Embattled ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna has been removed from the influential Senate Energy Committee in a move that is likely to fuel speculation about deepening divisions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

The Nairobi Senator was replaced by Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang’ in a committee reshuffle announced on Wednesday, effectively ending Sifuna’s membership in the powerful oversight team chaired by ODM leader Oburu Oginga.

The development comes amid an increasingly public fallout between Sifuna and Oburu over the direction of ODM and the party’s working relationship with President William Ruto’s administration.

Sifuna’s removal is particularly significant because he has been one of the most outspoken members of the Senate Energy Committee, often taking tough positions on controversial national issues. He was among lawmakers who aggressively scrutinized the proposed Adani Group deal involving the expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport before the government eventually terminated the project.

In the latest committee changes, Garissa Senator Abdul Haji was nominated to the Energy Committee, replacing nominated Senator Beatrice Ogolla. Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu was also moved to the Senate Information, Communication and Technology Committee, replacing Ogolla.

Ogolla, in turn, was appointed to the Senate Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Committee, taking over from Kajwang’.

Unlike the other senators affected by the reshuffle, Sifuna was not reassigned to a new committee. The decision leaves him serving in only two Senate committees: the County Public Accounts Committee chaired by Moses Kajwang’ and the National Security, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee chaired by Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo.

Announcing the changes in the Senate, Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot said the reshuffle was approved following recommendations by the Senate Business Committee and in accordance with Senate Standing Orders.

The committee changes are expected to intensify debate within ODM, where ideological and political differences have become increasingly visible.

Sifuna is widely associated with the party’s Linda Mwananchi faction, which has maintained a critical stance toward the broad-based arrangement between ODM and Kenya Kwanza. On the other hand, Oburu is viewed as a leading figure in the Linda Ground camp, which supports continued engagement with President Ruto’s government.

The tensions between the two leaders have played out publicly in recent months. Earlier this year, Sifuna openly opposed serving under Oburu’s leadership after the veteran politician assumed a more prominent role within ODM following Raila Odinga’s departure from the party leadership position.

In one of his sharpest attacks, Sifuna accused sections of the ODM leadership of mediocrity and demanded internal party elections.

“I refuse to be the SG of mediocrity. I refuse to be the SG of Oburu Oginga. These characters do not deserve me. Let them ask for a proper NDC where we shall present candidates for all the party positions,” Sifuna declared.

With ODM increasingly divided over its relationship with President Ruto and the future direction of the party, Sifuna’s removal from the Energy Committee is likely to be viewed by many observers as more than a routine Senate reshuffle.

The move now raises fresh questions about Sifuna’s standing within ODM and whether the battle for control of the party is entering a new and more confrontational phase.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has delivered a blunt and defiant message to newly ratified ODM Party Leader Oburu Oginga, dramatically escalating tensions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) following a day of rival conventions in Nairobi.

Speaking amid the fallout of parallel National Delegates Conventions (NDCs) held by competing factions, Sifuna dismissed the legitimacy of Oburu’s leadership and firmly ruled out serving under him.

“Mnataka kuniambia naweza kuwa Katibu Mkuu wa ODM miaka nane and then I become the SG of mediocrity? Oburu tafuta SG wako. Mimi siwezi kuwa SG wa Oburu,” Sifuna declared.

The sharp remarks came after two rival ODM gatherings exposed the depth of divisions within the party.

One faction, aligned with Oburu, held an official Special Delegates Convention at Jamhuri Showground, where he was ratified as party leader.

Meanwhile, the rival “Linda Mwananchi” faction associated with Sifuna convened a parallel meeting dubbed the “People’s NDC” at Ufungamano House, though the event faced a heavy police blockade, but the meeting went on after the attendants defied the police.

The standoff underscored a party increasingly split between those backing the current leadership direction and those pushing for an alternative path.

By branding the new arrangement as “mediocrity,” the senator signaled a hardening stance that could further complicate reconciliation efforts within the party.

