National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has announced the death of Amani National Congress (ANC) nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Denar Joseph Hamisi, following a grisly road accident.

In a statement released on Saturday, December 6, 2025, Wetang’ula said that Hamisi had passed away at about 7:00 am.

“It is with profound sorrow that I hereby notify the House and the entire Parliamentary fraternity of the untimely demise of Nominated Member, the late Hon. Denar Joseph Hamisi, MP, who passed on today, Saturday, December 6, 2025, at about 7:00 am,” the Speaker said.

“Denar was nominated to the National Assembly following the 2022 General Elections under the Amani National Congress (ANC) Party.”

Wetang’ula stated that until his untimely demise, Denar served the National Assembly with diligence and commitment as a Member of the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities.

Born in 1969 in Kinango, Denar studied at Mombasa Baptist High School before pursuing further education at the United States International University.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management and a Master’s in International Business Administration.

He later obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi. Before joining Parliament, he held several senior roles in the public sector, including Director at the Coast Development Authority, Commissioner at the Electoral Commission of Kenya.

He was also the Director at the Kenya Airports Authority, Director at the Kenya National Accreditation Services, and held council positions at both the University of Nairobi and Moi University.

Denar was remembered for humility, dedication to duty, and service to the nation.

The Speaker conveyed condolences on behalf of MPs and staff of the National Assembly.

“As we come to terms with the passing on of our colleague, I have appointed Members to liaise with the family and coordinate a befitting send-off for the Late Denar. The team will be led by the Deputy Leader of the Majority Party, Owen Baya Yaa.”

The political ground in Kakamega appears to be shifting, with Ford Kenya party leader and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula hosting a high-powered delegation of ODM leaders at the home of Lurambi MP Bishop Titus Khamala in Eshibuli, Kakamega County, on Friday, September 19, 2025.

In attendance were a number of ODM lawmakers, including Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda, Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera, Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka Wangaya, and Shinyalu MP Bernard Shinali.

Also present was the Cooperatives and MSMEs Cabinet Secretary and former Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya, who doubles as ODM Deputy Party Leader.

The rare political gathering has sparked speculation of an imminent defection by Kakamega ODM leaders to Wetang’ula’s Ford Kenya, signalling deepening cracks within ODM’s Western Kenya base.

The move comes just days after Kakamega Governor Fernandez Barasa was declared the new chairperson of the ODM Kakamega County branch, defeating Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera.

The declaration immediately ignited controversy, with Oparanya and Muhanda dismissing the outcome.

In a dramatic show of defiance, the two leaders held a homecoming event for Nabwera, declaring him the “real winner” of the Kakamega ODM chairmanship polls.

By rallying behind Wetang’ula, a seasoned political kingpin in Western, the disgruntled ODM leaders appear to be sending a powerful signal to ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga.

Wetang’ula, who successfully delivered a bloc of Western votes to President William Ruto in 2022 under the Kenya Kwanza coalition, is now positioning Ford Kenya as the natural political home for disillusioned ODM leaders in the region.

State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed has revealed the details of the Monday morning meeting between President William Ruto, Chief Justice Martha Koome and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

Hussein in a statement shared via his official X account said President Ruto had convened the leadership meeting of the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary, at the request of the Judiciary.

The meeting aimed at deliberating on building approaches to fight corruption, enhance accountability and to facilitate the efficient and seamless delivery of services to the people of Kenya.

The Executive, Judiciary and Legislature have agreed to each submit, within 30 days, proposals on fighting corruption, improving service delivery and enhancing institutional accountability to a forum of the National Council of the Administration of Justice convened by the Chief Justice.

To optimize the efficient service delivery and the fight against corruption, the Executive and legislature will support the Judiciary’s request for additional budgetry.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has blamed National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula for the mishap that saw Azimio MPs skip Parliament on Wednesday evening during the voting of the proposed Finance Bill, 2023.

The lawmaker in a video posted on his official social media handles says the original plan from the Parliamentary leadership was for the voting process to take place next week after the third reading, only for speaker Wetang’ula to change tune moments after a section of Azimio MPs had left.

