Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa was on Saturday rushed to Karen Hospital in critical condition.

Echesa who was being detained at Muthaiga Police Station since Thursday was taken to hospital due to a reported deterioration in his pneumonia and high cholesterol levels.

According to his lawyers Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta, Echesa’s condition could have led to further health complications had it not addressed in time.

“My client’s health deteriorated hence his admission to the hospital,” Omari told the media.

Echesa had been held at Muthaiga police cells since Thursday night, pending arraignment on Tuesday over allegations of extortion and staged abduction.

Police said they will guard him at the hospital ahead of his arraignment.

Echesa through his lawyers had asked the police to release him from custody to allow him seek medical attention.

His lawyers are also want him to be granted cash bail to “continue with his journey towards full recovery.”

Echesa who is also the chairperson of the Kenya Water Towers Agency, was arrested and initially taken to Muthaiga Police Station.

According to Danstan Omari, his continued detention would have made his health deteriorate adding that any form of justice related to his arrest cannot possibly take precedence over his health.

Echesa was arrested over claims of extorting money from Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa.

Prior to his arrest, videos of him pleading for mercy after allegedly being abducted had gone viral.

In the videos, Echesa is heard asking his alleged abductors to tell governor Barasa to forgive him. He is also heard begging his alleged abductors not to kill him as his children would suffer.

However, a section of Kenyans have argued that the abduction seems to have been stage-managed as a part of ways to extort governor Fernandes Barasa.

Another video of Echesa conversing with an unknown man while handcuffed in a car boot also went viral.

This is not a first controversy to hit the former sports CS, who has previously been accused of photoshopping former Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala in what looks to have been the same extortion ring.

Moments after a brief interrogation, detectives revved to a spot near the Thika Road Mall in Roysambu, where the 4th suspect – Martin Nderi Ng’ang’a was arrested.

He led the detectives to his rented house still in Roysambu, where a search therein saw the rocovery of Sh9.1 million in cash.

Having booked the four suspects, the sleuths proceeded to a forest near Gataka Market in Karen, where the cash box used in transporting the stolen money was recovered.

Detectives believe that the forest was the meet up point for the suspects, where the loot was shared before each one of them risked his way from the long arm of the law.

Sometime in December 2021, a woman walked into KCB Changamwe Branch to get a loan. The lady who had been a client of the bank, sought the services of one of the senior loans officers named Hannington Muthoka.

While in the process of applying for the loan, Hannington in scheme of things developed a relationship with the woman and they started being very close. Closer than close. So Hannington started abusing the relationship because he had all the client private data and with the relationship, he would access the client’s account whenever he wishes.

He started, not only taking money from the lady’s account without her permission, but also borrowing more using her credentials. In fact, Hannington managed to borrow money and bought a car using the lady’s credentials. The car is one among the Uber vehicles he operates in Mombasa.

The lady started getting into the financial red as the man even depleted more than Ksh 600,000 from her account. The lady complained and asked friends to advice the man to refund her money but the man refused and decided to plot an elimination.

So the man planned how to eliminate the woman as he realised that he was going to lose his job at KCB. So he bought a knife and planned a murder while pretending that he wanted mediation between them. So when the woman insisted on getting her money back, he decided to stab her several times hoping to choke life out of her. But members of the public who witnessed the commotion teamed up and gave chase making him leave the knife at the back of the lady.

After the attempted murder, the woman was rushed to Aga Khan hospital where she is in the ICU. The case which happened within the jurisdiction of Port Reitz Police Station and was reported there, was mysterious called by OCS Changamwe who is a bossom friend and partner-in-crime of Hannington Muthoka. Hannington was booked at Changamwe but didn’t look as suspect but a man who could do anything within the station.

The man was mysteriously released this morning by OCS Changamwe on police bond. It has also been revealed that the man was charged with general assault and not attempted murder.

While the woman fights for her life, the man is free and both the OCS CHangamwe and KCB Changamwe Branch Manager are all trying to ensure that justice is denied.

Remember that Hannington Muthoka stopped stabbing the woman repeatedly when the knife broke. He was out to kill the lady. Police say there are NO WITNESSES. There are many witnesses.