His message also puts into question the cohesion of ODM’s top leadership, with the possibility of a prolonged internal standoff now looming large.

Although the Oburu-led faction ratified the leadership positions of party leader, deputy party leaders, and national chairperson, the SG position was not touched.

At the heart of the dispute is a broader ideological divide over ODM’s political positioning, especially its cooperation with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) under the broad-based government framework.

The Sifuna-led faction has consistently opposed the arrangement, arguing that it dilutes the party’s role as a watchdog and undermines its support base.

In contrast, the Oburu-aligned wing has backed the cooperation, framing it as a strategic move in Kenya’s evolving political landscape.

There was tension at Ufungamano House on Friday, March 27, 2026, after a contingent of police officers stormed the premises as Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna took to the podium to speak.

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, who was the MC of the event, had just invited Sifuna to the stage before the police that had been stationed outside Ufungamano House stormed the compound, causing a scene.

Sifuna urged the police to let them proceed with the meeting. Moments after, Siaya Governor James Orengo took to the podium to condemn the incident, urging the police to keep off.

“Enough is enough…..I want to tell the police that any action of assault on any one of us will follow you… We are a peaceful people. This meeting is properly convened,” Orengo said.

However, hundreds of the delegates invited to the meeting are still blocked, as the police have sealed off the venue and locked the gate.

Osotsi had earlier indicated that the police stormed Ufungamano House at night and chased those who were arranging the venue.

Earlier, tension gripped Nairobi’s political scene after a heavy police presence was deployed at Ufungamano House, effectively blocking access to the planned ODM parallel National Delegates Convention (NDC) organized by Sifuna.

Security officers mounted roadblocks and restricted entry to the venue in what appeared to be a deliberate move to frustrate the meeting dubbed the “People’s NDC”.

The blocked gathering had been convened by the “Linda Mwananchi” faction, a rebel wing within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), which has been at odds with the party’s mainstream leadership.

The faction is protesting the ouster of Sifuna as ODM Secretary General and opposing the party’s cooperation with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) under the broad-based government arrangement.

Their parallel NDC was meant to counter the official National Special Delegates Convention (NSDC) being held at the Jamhuri Showground, led by the rival “Linda Ground” faction associated with Oburu Odinga.

Despite the police blockade, Jubilee Party Deputy Organising Secretary Pauline Njoroge, a key ally of the Linda Mwananchi team, insisted the group would push ahead with its plans.

“Hata mfunge njia zote, bado tunakuja!” she declared in a post shared via her official X account.

In a move that has raised concerns over press freedom, journalists attempting to cover the event were also denied entry to Ufungamano House, with police maintaining tight control over the premises.

The developments set the stage for a dramatic political showdown, with two rival conventions, one sanctioned and one blocked, symbolizing the deep fractures within one of Kenya’s largest political parties.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has touted the early success of the Linda Mwananchi platform, revealing that the initiative has attracted nearly 25,000 subscribers just days after its launch.

In a social media update on Saturday, March 21, 2026, Sifuna described the numbers as impressive but urged supporters to view them within a broader political context.

“We closed the week at just under 25k… This is impressive, lakini perspective ni muhimu. 25k will get you elected MCA in almost all the wards in Kenya, MP in a few constituencies, and Senator in Lamu and Isiolo counties, going by 2022 data. Mkae mkijua,” he said.

The Linda Mwananchi platform, which has been linked to a reformist wing within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), is positioning itself as a grassroots-driven movement aimed at mobilizing citizen participation and political accountability.

Sifuna’s remarks suggest that the initiative is not merely an online campaign tool, but a potential political force capable of influencing electoral outcomes if the numbers translate into active voter support.

On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, Sifuna announced that the Linda Mwananchi website, which had been temporarily pulled down after suspicious cyber attacks, had now been restored and urged his supporters to continue enrolling online.