The controversial lawmaker read malice in the situation, pointing out that several MPs from the Azimio la Umoja coalition missed out on the voting process because of the initial directive. 

Babu Owino said he missed the voting since he had arranged to meet his lawyer to prepare for his defence hearing at Milimani Law Courts slated for Thursday, June 15, following Wetang’ula’s earlier communication. 

He says he had already consulted with Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi whom he disclosed that he had to prepare for his court case.

“I was not present today (Wednesday) in Parliament because my case has been scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday) in court for defense hearing and I was with my lawyer,” he said.

Out of 257 MPs present at the August House, 176 voted for the bill while 81 legislators voted against it during the second reading. The Bill now moves to the Third and final reading where legislators get a chance to amend certain clauses within the Bill. 

The Finance Bill, 2023, was tabled in Parliament on Tuesday, June 13, by the National Assembly’s Finance and National Planning Committee. 

The committee, chaired by Molo MP Kuria Kimani, advocated for certain amendments in the Bill to cater to the concerns raised by the public. 

This involved reduction of the Housing Fund tax from three percent to 1.5 percent. Further, the proposed digital tax was revised to five percent from the initial 16 percent.

Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang’ula has sent a piece of advice to Wiper Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Through his official Twitter account, the Bungoma senator who is also a Kenya Kwanza Alliance co-principal told Kalonzo not to allow political turncoats to shape his destiny.

Wetang’ula advised the former Vice President to think carefully before entering any coaltion deal with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

He cited the history of betrayal and deceit, plus the arrogance being displayed as reasons why Kalonzo should turn down any calls for him to board the Azimio La Umoja train.

“My dear brother and friend Vp Kalonzo don’t allow political turncoats to shape your destiny. With the history of betrayal and deceit, plus the arrogance being displayed, think carefully before you enter the tent,” tweeted Wetang’ula.

Kalonzo has remained indecisive on whether to go alone, join Deputy President William Ruto’s side or Raila’s side.

Wetang’ula’s advice comes just hours after Kalonzo hosted his OKA counterpart Gideon Moi and Jimmy Kibaki who is the party leader of the New Democrats Party.

Kanu party leader Gideon Moi earlier today denied the media reports that the party was planning to ditch One Kenya Alliance (OKA) for Azimio la Umoja.

In a statement, the Kanu chairman said the party is firmly in OKA.

He has further said that OKA was united as a coalition, “and we have taken a common position that our talks with the Azimio and any other parties, must be structured, open and honest if we are to make progress.”

Gideon Moi has said that sentiments by Party Secretary-General Nick Salat, including the declaration that the party will attend the Azimio coalition NDC on Saturday, were his personal opinions.

Ever since president Uhuru Kenyatta started meeting ODM leader Raila Odinga and Okoa Kenya Alliance (OKA) co-principals for a possible coalition ahead of 2022, the details of his meeting has been leaking.

Former State House employee Dennis Itumbi who currently works as Deputy President William Ruto’s aide has been leaking the meeting’s details through his official social media accounts.

When President Kenyatta met Raila alongside ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula, Kanu’s Gideon Moi and Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya in Mombasa last week, Itumbi who runs Hustler Nation Intelligence Bureau leaked the details of the meeting to the public, through his Facebook account.

It has now emerged that there has been a mole among the politicians who have been meeting President Kenyatta. The mole, who is among the OKA co-principals, leaks the information to DP Ruto’s camp immediately after the meeting.

Details now indicate that the High-Ranking Politician was last weekend given a dressing-down by a senior senator who accused him of being a mole.

He was accused of leaking the contents of high-level and sensitive meetings to an operative of the opposing camp.

The senator complained that when President Kenyatta  and ODM boss met alone early this month, there was no leakage.

But when the leader was privy to the deliberations of the delegation that met the President in Mombasa, all the details and speculation spilt out.

The senator told the leader to his face that he was holding brief for their opponents and that the time had come to blow his cover.