The real Mathe wa Ngara whose official name is Nancy Indoverie Kizungu, a popular bhang seller in Ngara, Starehe Sub-County in Nairobi is on the run.

This is after the police launched manhunt for her moments after arresting her accomplice Teresia Wanjiru on Tuesday August 15.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) arrested Wanjiru alongside three minors.

The arrest came after Anti-Narcotics Unit and the Trans National Organised Crime Unit raided her place in the slums of Karuia which are sandwiched between Ngara and Parklands.

A consignment of cannabis sativa and Sh13.4 Million in cash was recovered during the raid.

Wanjiru allegedly works for Nancy Indoverie alias Mathee, who is said to be the main bhang distributor with associates from Isebania, Busia, and Moyale where the products come from.

Mathe wa Ngara is said to have a powerful influence that has seen her be in business without any police interference.

Reports indicate that she could use her connections to influence the transfer of police officers within Parklands, Central, Ngara, and Kamukunji Police Stations as well as influence the transfer of friendly and cooperative officers to desired stations.

In June 2022, Mathe was arrested with her associates and arraigned at Kahawa Law Courts where she was fined Sh525,000 before being released.

Flamboyant Coast-based televangelist Pastor Ezekiel Odero has been grilled by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) as investigations into the mysterious deaths related to cultic worship at the Coast deepen.

Multiple reports indicate that Pastor Ezekiel recorded a statement with Kilifi DCI on Tuesday, April 25 over his doctrine and church operations.

He operates the New Life Church based in Malindi, Kilifi County.

It is alleged that a morgue located near Pastor Ezekiel’s church has been collecting dead bodies from the church.

A source who spoke to one of the leading local dailies revealed that the DCI officers also visited Milele Funeral Home and grilled the CEO Mr. Johnson Amani Kea and his staff on the number of dead bodies the morgue collected from Pastor Ezekiel’s church.

Last week, reports emerged that the morgue had filed a complaint with the police against Pastor Ezekiel on claims that he had killed its business by performing rituals and driving away customers on allegations that the funeral home had been built at a blackspot with an aim of getting more people killed in accidents for the business to boom.

However, the funeral home’s CEO has denied the allegations, noting that they have not filed any complain with the police.

“We did not file a complaint. The police are in the process of recording statements on how many bodies we have handled so far from pastor Ezekiel’s church,” Mr Amani was quoted by the local daily.

On Tuesday, April 25, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki confirmed that police officers were investigating other flamboyant preachers whose teachings appeared contrary to what the Law advocates for.

Investigations into the life and doctrines of Pastor Ezekiel follows the Shakahola massacre, in which over 90 bodies were exhumed and over 30 people were rescued while starving themselves to death.

Controversial Pastor, Paul Mackenzie was arrested, with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji recommending the following charges; terrorism, genocide, radicalisation and aiding individuals to kill themselves.

The owner of a building that collapsed in Ruaka last week was Monday arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Jennifer Kamau aged 59 years was arrested at 2am as she tried to flee to Texas, USA.

DCI boss Amin Mohamed Ibrahim in a statement on Monday afternoon said DCI detectives based at JKIA pounced on Mrs. Kamau before she boarded a flight destined for Texas, in the United States of America.

The woman was however taken ill after the arrest and was rushed to a city hospital by DCI officers, where she is receiving treatment as she awaits court arraignment.

Two people lost their lives on Thursday last week after a six-storey building belonging to the woman collapsed on an adjacent building, while tenants were asleep at around 3am.

Cases of building collapsing in Kiambu County have been on the rise in the recent past.

On Monday morning, another building in Ruiru, Kiambu County collapsed hours after over 100 households were evacuated.

Authorities have since called on delevelopers to follow due process while putting up such structures.

A man stabbed his girlfriend four times before turning the killer knife on himself on Tuesday night in Juja, Kiambu County.

Witnesses told DCI detectives that Daniel Mwangi Wairimu, 39, had earlier visited his girlfriend Jane Njogu at her Mpesa shop within Juja shopping centre, where the two clashed over an unestablished matter.

The tiff went on until the lady who is believed to be in her early 30s closed up her business, then the two proceeded to the lady’s house at Palyjote Apartments in Juja.