“Friday 27th March, Nairobi! Sunday 29th March tupatane Mombasa. Meanwhile, kama wewe ni Sifuna wa Narok ingia hapo http://lindamwananchi.com uhesabike!” he wrote on X.

Sifuna had earlier announced the temporary shutdown of the Linda Mwananchi website just a day after its launch.

He said the website, which went live on Friday, March 13, attracted thousands of sign-ups within hours, reflecting strong public enthusiasm for the initiative. However, the platform also experienced numerous malicious attacks, forcing the team behind the project to temporarily take it offline.

Sifuna said the shutdown would allow developers to address technical issues, strengthen security, and incorporate the many suggestions submitted by users who interacted with the site during its first day online.

Despite the challenges, the lawmaker welcomed the strong public response, saying it demonstrated the level of interest Kenyans have in the platform’s objectives. He thanked supporters for signing up and providing feedback aimed at improving the site.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has announced the temporary shutdown of the Linda Mwananchi website just a day after its launch.

In a statement shared through his official X account on Saturday, March 14, the embattled Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) secretary general cited a surge in cyber attacks and the need to improve the platform following overwhelming public interest.

Sifuna said the website, which went live on Friday, March 13, attracted thousands of sign-ups within hours, reflecting strong public enthusiasm for the initiative. However, the platform also experienced numerous malicious attacks, forcing the team behind the project to temporarily take it offline.

Sifuna noted that the shutdown will allow developers to address technical issues, strengthen security, and incorporate the many suggestions submitted by users who interacted with the site during its first day online.

Despite the challenges, the lawmaker welcomed the strong public response, saying it demonstrated the level of interest Kenyans have in the platform’s objectives. He thanked supporters for signing up and providing feedback aimed at improving the site.

Sifuna appealed for patience as the technical team works to resolve the issues, assuring users that the platform will return stronger after the necessary upgrades.

“Expectedly there were thousands of malicious attacks on the website as well as hundreds of positive feedback on how we can improve. We have taken the site offline to address the issues and incorporate your ideas. We ask for your patience kidogo tu. Have a good weekend,” Sifuna wrote on X.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Senator Oburu Oginga, on Wednesday, January 7, 2025, held a high-level meeting with the party’s Secretary General, Senator Edwin Sifuna, in a move seen as an attempt to steady the party amid growing internal tensions.

In a brief statement shared via X, ODM confirmed that Sifuna paid a courtesy call on Oburu at his Nairobi office, with discussions centring on party unity, cohesion, and the future growth of the movement.

“Secretary General Sen. Edwin Sifuna this morning called on Party Leader Sen. Oburu Oginga at his office in Nairobi. Their meeting centred on the unity and the growth of the party,” the party said.

Attempts to expel Sifuna

The meeting comes just a day after Migori Senator Eddy Oketch stepped back from a controversial motion seeking to de-whip and expel Sifuna from the ODM party, opting instead for alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

In a letter dated January 6, 2026, Aguko, Osman & Company Advocates, acting on behalf of Senator Oketch, announced the withdrawal of a motion that had been filed just a day earlier on January 5.

The lawmaker said the decision followed consultations with the party leader and Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Oginga.

The advocates cited the legacy of the party’s founding leader, the late Raila Odinga, as instrumental in the change of approach.

“Following wide consultations with the Party Leader, Senator Dr Oburu Oginga and with utmost respect to the spirit of the founding Party Leader the late Raila Amollo Odinga, who embraced dialogue even with his fiercest enemies as the most preferred method of dispute resolution, we have received further instructions from our client,” the letter stated.

Despite withdrawing the motion, the letter maintained that there were legitimate concerns about Nairobi Senator Sifuna’s conduct.

“Being cognizant of the breaches as outlined in our aforementioned letter and the offensive remarks made by Hon. Senator Edwin W. Sifuna both against the Party and its members,” the advocates wrote, Senator Oketch had been “persuaded to withdraw the Motion Letter dated January 5, 2026.”

