Harambee Stars utility player Manzur Okwaro has joined French Ligue 2 side Stade de Reims from Nairobi United.
Okwaro will join Reims on an initial six-month loan, after successfully passing his medical. However, the French club is obliged to make the move permanent at the end of the season, with a four-year contract already agreed upon.
The deal will be signed once the loan period concludes. Manzur Okwaro’s official unveiling is expected later in the day, marking a significant milestone in his career.
Okwaro was one of the outstanding players during Harambee Stars’ run to the quarter-final of the 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN), in which he played as a central midfielder.
He is reported to have chosen Reims following advice from Harambee Stars Head Coach Benni McCarthy, who shares an agency with him.
Okwaro will become the latest Kenyan to feature in French football, joining fellow countryman Joseph Okumu at the Reims setup.
Capable of operating across the backline and in midfield, Okwaro’s adaptability, athleticism, and tactical discipline made him an attractive prospect for the French club as they continue to reinforce their squad for the upcoming campaign.
The move represents another positive step for Kenyan football, with more local talents securing opportunities on the European stage. For Okwaro, the transfer offers a platform to test himself at a higher level while continuing his development in a competitive football environment.
All eyes now turn to Reims, where the Kenyan international is expected to be officially presented and begin training with his new teammates imminently.