Minutes past 10pm, piercing wails of a woman had however, hurled the neighbourhood into befuddlement. Mwangi drove three knife stabs into his girlfriend’s back, and a fourth one through her belly.

Thunderstruck neighbours who thronged the scene found her body in a pool of blood, and were too late to save her life.

After the deadly attack, Mwangi reportedly turned the knife on himself, driving it through his neck. In an attempt to save him, members of the public rushed him to hospital but he succumbed to profuse bleeding on the way.

The cause of the appalling deaths of Daniel Mwangi and Jane Njogu is currently being investigated by detectives based in Juja. Meanwhile, the bodies have been moved to Thika General Kago Funeral Home awaiting autopsy.

Detectives from Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Wednesday arrested the main suspect in the Westlands mistery evictions.

Zachary Baraza, a Bungoma County politician who vied for the Bungoma gubernatorial seat in the August 2022 general elections was presented before court as detectives sought to detain him for 14 days.

Zachary Baraza. Photo/Courtesy

The politician who runs an auctioneering firm dubbed Siuma Auctioneers was linked to the violent eviction of a family in Westlands, Nairobi.

He is currently being detained at Muthaiga Police Station after the court granted the detectives their request pending further investigations into the case..

The complainant Niraj Shah said that Baraza led 25 people to their family home and destroyed the establishments.

The DCI said they have since established that buildings on the parcel of land were extensively vandalised and losses incurred amounted to Sh70 million.

The court heard that since Baraza was arrested, the household goods and other personal effects of the complainant are yet to be recovered.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that those household goods and personal effects may have been sold on the instructions of Baraza,” Sergeant Eric Onyango said.

The police said Baraza should remain in custody as they are yet to record statements from witnesses and a comprehensive valuation report by a registered property valuer to determine the actual loss incurred by family.

Zachary Baraza. Photo.Courtesy

According to Niraj Shah and his wife Avani Shah, they are the legal occupants since their lease to the land, which was allegedly bought by a private company in 2010, expires in 2048.

Ksh.80 million worth property demolished

The couple has condemned the demolition of their Ksh.80 million worth property by a mob allegedly deployed by a private developer.

For over 40 years, the Shah’s have called the parcel of land their home but the Ksh.80 million property now looks nothing close to its former self.

Niraj said the investor in question demolished the house without following police protocol to do so.

“The right procedure is for them to go to the police, get assistance and come with the police. There is a procedure to follow if you have to evict someone but none of them were followed,” said Niraj.

Lariak Properties

Avani said Baraza showed her a document purporting that a private company named ‘Lariak Properties’ had bought the land from Metro pharmaceuticals in 2010.

The Shah’s however maintain that they are the legal occupants since their lease to the land is still valid, adding that they are in possession of a court order dated November 1, 2022, which directs that the plaintiff be restrained from trespassing or interfering with the couple’s possession of the land.

The couple claims that the eviction was executed without following due process and their efforts to seek help from authorities including the area police hit a deadlock.

A search at the registrar of companies shows that Lariak properties was registered in 2002 and has four directors namely Nathaniel Kipkemboi Barmasai, Samuel K. Chepkwony, John Kamaiyoa Rotich and Joel Kiplangat who sources say are connected to a high profile person.

The recently disbanded Special Services Unit (SSU) in the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) will be investigated, President William Ruto has said.

Speaking Thursday afternoon during the Mashujaa Day fete held at Uhuru Gardens, President Ruto said that he had directed that immediate measures be undertaken to disband the unit.

The head of state had recently linked the DCI team to the extra-judicial killings that have been witnessed in the recent past.

The team was disbanded through an order issued by the acting Inspector General of Police Noor Gabow, with its members being recalled to the DCI headquarters.

President Ruto now says that investigations must commence so that those found culpable are held accountable.

“I have directed that immediate measures be undertaken to disband the Special Services Unit in the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and with urgency investigations must commence so that those found culpable are held accountable,” President Ruto said.

The members of the DCI SSU team were relied on to respond to any murder incident involving violent criminals on the run or unsolved issues and even terrorism.