Instead of pursuing expulsion, the party will now invoke Article 16(1)(g) of the ODM Constitution, which empowers the party leader to facilitate amicable dispute resolution through Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has marked the late Raila Odinga’s birthday with a powerful tribute that doubles as a sharp warning to Kenya’s political class, accusing the current leadership of betraying the ideals Baba stood for and presiding over a dangerous drift toward impunity and intolerance.

In a lengthy and reflective statement shared on Wednesday, Sifuna said that nearly three months after Raila’s death, the sense of loss remains as raw as ever for millions of Kenyans who drew inspiration, courage, and political direction from the veteran opposition leader.

“Many of us are no closer to overcoming this loss than we were two months ago,” Sifuna wrote, noting that Raila’s towering national stature means the country may never fully stop mourning him.

As Kenyans marked what would have been Raila Odinga’s birthday, Sifuna said the day offered a moment not only for remembrance, but also for deep reflection on the state of the nation since Baba’s passing.

While celebrating Raila’s life as one defined by courage, sacrifice, and an uncompromising commitment to freedom and justice, the Nairobi Senator lamented what he described as a growing culture of impunity, dictatorship, and intolerance that has emerged in the post-Raila political landscape.

“Over the past two months, the ideals and principles by which Raila lived and conducted his politics have been violated,” Sifuna said, warning of a conspiracy of silence in the face of threats to multiparty democracy.

He described Raila as Kenya’s foremost second liberation icon and the undisputed father of multiparty democracy and the 2010 Constitution, reforms that gave birth to devolution and were meant to curb excessive state power while ensuring equitable sharing of national resources.

Sifuna argued that multiparty democracy was intended to foster free expression, ideological diversity, and strong, independent political parties—values he said Raila jealously guarded to the very end.

“It is no wonder Baba insisted on respect for multiparty democracy and the integrity of political parties being anchored in the MoU he signed with President William Ruto,” he said.

According to Sifuna, Raila’s death has created an opening for regression, shrinking democratic space, and the erosion of political tolerance—developments he said Raila would have firmly resisted.

“The country misses the wisdom and foresight of Baba more than ever,” he added.

Despite the challenges, Sifuna called on leaders mentored by Raila to remain steadfast and to spearhead a new political renaissance rooted in the Constitution’s values of sovereignty of the people, equality, democracy, social justice, and the rule of law.

“We do not have the luxury of rest, nor do we possess any fear in pursuit of Raila’s ideals,” Sifuna declared, portraying the late ODM leader as a man who consistently chose principle over convenience and resistance over silence, even at great personal cost.

He concluded by reaffirming his personal and political commitment to staying the course Raila charted, saying that honoring Baba’s memory requires action, courage, and unwavering fidelity to the values he lived and died for.

“On his birthday, we renew our dedication to the principles he stood for,” Sifuna said. “Happy birthday Baba.”

National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed has fired back at Nairobi Senator and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna after he accused him of squandering the funds meant for the late Raila Odinga’s poll agents during the 2022 General Elections.

In a press statement shared via his official X account on Saturday, January 3, 2026, Junet acknowledged that, indeed, retired President Uhuru Kenyatta had released the funds meant for the agents but denied being the custodian of the money.

He accused former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his younger brother Muhoho Kenyatta of taking control of funds meant for Raila Odinga’s election agents and failing to deploy or pay the agents across key regions.

According to Junet, Muhoho Kenyatta received the funds and then appointed Peter Mburu to take charge of the recruitment and payment of agents.

“I wish to respond to Senator Edwin Sifuna, the ODM Secretary General who moonlights for former President Uhuru Kenyatta within our party and who has challenged me to explain why agents in the 2022 General Election were neither paid nor present at their designated polling stations,” Junet stated.

“The answer is simple, clear and verifiable: Former President Uhuru Kenyatta released the funds meant for election agents to his blood brother, Muhoho Kenyatta. Muhoho Kenyatta then appointed one Mr. Peter Mburu to take charge of the recruitment and payment of agents.”

