Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has called for a thorough and independent investigation into the fatal road accident that claimed the life of former Lugari MP and businessman Cyrus Jirongo.

In a statement shared via his official X account, Amisi cautioned against premature narratives before official police findings are released.

A wreckage of Cyrus Jirongo’s car.

Amisi’s statement comes hours after the driver of a Climax Coaches bus involved in the crash gave his account to the media. The MP argues that it was improper for any party to publicly explain the incident ahead of formal investigations and communication by law enforcement agencies.

“A proper, independent investigation must be carried out around the Karai accident. It is wrong for the driver of the Climax bus to come out first to speak before the police conduct investigations and officially communicate on the incident,” Amisi said.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway near Karai, involving Jirongo’s vehicle and a Climax Coaches bus. Jirongo died at the scene.

The bus driver, identified as Tiras Kamau Githinji, had earlier spoken to the media, claiming that Jirongo’s vehicle entered the highway from a petrol station without giving way, leading to a head-on collision.

His body has been moved to Lee Funeral Home for preservation ahead of burial plans.

Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has warned of serious consequences as a result of frequent Cabinet reshuffles made by President William Ruto.

Amisi, in a statement shared via his official X account on Thursday, March 27, 2025, said the rapid reshuffles being made by Ruto with no regard to efficiency and competence are a recipe for disaster.

According to him, the frequent changes in the government will create job insecurity among state officers, prompting them to steal as much as they can due to the uncertainty of their jobs.

“Frequent shuffling, reshuffling, and jumbling of the cabinet at a speed faster than lightning, with no regard to efficiency and competence, encourages insecurity among state officers. It creates the idea of taking what you can; the future is not guaranteed,” Amisi warned.

Amisi urges Ruto to rethink strategy

Amisi further urged President Ruto to rethink his strategy and its far-reaching implications for the statecraft of the nation.

“Mobutu of Zaire reshuffled his cabinet 60 times for the period he ruled; I don’t know if that is an example to borrow from. I urge the president to rethink his strategy and its far-reaching implications for the statecraft of the nation. Kenya needs a Renaissance!” Amisi stated.

Ruto reshuffles Cabinet

His remarks come a day after Ruto reshuffled his cabinet in a move that saw Justin Muturi get sacked as public service cabinet secretary.

Ruto nominated Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku to replace Muturi.

Hanna Cheptumo has also been nominated as Gender, Culture, Arts, and Heritage CS, a position Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has been holding in an acting capacity.

“THE TWO nominees are expected to bring to Cabinet not only the knowledge and experience acquired over the course of their illustrious careers but, above all, their wisdom accumulated from their inspiring and diverse life journeys,” a communique from the head of public service, Felix Koskei, issued on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, read.

The reshuffle has also affected CS Aden Duale, who has been moved from the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry to the Ministry of Health.

CS Deborah Barasa Mulongo has been moved to the Ministry of Environment.

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has questioned President William Ruto’s frequent meetings with leaders from the Western Kenya region.

Taking to his official X account on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, Amisi argued that the meetings have never resulted in any single project initiated in the region.

“I have lost count of the number of times the president has had meetings with Luhya MPs, but what I am yet to count is any single project initiated in Western courtesy of these meetings,” Amisi stated.

Saboti MP Caleb Amisi.

His sentiments come just moments after Ruto hosted a section of leaders from the Western region, with Amisi pointing out that he was not invited for the most recent State House meeting.

Lack of development

The lawmaker further stated that the Western region lags behind in terms of development despite the support from leaders in government, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

“Of course, they avoided inviting me for reasons best known to them, but isn’t it about time we now see these projects? Equalisation of funds to all regions of the country is key for the cohesiveness of a nation. Western is still lagging behind in development despite enormous support from our brothers in government,” he added.

President Ruto on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, hosted Western Kenyan leaders at State House. Cabinet Secretaries from the region, Deborah Barasa (Health), and Wycliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives and MSMEs) also joined the meeting.

Busia governor Paul Otuoma, his Kakamega counterpart Fernandes Barasa and Bungoma’s Kenneth Lusaka also attended the meeting.

Ruto on meeting with Western leaders

Ruto, in a statement shared via social media, said that such meetings are aimed at accelerating the implementation of the government’s national development agenda, ensuring no region is left behind.

According to Ruto, the meeting with luhya leaders focused on strengthening agricultural value chains, particularly increasing fertiliser uptake to boost food production and reviving the sugar and coffee sectors in the region.

“We are engaging leaders from across the country to accelerate the implementation of our national development agenda, ensuring no region is left behind. Today at @StateHouseKenya Nairobi, held consultations with leaders from Western Kenya to assess progress on key priority projects. These include strengthening agricultural value chains, particularly increasing fertiliser uptake to boost food production and reviving the sugar and coffee sectors in the region,” Ruto stated.

“We also discussed urgent infrastructure needs, including roads, power connections and ongoing fresh produce markets. Other areas of focus were universal health coverage and projects that will improve access to clean water. Prime Cabinet Secretary @MusaliaMudavadi, National Assembly Speaker @HonWetangula, Cabinet Secretaries @DrOparanya (Cooperatives and MSMEs) and @DeboraBarasa (Health), as well as Governors @BarasaFernandes (Kakamega), @SpeakerKLusaka (Bungoma) and Paul Otuoma (Busia), and members of Parliament were present.”
