Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has opened up on the various options he had after he was attacked at Nyayo National Stadium during the Harambee Stars vs. Gabon match.

Salasya, while narrating his ordeal in a video shared via his official social media accounts on Monday, March 24, 2025, said that the attack on him had been well planned.

According to him, he had very dangerous retaliation options, which he chose not to pursue.

“I could have decided to go and sit in the middle of the pitch, and that game would have been postponed. Another option could have caused a stampede,” he said.

“I thank God I went alone. I didn’t go with my bodyguards; I didn’t arm myself because that could have been a disaster.”

Salasya also argued that the planners of his attack took advantage of the football match because they knew he was not a coward.

“What happened yesterday was a planned thing. I remember I was the first one who told people to come to Nyayo. They took advantage because they knew I would definitely come because I am not a coward at all,” he said.

Salasya went ahead to reveal that he had only tagged along with a friend, as he did not anticipate violence.

He narrated how events unfolded from the moment he got to Nyayo Stadium, where Gabon and Harambee Stars were set to play a football match.

“The moment I entered, it was planned, and someone warned me at the gate. Then there was one guy who was following me everywhere I went. I went up to the VIP, and he was still following me,” Salasya said.

Salasya said if the attack had not been planned, then the people against him would not have teamed up to attack him.

A section of leaders has since condemned the attack on Salasya, with some calling for respect and political tolerance.

Mudavadi condemns incident

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is among the leaders that have heavily condemned the attack.

Mudavadi, in a statement shared via his official social media accounts on Sunday night, termed the incident as unfortunate.

He further stated that political intolerance would undermine the very foundation of Kenya’s democracy, which relies on the ability to engage with differing views.

“What happened to Hon. Peter Salasya at Nyayo Stadium today is unfortunate. Political intolerance undermines the very foundation of our democracy, which relies on the ability to engage with differing views,” Mudavadi said.

He went ahead to urge Kenyans to always respect everyone whom they do not hold the same political view, telling them that risked tearing down everything leaders hope to build should they allow division to win.

“We won’t always agree, and that’s okay. But respect, dialogue, and unity must remain non-negotiable. Respect must be given, but it must also be earned. Fellow Kenyans, no one else will build this nation for us. If we let division win, we risk tearing down everything we hope to build. A house divided cannot stand. Let’s choose reason over chaos and maturity over noise. Kenya’s future depends on it,” Mudavadi stated.

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya on Sunday, March 23, 2025, faced it rough when he showed up at Nyayo National Stadium for the World Cup Qualifier pitting Kenya’s Harambee Stars against Gabon.

Salasya was roughed up at the stadium, beaten and forced to flee after he encountered a hostile reception.

A section of Kenyans had made it clear earlier on that they would not entertain politicians during the Harambee Stars vs Gabon match, that is currently underway.

However, Salasya’s attackers are heard telling him to respect the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga.

The company was allegedly told to provide a Ksh700,000 bribe to a phone number registered in Salasya’s name in order to win the tender.

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has, on several occasions, flaunted his payslip to the public, with his net salary being as low as Ksh 18,000. However, the youthful lawmaker has managed to live large, with him even currently putting up a multi-million mansion in his rural home in Kisumu Ndogo village.

But have you ever wondered why Salasya has been able to eat life with a big spoon despite the loans and debts that have squeezed his payslip? Well, Salasya has been accused by a number of company owners of planning fraudulent tender schemes in his constituency.

Salasya’s CDF tender frauds

Salasya approached a company in one such instance, presenting himself and members of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) committee and offering a direct tender award.

The company was allegedly told to provide a Ksh700,000 bribe to a phone number registered in Salasya’s name in order to win the tender.

Salasya reportedly stopped communicating once the cash transaction was completed, and the promised tender offer was never given out.

The phone number in question had previously been reported by Salasya to the police as being used by scammers, the duped company was told when they tried to report the occurrence to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Salasya in debts

In addition, Salasya has been sued for outstanding debts. The Kakamega Small Claims Court ordered him to pay back Ksh500,000 to businessman Robert Lutta in November 2023. Lutta had given him the money in December 2022 with the understanding that it would be repaid in two months. Salasya disregarded the court’s decision, and in January 2024, an arrest order was issued as a result.

Because of allegations that the car was jointly owned by the National Assembly, attempts to sell some of Salasya’s possessions, including a Toyota Land Cruiser, failed, making it more difficult to implement the court’s ruling.

Salasya financial instability

MP Salasya’s financial instability has been depicted by these occurrences. Even though he frequently exhibits amusing and lighthearted conduct in public, these ethical and legal difficulties point to more serious problems.

For his Mumias East constituency, MP Salasya’s accusations have important ramifications. Effective government depends on public faith in public authorities, and such disputes have the potential to undermine that trust.

The distribution and administration of public funds may be questioned by constituents, particularly if a representative is connected to financial wrongdoing.

There are now more demands for accountability and transparency as a result of the events that are taking place. To make sure that public office is not abused for private benefit, there is an increasing call for in-depth inquiries of Salasya’s financial transactions.

These incidents demonstrate the necessity of strong systems to hold public servants responsible and shield the public from dishonest behavior.

Salasya’s scandals are a sobering reminder of how difficult it is to guarantee moral behavior from public servants.

Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has been arrested for assaulting MCA Peter Walunya at a burial in Mumias, Kakamega County.

While attending a funeral in his constituency, Salasya could not withstand the fact that he was supposed to address mourners alongside other local politicians.

After grabbing the microphone, the MP condoled with the family of the deceased but as he wrapped up his speech, he spotted the MCA who had lined up for a chance to speak.

Sometimes you really want young people in leadership, other times, you just pray for veterans like @dr_oburuoginga and his fellow youths, to retain power and stay up there because of such.

PK Salasya then angrily ordered the local politician to go and sit down.

However, the adamant politician stood still and before he could realize, Salasya had already landed on him with a hot slap.

The lawmaker’s security officers on noticing that the local politician would fight back, they hurriedly rushed to the scene and fought him away, to protect their boss.

The actions have attracted the wrath of Kenyans on social media, with a section of politicians joining the course.

Salasya has been put on the chopping board, and is being roasted for his unending controversies.

Our leaders have gone mad.

It should be remembered that not long ago, the MP was at the center of a controversy that saw goons attack him and destroy the rear windscreen of his luxury vehicle during the burial of former nominated senator Godliver Omondi in Mumias, Kakamega County.

In May last year, he was again attacked while addressing Mumias Sugar issues at a local event attended by Kakamega governor Fernandes Barasa.