PRESS STATEMENT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

I wish to respond to Senator Edwin Sifuna, the ODM Secretary General who moonlights for former President Uhuru Kenyatta within our party and who has challenged me to explain why agents in the 2022 General Election were neither paid nor…
— JUNET MOHAMED, E.G.H, MP.
Mburu, he claimed, presented himself as an IT expert capable of detecting and preventing any manipulation of results by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The Suna East MP also moved to defend his own political standing, rejecting insinuations that he may have betrayed the late ODM leader.

He argued that if he had at any point betrayed Raila, the late former prime minister would not have appointed him as the National Assembly minority leader.

“Let the record also be set straight: Hon. Raila Odinga would have had no reason whatsoever to appoint me—Hon. Junet Mohammed—as the Leader of the Minority in the National Assembly, if I had truly betrayed him,” he stated.

He argued that he had handled all the delicate assignments from Raila with fidelity and diligence for years.

Sifuna attacks Junet

Sifuna launched a fierce attack on Junet during the burial of Embakasi North MP James Gakuya’s mother, Alice Wangari Gakuya, in Makomboki, Murang’a County, on January 3, 2026.

He challenged Junet’s recent criticism of former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s financial support for the Azimio campaign.

Sifuna reminded the crowd of Mount Kenya’s critical role in past elections.

“Unajua watu wengi wamesahau mlima Kenya, kwa mara ya kwanza baba Raila Odinga alizua kura zaidi ya milioni moja. Na ndio maana mliona nikipigia Uhuru Kenyatta asante kwa sababu alitusaidia. Mlitusukuma lakini alitusaidia,” he said.

He stressed Uhuru’s direct support for the opposition.

ODM youth firebrand Kasmuel McOure has launched a blistering attack on Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of presiding over a humiliating defeat for the party in the just-concluded Kariobangi North Ward by-election.

In a strongly worded statement, McOure celebrated ODM’s commanding victories across the country but singled out Nairobi as the party’s “only stain,” arguing that the capital’s loss was avoidable and directly attributable to what he termed “duplicitous actors” within the leadership.

According to McOure, ODM’s top brass, particularly leaders from the Coast and Nyanza regions, delivered emphatic wins in their respective strongholds.

He praised former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Governor Abdulswamad Nassir for the party’s victory in Magarini, saying the triumph was executed with “precision” and bolstered by the deliberate elevation of young mobilizers.

He also lauded ODM Chairperson and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga for steering the party to victory in Kasipul and Ugunja, crediting her for empowering young organizers, including university student networks.

But when it came to Nairobi, McOure said the party failed to clinch a single seat “that was well within our reach,” pointedly suggesting that Sifuna, whose political base includes Kariobangi North, did not deliver.

“It was a complicated ward, but not impossible,” McOure wrote. “I need not name the duplicitous actors responsible; we all know them. The ones who lie in wait as real leaders plan, organize, and execute, only to emerge at the eleventh hour and attempt to claim podiums they never helped construct.”

In what appeared to be a direct jab at Sifuna, McOure accused certain Nairobi leaders of resorting to intimidation, leveraging bodyguards and goons to silence young people who challenge them.

“Among us are leaders so easily replaceable that their absence would not cause the slightest political tremor,” he said. “Yet they presume to take us for fools.”

All the leaders in the upper echelons of our party, the very individuals Baba trusted, invested in, and loved, delivered victories in their respective zones during these by-elections, often at great personal sacrifice.

McOure insisted that ODM must continue investing in the youth wing, which he described as the party’s “most consequential engine,” and warned that complacency or internal sabotage would cost the party its strong national standing ahead of future elections.

Sifuna has not publicly responded to the accusations.

ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna has issued a scathing statement condemning what he described as “one of the bloodiest election days in recent history,” accusing the government of failing to guarantee the safety of voters, candidates, and election officials during Thursday’s by-elections.

