Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi has revealed the total number of Kenyans who viewed Mzee Daniel Moi’s body at Parliament Buildings.
According to Muturi, 72,500 Kenyans managed to view Mzee Moi’s body on Monday only.
A total of over 213,000 people were able to view the body by the end of public viewing on Monday evening.
The parliament on Monday extended the body viewing by one hour to allow more Kenyans view the body.
The number of members of the public arriving at Parliament to see Moi grew exponentially as the deadline approached.
24,863 people turned up to see the body at Parliament Buildings on Saturday while another 115,637 viewed the body on Sunday.
While public viewing of the body has officially come to a close, an official interdenominational prayer service awaits the former head of state at the Nyayo Stadium on Tuesday.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i has gazetted February 11th as a public holiday to mourn the late President Moi.
Sunday, President Kenyatta arrived at Nyayo Stadium to check on the progress of preparing the venue for the last public function before Moi’s burial.
Already, members of the press have camped at Moi’s Kabarak home in Nakuru County where he is set to be interred in an invite-only gravesite affair after a public ceremony at Kabarak University.
