Tottenham Vs Liverpool

The 2017/18 season was the last time Tottenham beat Liverpool in the premier league, a game which featured Harry Kane bagging a brace.

Since then, the Lilywhites have been held hostage to Liverpool’s house of pain. Having been beaten at home to Burnley, this was the first time in fifty five premier league games Liverpool lost at Anfield.

This stirred up Liverpool’s hunger of taking three points from Tottenham once again, when they travelled to Tottenham Hotspur ground.

The game commenced in great style as both teams looked to fire goals at both ends of the field. Sadio Mane blew the first big chance of the evening at the second minute, and it was apparent that Jurgen Klopp was furious about this.

Due to their drop back formation, Son Heung Min got in behind the Liverpool backline at the counter to guide the ball past the net, but the goal was ruled for offside after a lengthy VAR check.

The game continued intensely with Tottenham preferring to play in open spaces as opposed to the park -the-bus system they adopted under Mourinho.

Both sides continued to create chances but it was Liverpool who worked a beautiful team goal courtesy of a perfectly timed run by Sadio Mane who placed it in the path of Firmino for an easy tap in. The score was one nil to Liverpool at half time.

Two minutes into the second half, Mane curled a shot at goal, forcing a save from Hugo Lloris, but Trent Alexander Arnold was at the right place at the right time to strike the rebound, making it two nil.

Tottenham were however back into the game just almost immediately. Harry Winks set up Pierre Emille Hojberg for a stunning Shot outside the 18 yard box. Surely, Karl-Heinze Rummenigge would be proud.

Deep into second half, Liverpool launched a counter attack and Salah hit it near post but again the goal was ruled out for off side for an earlier handball by the brazillian number nine.

This was however not the end of Liverpool’s threat. Alexander Arnold swung a marvelous cross from far out wide to find the Senegalese international who put it past the excellent Hugo Lloris.

Liverpool went on to hold on to the three points, but retained their fourth place at the table. Frustration for Mourinho and Tottenham fans as the onslaught under Jurgen Klopp continues.