It was a revamped team from an earlier one that was referred to as Special Crimes Prevention Unit (SCPU), which was reorganized in 2019 by former DCI George Kinoti.

Most officers now serving in the disbanded unit had served in SCPU and the defunct Flying Squad for years.

They were mainly involved in quelling the Mungiki menace from 2007 until 2019 when they were reorganized.

In this period, up to 300 people believed to have been members of the banned group disappeared or died mysteriously in shootings or were found dead on roads and thickets.

And the move to disband SSU did not come as a surprise to many. They anticipated it after the new government took over.

Nairobi Senator and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate for the Nairobi gubernatorial race Johnson Sakaja has allegedly been arrested.

Reports had indicated that Sakaja was arrested on Friday June 17, 2022 at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) headquarters along Kiambu Road.

HNIB Breaking: @SakajaJohnson Arrested at DCI HQ
— Dennis Itumbi, HSC (@OleItumbi) June 17, 2022

However, DCI in a statement denied arresting Sakaja. Instead, the George Kinoti-led body clarified that Sakaja had presented himself at the headquarters when he had not been summoned.

According to DCI, Sakaja presented himself after reports emerged in the media that he would be arrested any time.

He was however, allowed to leave the DCI Headquarters without the detectives taking any action against him.

Sakaja was facing arrest over forgery claims.

Earlier on, Nation newspaper had reported that Sakaja could be arrested any time for allegedly forging his academic papers.

The local daily had quoted DCI boss George Kinoti as having said that he will not allow frauds to be handed over the great city of Nairobi to run.

Kinoti had also linked Sakaja to an international crime syndicate.

Sakaja had presented an academic degree from Team University in Uganda, which has been a talk of the internet for sometime now as it was flagged to be fake.

Deputy President William Ruto has, however, defended Sakaja and said the issues surrounding his academic qualifications are nothing but a pure political witchhunt.

Ruto indicated that their political opponents have sensed defeat and have now resorted to intimidations and blackmail, which will not work.

Sakaja and Ruto allies have maintained that he will be on the ballot on August 9.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based in Juja, Kiambu County, are hunting down three suspects who killed a 23-year-old university student in cold blood on Monday night.

The killers are said to have escaped with the victim’s mobile phone and other valuables.

DCI boss George Kinoti in statement on Tuesday evening said Joel Juma, a fourth year Industrial Chemistry student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), was stabbed two times on the chest by one of the thugs before they fled to darkness in the 2am incident.

According to Juma’s girlfriend who is a Law student at the Mt Kenya University, Parklands Campus, she had escorted her boyfriend to get some revision materials from his classmates a few blocks away, when the blood thirst gang accosted them.

The girlfriend had gone to visit his lover last evening at around 6pm and found him studying for his examinations. She prepared a meal that they shared together before they retired to bed.

However, Juma later woke up and embarked on his books but at 2am, he asked her to escort him to where a classmate lived a few blocks away, to get some reference material that he needed before morning.

It is while on their way when the thugs attacked them near hotel Lilies, demanding for money and mobile phones.

Two of them descended on Juma with blows and kicks before stabbing him twice on the left side of his chest, leaving him lying on the ground in a pool of blood.

The third assailant manhandled the lady who hadn’t carried any valuable and luckily, left her unscathed. Local guards who heard the commotion rushed to the scene and together with the heavily shaken girlfriend, helped Juma to a local dispensary where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Detectives have since established that pockets of a notorious gang, which escaped the ongoing operation to rid Kayole and Dandora of criminals, has found a safe haven in Gachororo, where they are regrouping with the aim of establishing a fiefdom.

Consequently, a major undercover operation to completely annihilate the gang has been launched in the area. Detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) and the Special Service Unit (SSU) have been dispatched conduct the operation.

A court in Meru has sentenced a couple accused of trafficking drugs to life imprisonment.

While issuing the sentence on Wednesday September 30, 2021, Senior Principal Magistrate Thomas Muraguri said the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that the two were guilty.

The prosecution in the above case was being led by James Kinyua and Antony Musyoka.

The couple, James Muthiora and his wife Fridah Karimi were accused of peddling narcotics worth Kshs. 3.5 million.

