<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has admitted to paying millions of shillings to Amaco Insurance, a company reportedly associated with Deputy President Dr William Ruto.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Mike Sonko addresses the AMACO tender issue.<br><br>&quot; I paid Amaco. A company which is associated with the deputy President &quot;<br><br> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/KTNPointBlank?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#KTNPointBlank</a><br> <a href="https://twitter.com/TonyGachoka?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@TonyGachoka</a> <a href="https://t.co/acPbjHLK8U">pic.twitter.com/acPbjHLK8U</a></p>&mdash; ktn (@KTNKenya) <a href="https://twitter.com/KTNKenya/status/1187096344688824320?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">October 23, 2019</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Speaking on Wednesday night on the Pointblank show hosted by Tony Gachoka, Governor Sonko rebuffed claims that the payment smacked of corruption.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">&#8220;I paid Amaco. A company which is associated with the Deputy President, &#8221; he said.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Mike Sonko elaborates on the AMACO connections and how the tenders were awarded from panel beating agreements, leasing of yards and others&#8230; <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/KTNPointBlank?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#KTNPointBlank</a><br> <a href="https://twitter.com/TonyGachoka?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@TonyGachoka</a> <a href="https://t.co/5t1YSXnC2y">pic.twitter.com/5t1YSXnC2y</a></p>&mdash; ktn (@KTNKenya) <a href="https://twitter.com/KTNKenya/status/1187099531156045825?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">October 23, 2019</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">According to the flamboyant county boss, the Nairobi County government entered into a contract with the insurance company even before he became the governor.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The contract would see vehicles belonging to the county government of Nairobi panel beaten back to shape should they be damaged.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Sonko explained that Amaco sub-contracted panel beating to another company he said is owned by his friend.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">He rejected claims that the award of the tender was flawed, saying that Amaco was subjected to a competitive and rigorous process before the tender was awarded.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The payment to Amaco is part of an ongoing investigation initiated by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">According to the EACC, money was wired to Governor Sonko&#8217;s personal account by an individual who was given a tender by the county government of Nairobi, raising questions of financial impropriety.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">KTN News show presenter has faulted Kenyans over Likoni ferry tragedy that saw a woman and her four-year daughter lose their lives after their car slid off the ferry on Sunday evening plunging 60 meters deep the Indian Ocean.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Kenyans have been criticizing the government over the tragedy, arguing that little is being done by the state to retrieve the bodies of the victims.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Some are arguing that the government has been careless to allow nonseaworthy ferries to carry on with their operations along different crossing channels at the Kenyan Coast.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But taking to his twitter account on Tuesday morning, KTN PointBlank presenter Tony Gachoka faulted Kenyans for blaming the government for everything as he questioned the role of a citizen.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">In Kenya we blame the government for everything:-<br>Road accidents<br>Matatu overloading<br>School Fires<br>Ferry Accident<br>Knut Union wars<br>Greedy Mps<br>Corruption<br>Terror Attacks<br>Fights in Churches<br>Cohen Murder<br>Courts not Jailing suspects<br>Drug epidemic<br>What’s the role of a citizen?<a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/October1st?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#October1st</a></p>&mdash; Tony Gachoka (@TonyGachoka) <a href="https://twitter.com/TonyGachoka/status/1178931264772030465?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">October 1, 2019</a></blockquote><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Efforts to retrieve the bodies and the car have been futile, 48 hours later.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The operation is however still going on after the government on Monday sourced for diving equipment from a South African company to help undertake the operation.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Mariam Kigenda Taita, 35, and her four-year-old daughter died after the vehicle they were traveling in slid off MV Harambee Sunday evening.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The family’s relatives, including Mariam’s husband on Monday camped at the Likoni channel as they waited in vain for KFS to retrieve the bodies of their kin.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Frustrated, they faulted the government for not doing enough especially since in navy officers could be seen nearby conducting drills.</p>