In his statement, Sifuna pointed to widespread violence reported across several hotspots, including Kabuchai, Malava, and Kasipul, claiming the country was witnessing a coordinated breakdown of security on a critical democratic exercise.

“Today has to be one of the bloodiest election days in recent history,” Sifuna said. “All the violence being witnessed across the country—from Kabuchai to Malava to Kasipul—points either to incompetence in the security command or their outright involvement in planning and executing it.”

The ODM leader placed direct blame on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and top security officials, arguing they had failed in their core mandate to protect citizens during the polls.

“CS Murkomen and his team must take responsibility for failing to secure the safety of all involved,” Sifuna stated.

Reports from various polling areas indicated clashes between rival groups, disruptions at polling stations, and cases of voter intimidation. Opposition leaders alleged that the violence was deliberate and meant to suppress voter turnout in certain regions.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna on Friday, April 25, 2025, skipped a meeting between the Orange party and the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

ODM hosted the UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar at Chungwa House for what the Orange party says was a discussion on various matters of national and mutual interest, including the NADCO report and the recently signed MoU between the two parties.

Omar was hosted by ODM Executive Director Oduor Ong’wen.

ODM, in a statement shared via social media, says the two parties agreed to have the pertinent issues raised by Kenyans resolved and ensure that the ten points highlighted in the MoU document are implemented to the later to avoid a backlash and mistrust by Kenyans.

“Executive Dir. @ongwen this morning hosted the @UDAKenya Sec. They agreed to have the pertinent issues raised by Kenyans resolved and ensure that the ten points highlighted in the document are implemented to the later to avoid a backlash and mistrust by Kenyans,” ODM stated.

Edwin Sifuna absent

Sifuna, who is a signatory to the MoU signed between the ruling party and ODM, was absent during the Friday meeting.

The Nairobi County Senator attended the requiem mass for the late Pope Francis at Holy Family Basilica instead.

“Mass for the late Pope Francis at Holy Family Basilica this morning. We continue to Pray for his Holiness to rest in Peace,” Sifuna wrote on X.

Sifuna-ODM fallout

There have been speculations of a fallout between Sifuna and the ODM party. Allies of the Orange party leader Raila Odinga have on several occasions called out Sifuna over his stance on some of the issues affecting the country and his criticism of President William Ruto’s administration.

During the signing of the deal between UDA and ODM, Sifuna made it clear that the Orange party would walk out of the agreement should the Kenya Kwanza administration go against any of the listed 10 points in the MoU.

On April 12, 2025, President Ruto clashed with Sifuna during the burial of Raila’s long-serving aide George Oduor and threatened to convene an ODM founding members meeting and take disciplinary action against the Nairobi Senator, should he continue criticising him.

Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition allied leaders have expressed their confidence ahead of the election petition that will be filed at the Supreme Court on Monday.

The Azimio allies drawn from the Western Kenya region have maintained that they will fight until their presidential candidate Raila Odinga becomes the 5th president of Kenya.

The coalition is set to challenge the election of William Ruto who was declared the president-elect in the just concluded General election.

While condoling with the family of Nairobi senator elect Edwin Sifuna who lost his grandmother Lukelesia Nafula Sifuna, Godfrey Osotsi, the senator elect for Vihiga County on ODM party ticket said that they have gathered enough evidence which they will use against the Kenya Kwanza team.

Osotsi went ahead to ask for electoral justice saying that the voters’ decisions must be respected.

He faulted the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati for going against the will of the people.

“It cannot be always that when Kenyans demonstrate their democratic right by voting, some few individuals like Chebukati ends up deciding for them who to be their president and that’s why we as AZIMIO One Kenya we are going to seek for a solution constitutionally to tackle those who were involved in this malicious act,” he said.

He went ahead to call out the president elect for going against the law by accepting other political parties from AZIMIO One Kenya to join Kenya Kwanza saying that he is manipulating them with money to join him and so risking losing their seats according to the political parties act that says that they are not supposed to do so.

