President William Ruto has nominated Debra Mulongo Barasa to take over the Ministry of Health as Cabinet Secretary.

This comes few days after the Head of State dissolved his Cabinet following concerns raised through the Gen Z-led protests.

Debra Mulongo Barasa has since thanked the President for her appointment.

But who is Debra Mlongo Barasa?

Debra Mlongo Barasa is a medical doctor specializing internal medicine and infectious diseases.

She has over 15 years field experience as a senior medical officer with progression to an Internal Medicine Physician and technical advisor having worked in health institutions both national, referral, private and Community Based Organisations.

She has co-led the infectious disease pillar addressing outbreak-prone infections such as Respiratory infections (COVID-19, diphtheria), viral haemorrhagic fevers (Ebola, SVD), and contagious diarrhoea (cholera) among others.

She has a Master of Medicine, Internal Medicine from University of Nairobi, which she pursued between September 2012 – December 2017.

She is currently undertaking MSC Infectious Diseases at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

She has a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBCHB) from University of Nairobi (Oct 2001-Dec 2006).
