Ruto Speaks After Police Officer Attached to His Office is Found Dead

Deputy President William Ruto has spoken after an Administrative Police attached to his Harambee Annex office was on Thursday February 20, 2020 found dead in his house in Imara Daima, Nairobi.

The police officer identified as Sergent Kipyegon Kenei, was on duty at the DP’s office the day former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa and two foreigners entered the Harambee Annex office to strike a Ksh 39 billion fake firearms deal.

DP Ruto through a tweet remarked that the death of the man was a huge loss.

He further noted that he knew Kenei on a professional level and was shocked by the turn of events.

The second in command called for the DCI to look into the matter to find justice for the slain officer.

“Deeply saddened by the death of Police Sergent Kipyegon Kenei who worked in my Harambee House Annex Office. Kenei was a disciplined young police officer. I urge the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding his death,” read the tweet.

The demise of the officer came after a manhunt had been launched by the DCI Kinoti led team.

The body of the deceased was found at his house in Imara Daima.

Police reports pointed out that the man committed suicide after he shot himself.

On Wednesday, DP Ruto had written to Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai over his safety.

According to Ruto, the breach of security at his office by Echesa and his men together with the foreigners, had put his life in danger.

The DP had also argued that Interior CS Fred Matiang’i should make investigations into the two foreigners.

Through his Chief of Staff, Ken Osinde, the DP wanted the visa issued to the Europeans reviewed.

It is reported that Matiang’i and the Head of Immigrations Service Alex Muteshi did not respond to the incident.

In addition, Ruto wanted the alleged outsiders to be detained until the case is determined by the relevant authorities.