“I want to tell the deputy president to slow down, he is yet to be the president and he might not be because I believe that the Supreme Court is going to nullify it. We have enough evidence to show that the tallying process was corrupt and so where we stand as a country, we are yet to know who the president is,” he said.

His sentiments were echoed by Edwin Sifuna who said that the decision now lies in the hands of the supreme court and as AZIMIO One Kenya, they have prepared adequately and they are sure that justice will prevail.

Business man and presidential candidate Jimmy Wanjigi has launched attacks at ODM leader Raila Odinga saying that he should come out to confirm if he will run for presidency in 2022.

He condemned those who are opposed to his move to open ODM offices saying that he is marketing the party at the grassroots yet some people are fighting him. The business man also emphasized that he will not leave ODM saying that he has invested a lot in the party and expects free and fair primaries.

While speaking in Mombasa, he urged ODM leadership to carry out genuine elections to identify real members in the party. He said Raila cannot be an umpire, player, the referee, the lines man and the VAR. He should announce his candidature and face all other interested candidates within the party law,” said Wanjigi.

ODM’s Central Committee on Wednesday threatened to take a disciplinary action against members planning to open branch offices in the grassroots without consulting the national office. This seemed to be a response to Jimmy Wanjigi after his move of opening offices in Central region.

ODM’s Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said anyone willing to open the offices should consult the national office, failure to do so attracts a disciplinary action. Sifuna’s response came days after the Registrar of Political Parties acknowledge receiving a letter from Wanjigi seeking that the part summarizes the presidential nomination process.

ODM’s Central Committee on Wednesday threatened to take disciplinary action against members planning to open branch offices without consulting the national office. The committee claimed that it had received many reports over opening of offices across the country, perhaps in Jimmy Wanjigi’s move.

ODM’s Secretary General Edwin Sifuna issued a statement that anyone willing to open a branch office should consult the national office failure to do so, such offices will not be recognized. He reminded members that such brazen violation of their rules will attract disciplinary action.

Wanjigi began opening offices in Mt. Kenya two months ago after declaring his interest in the presidency. This statement from Sifuna comes a few days after the Registar of Political Parties acknowledged receiving a letter from Wanjigi seeking that the party summarizes the presidential nomination process.

A month ago, Wanjigi wrote to ODM demanding certified list of party delegates who are to attend the National Delegates Convention. The committee resolved to extend free membership registration for ordinary members that was September 30 to December 31. The Central Committee advised party leaders at the grassroots to go back to their respective areas to coordinate and support voter registration.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has condemned Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi for storming out of the consecration event of Bishop Rose Okeno in Butere, Kakamega County on Sunday September 12, 2021.

Mudavadi alongside his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetang’ula and devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugine Wamalwa walked out of the event after Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit barred politicians from speaking.

The event that was held at Butere Girls’ High School was also attended by ODM leader Raila Odinga, COTU boss Francis Atwoli and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

Sifuna through his official Twitter account has said that it was shameful and disrespectful for Mudavadi to walk out when the first woman Bishop of the Anglican Church was giving her maiden speech.

Whilst a section of media had earlier reported that Raila was part of the political class that stormed out of the event, Sifuna has dismissed the claims, arguing that Raila stayed to the end.

“Very shameful and disrespectful conduct. Worse still they stormed out when the first woman Bishop of the Anglican Church was giving her maiden speech,” Sifuna tweeted while responding to a video clip showing politicians leaving the event.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and economist David Ndii have this morning engaged in a twitter spat over a petition that was filed in court to challenge the constitutional changes that are set to happen through the famous Building Bridges initiative.

Economist David Ndii and activists Jerotich Seii, Jane Ngondi, Wanjiru Gikonyo and Ikal Angelei are seeking ‘to stop reggae completely’ with their eyes on sections of law which are at the heart of the BBI drive.

