Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has publicly clashed with President William Ruto’s long-time aide, Farouk Kibet, over development in Western Kenya.

Natembeya, who has been a strong critic of Ruto’s administration, told Farouk to face him if he has any misgivings about his leadership.

“Do not think that because you are close to the President, you can lecture us. I do not fear you; come and face me. Do not speak from the periphery. It is as simple as that,” the governor told a public meeting over the weekend.

Natembeya told Kenyans to respect those in leadership positions but not to fear them.

“I was taught by my mother to respect people and leaders, for that matter. And I respect President Wiliam Ruto, but I do not fear him because he is also a human being,” he stated.

“When we start fearing the leadership, we are bringing dictatorship to our country.”

The governor emphasised that the country belongs to all Kenyans and not a group of people.

“The President eats ugali and sour milk just like me, he sleeps just like me, he has bad and good dreams just like me, and he was born by a woman just like me. Why the should we fear each other yet Kenya belongs to all of us,” he posed.

Speaking in Malava in Kakamega County earlier, Farouk accused Natembeya of being a stumbling block to development in Western Kenya.

“I heard a complaint, and I want to ask you something. Natembeya is saying I should not visit Malava; is that possible?” he said.

Natembeya has strongly criticised Ruto’s recent tour of Western Kenya, arguing that the region has been neglected in terms of development.

Natembeya further called out Ruto’s handlers, accusing them of misleading the president on the needs and priorities of the people of Western Kenya.

He urged Ruto to reconsider his close circle of advisors, arguing that they deceive him rather than relay the true needs of the people on the ground.

Natembeya expressed disappointment over Western Kenya’s lack of development and emphasised that the region deserves equal infrastructure projects like other parts of the country.

Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has cleared the air on claims of having been bribed Ksh 10 million by Deputy President William Ruto.

Appearing on K24’s Punchline show on the night of Sunday May 10, the now troubled lawmaker said that there has been a comment doing rounds on social media that he had been given Ksh 10 million by DP Ruto through his Personal Assistant Farouk Kibet.

Olekina dismissed the claims, terming the comment as stupid. He said that he had never met Farouk.

“There was a stupid comment circulating on social media that Farouk gave me Sh10 million. I have never met Farouk,” Olekina said.

Speculations that Senator Ledama was closely working with DP Ruto’s Tanga Tanga camp started when Tanga Tanga senators overwhelmingly voted him as the new chair of the Senate County Public Accounts and Investment Committee, replacing Homa Bay senator Moses Kajwang.

The Raila Odinga led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is this week expected to replace now rebel Olekina as chair of the powerful committee.

The election set for Thursday this week follows days of fierce wrangling within and outside the powerful senate watchdog committee, that has opened yet another political battlefront between Odinga, and deputy president William Ruto’s allies in the senate.

Olekina contested and won the election on Monday last week against his party’s preferred candidate Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri.

He had already chaired the CPAIC’s first meeting when Senate minority leader James Orengo (ODM) gave a notice indicating the party’s wish to dewhip him from the CPAIC and the Senate Business Committee (SBC).

Deputy President William Ruto’s long time aide Farouk Kibet has hatched plot to milk millions from the late Mzee Daniel Moi’s family-owned company.

Farouk has moved to demand what he has termed as a reasonable offer for damages from Standard Media Group.

Farouk is also demanding an apology from the Mombasa road-based media house.

This follows a controversial story ran by the media house’ newspaper that linked three of DP Ruto’s aides to the Ksh 39 billion military arms deal.

According to the story ran by The Standard, detectives from Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday camped at DP Ruto’s office.

The detectives were also said to be keen to rope in all the ring leaders of the scheme as well as to corroborate the evidence adduced by the victims.

Of key interest were three top officials of the office who by the virtue of their positions ought to have been in the know when such a humongous deal was being struck.

These are long-time personal aide of the DP Farouk Kibet, Chief of Staff Ken Osinde and Private Secretary Reuben Maiyo.

Echesa who was arrested on Thursday last week was on Monday released on a Sh1 million cash bail amid investigations into the Sh40 billion arms fraud case involving American organisations, Echo Advanced Technologies.

At the Milimani Law Courts on Monday, Mr Echesa was charged alongside three people — Daniel Otieno, Clifford Okoth and Kennedy Oyoo.

They all denied charges of conspiring to commit a felony, making a document without authority, obtaining money by pretence, attempting to commit a felony and uttering a false document.

Mr Otieno, Mr Okoth and Mr Oyoo were also released on the same terms.