They were accused alongside Timothy Kinoti Kariaci, Joseph Ekeno Ekeno and Jacob Githae Mukunyu.

They were arrested at the couple’s home during a raid by then DCIO James Githinji and then county commissioner Wilfred Nyagwanga.

On November 1, 2018, the four denied the three charges including trafficking 103kg of bhang worth Sh3,090,000 at Kooje Estate in North Imenti.

the wife Fridah Karimi will spend the rest of their days in prison after a court in Meru handed them life sentences.
Kudos to our teams led by the then DCIO Meru Mr. James Githinji.
The couple was sentenced to life imprisonment for being in possession of utensils used in connection with the preparation of narcotic drugs contrary to Section 5 and Psychotropic Substances Control Act meaning the fine runs concurrently with the life sentence.

Their co-accused escaped the sentence for what the court termed as lack of evidence.

The defence team has, however, vowed to make an appeal at the High Court.

A standard eight dropout in Rongo sub-county is in trouble after attacking his former headteacher when he was asked to return the books he lost.

The police have since then launched manhunt for the suspect who escaped after the act.

According to Rongo Sub-County Commander Mr. Peter Okiring, the suspect had gone to do clearance at his former school Arundo Primary School when the headteacher asked him to return lost stationery.

Sources say that the suspect later went to attack the teacher while he was in his office with a crude weapon.

At the time of the attack, the other teachers were busy with exams in various classrooms and they later found the school head unconscious where they took him to the hospital.

Mr. Kepher Onsongo was first rushed to Nyamarambe health center before being referred to Nyangena Hospital in Kisii Sub-county for special treatment.

After the incident, irate villagers combed the area in search of the learner who took off on a motorcycle. The deputy headteacher filed a report at Kamagambo divisional headquarters.

A resident identified as Linus Obudho said that the learner dropped out of school and is a boda boda operator at Nyamarambe trading center in South Mugirango Sub-county.

Villagers added that the suspect had a problem in school and was feared by fellow learners.

The officials of KNUT Rongo Sub-County group said that premiliminary investigations conducted by their members found out that the culprit had a problem in school and was always alone.

He joined the school after being expelled from another school.

The police have urged anyone with information about his hideouts to give it to them.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have seized consignment concealing over Sh60 million in fake US dollar currency destined for Muscat in Oman.

This is from a money laundering syndicate that has been under investigation.

According to a statement issued by DCI on Friday September 10, 2021, the 460 US dollar notes in denominations of 100 seized on Thursday evening were packaged in 12 bundles, which were declared as marketing flyers for a non-existing African Global Food Supplies.

Acting on a report from Express Kenya security manager, police rushed to the transport logistics facility located at Lusaka Rd within Industrial Area, seizing the consignment bound to Muscat International Hotel in Oman.

Investigations by our detectives has so far established that the consignor, one Belmont Joseph, is a member of a larger suspected criminal syndicate operating from Kajiado’s Ngong area.

Meanwhile, Interpol’s intervention has been sought to facilitate the arrest of the Oman-based consignee – Hamood Abdullah Hamood – as manhunt for the local suspect and his gang intensifies.

Police have narrated how a 17-year-old boy was on Thursday night killed by a bullet fired by Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers in Nairobi’s Huruma slums.

Haila Asanake died after being hit by a stray bullet fired by DCI detectives.

Police now say that the detectives were repulsing hostility from residents.

Asanake’s family says the teenager was standing on a balcony at their Kiamaiko home at around 8pm, when the bullet fatally struck him.

Police now say DCI detectives attached to Pangani post had stopped a suspicious motor vehicle, and when the driver of the car alighted, he “started a scuffle with the detectives”.

The resultant melee, police say, attracted other members of the public, who reacted by stoning the detectives.

“This prompted officers to shoot in the air,” says a police report filed at the Huruma Police Station under the OB Number 70/09/09/2021.

Asanake, who was allegedly killed by the fired bullet, died on arrival at the Jumuia Hospital, where his body is currently preserved awaiting postmortem.

The deceased’s uncle, Branu Boku Cheme, said the teenager was a law-abiding boy, who occasionally earned money from working as a porter.