The petitioners, through lawyer Nelson Havi, want the court to declare that five chapters of the 2010 Constitution – Chapter One, Chapter Two, Chapter Four, Chapter Nine and Chapter Ten – cannot be altered or changed through amendments, either by Parliament or popular initiative. They argue these chapters form the foundation of the country and should not therefore be altered.

However, Sifuna while responding to the petition argued that it should be thrown out as it is a “poorly” drafted “academic thesis disguised as pleadings.”

Sifuna further argued that instead of the three Judge bench they want, Chief Justice David Maraga should save time and money and dismiss the petition.

“Some “activists” filed an academic thesis disguised as pleadings. You will not see more poorly drafted, nebulous, theoretical musings than that so called petition. Instead of the 3 Judge bench they want, the CJ shd save time and money and dismiss the thing in limine,” Sifuna posted.

Some "activists" filed an academic thesis disguised as pleadings.

In his response, Ndii said a law degree should be a second degree, adding that the lawyer does not “know now his Dworkin from his Hart.”

Ronald Dworkin argues that moral principles that people hold dear are often wrong, even to the extent that certain crimes are acceptable if one’s principles are skewed enough.

This one does not seem to know his Dworkin from his Hart. Technician.

Sifuna again, came to fire back urging the economist to instead share the court papers on his blog.

Terming the filed petition as a conference presentation, Sifuna told Ndii that it will be thrown out faster than he could say second degree.

“My brother… Court papers are not economic theory. That conference presentation you filed will be thrown out faster than you can say 2nd degree. You should just have posted it on that blog of yours along with your other musings on dynasties,” he posted.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has accused Deputy Presidenty William Ruto of performing witchcraft in a Nandi forest.

Taking to his official twitter account on Saturday June 6, Sifuna called on the nation to turn into prayers to to break the “bondages that were placed on this nation in that Nandi forest”.

He has called upon President Uhuru Kenyatta to reopen worship places, arguing that the country will need every knee on the floor to break the rituals that were performed in the dark by DP Ruto.

“I now unequivocally support the reopening of churches. We will need every knee on the floor to break whatever dark bondages were placed on this nation in that Nandi forest. Whatever Covid does to us pales in comparison to those ritualistic sacrifices by DP Ruto,” he tweeted.

I now unequivocally support the reopening of churches.

His post follows reports that the Talai elders on Friday June 5 performed sacrifices and cleansed DP Ruto to protect him from harm and political miseries.

The two-hour elaborate ceremony, according to reports, was organised by the Nandi Laibons Council of Elders and was conducted in Kipsirwo village from 5am to 7am. It was meant to protect the DP from bad omens.

Dressed in a blue blazer and khaki trousers, the DP and his political allies arrived early morning for the ceremony. He was doused with milk and honey from a special traditional gourd by elders dressed in wild animal skins.

The elders, popularly known as Orkoik, held prayers and offered sacrifices on a nearby hill. They included Christopher arap Agui, Lawrence Nganai, and Stephen arap Tormoi.

Ruto was then handed leadership instruments, including a baton (nogirwet) and a traditional stick (Siarit) said to have been used by legendary Nandi chief medicine man Orgoiyot-Kipnyolei arap Turgat.

They had gathered at the home of retired Anglican priest Canon James Baasi. Elders from the larger Talai clan were selected to preside over the event.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has blasted The Standard newspaper over a controversial headline that dragged ODM into Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee party problems.

The newspaper on Tuesday ran a story titled ” The Wars in Uhuru and Raila parties”.

Sifuna says the story under the titled is all about Jubilee but ODM were lumped together.

He says he read the story keenly looking to see who was fighting who in ODM and over what, but the writer of the story did not say.

Sifuna is now accusing the Mombasa road-based media house of misunderstanding balance when it comes to news.

He says that the media house understands balance as including everyone in their stories.

“@StandardKenya understands balance to mean including everyone in their stories. This story is about Jubilee…but it had to “balance” so we were lumped together. I read looking to see who was fighting who in ODM and over what…the writer Moses Nyamori doesn’t say. Takataka tu,” he tweeted.
