Government will quarantine all cash from local banks for a period of one week, Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) governor Patrick Njoroge has said.

The move is part of precautionary measures being undertaken by the state to avoid the spread of COVID-19 which is also transmitted through cash exchange.

The CBK governor has further encouraged Kenyans to adopt mobile money transfers in their daily transaction to minimize the chances of spreading the virus.

Following a meeting with commercial banks on Monday, March 16, 2020, the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has announced a set of measures that commercial banks will undertake in order to alleviate the adverse economic effects their customers may face from the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). While the extent of the adverse effects are still evolving, it is already evident that the impact on some of the customers may be severe.

To help alleviate the adverse effects, the following emergency measures will apply for borrowers whose loan repayments were up to date as at March 2, 2020.

  1. Banks will seek to provide relief to borrowers on their personal loans based on their individual circumstances arising from the pandemic.
  2. To provide relief on personal loans, banks will review requests from borrowers for extension of their loan for a period of up to one year. To initiate this process, borrowers should contact their respective banks.
  1. Medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and corporate borrowers can contact their banks for assessment and restructuring of their loans based on their respective circumstances arising from the pandemic.
  2. Banks will meet all the costs related to the extension and restructuring of loans.
  3. To facilitate increased use of mobile digital platforms, banks will waive all charges for balance inquiry.
  4. As earlier announced, all charges for transfers between mobile money wallets and bank accounts will be eliminated.

CBK will closely monitor the implementation of these measures, particularly in light of the fast-evolving nature of the economic impact of the pandemic.

Kiambu Women Representative Gathoni Wamuchomba has called and threatened a freelance journalist.

The Woman MP on Monday morning called and told of Miltone Were, the freelance journalist.

Hon Wamuchomba accused the journalist of writing a non factual story about her.

She claims that Mr Were owns a local media website dubbed Mt Kenya News, the allegations that have been denied by the journalist.

“Starting a website is not an is easy thing. It is cumbersome and requires a lot of finance to run a news site. Where can I go and get such resources from? Secondly the women representative did not even take time to ask me if I knew anything about the site but the best thing she did was to give a phone call and start threatening my life which I don’t think she’s right according to the Kenyan constitution,” Mr. Were said.

She went ahead to tell Mr. Were that she would make sure that he disappears in a funny manner if you continued writing stories about her.

Listen to the audio below

AUDIO

The lawmaker is said to have been irked by two stories that were running on the site and demanded that they be pulled down.

However, the woman MP is no stranger to controversies.

She once became the talk in the country after urging local men to embrace polygamy.

In August 2017 barely weeks after clinching her seat, she went on national TV and lambasted the proposal for salary cap for MPs by the salaries and remuneration commission.

The legislator claimed that she wanted to be paid well and be honoured for who she was.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga allies have issued a hard-hitting statement against Deputy President Dr William Ruto.

The leaders drawn from both the National Assembly and the Senate blasted the second in command over his comments on the murder of Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei, daring him to resign.

The over 50 MPs issued a length statement condemning the DP’s conduct.

They also listed a myriad of scandals, including a claim that Ruto has links with the underworld.

The statement listing of crimes allegedly committed by the DP appeared to support a recent impeachment threat issued by Siaya Senator James Orengo who was conspicuously present at the press conference.

Here is the full statement:

THE FIFTH COLUMN – THE ENEMY FROM WITHIN

STATEMENT ON THE REPREHENSIBLE CONDUCT OF THE

DEPUTY PRESIDENT – H. E. WILLIAM RUTO

The Constitution of Kenya 2010 provides for the establishment of a multi-party democratic State based on specific and enumerated foundational values.

Under the said Constitution the Deputy President does not undertake a separate and distinct nomination process in presidential elections. He/she is therefore the principal assistant of the President as an integral appendage of the presidency who must operate under restricted and limited terms and conditions within the general authority of the President. The Deputy President must loyally assist the President in promoting the unity of the nation and the occupier of the office must respect, uphold and safeguard the Constitution.

Above all, as a State officer, the Deputy President must be at the forefront in complying with the responsibilities of leadership as spelled out in Chapter Six of the Constitution on Leadership and Integrity.

The Deputy President William Ruto has declared war against established state institutions some of them which are creatures of the Constitution, just like his high office. The police (which includes DCI), and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions are constitutional bodies. The Deputy President is the second highest ranking member of the National Security Council which exercises supervisory control over national security organs and ipso facto he is well placed to deal with questions or challenges that may arise concerning the operations of security organs.

The Deputy President should therefore be the last person to complain against government institutions in funerals and roadside pronouncements with a loud megaphone. That can only undermine the authority and mandate of government institutions and may well constitute an offence against public order.

The Deputy President has questioned the capacity and mandate of the investigatory and prosecutorial organs of state. These persistent attacks have targeted numerous public officers including Fred Matiangi, Karanja Kibicho, George Kinoti and Noordin Haji who serve at the core of public service functions and operations.

He has claimed that the system has been mobilized “to bring him down” and persistently alleged that his life is in danger. In recent attacks he has not spared the Head of State either with a crude and sinister reference to the purported existence of a deep state. These attacks have now peaked with the creation of a team, directly loyal to William Ruto, within the ruling party, with the objective of insidiously eroding the prestige and honour of the President of the Republic and the Leader of his Party and to fight the government from within. This is unacceptable and ultimately renders the government dysfunctional and divided.

THE OPEN WAR ON THE PRESIDENT AND GOOD GOVERNANCE

Last year the President and Raila Odinga embarked on and launched a major initiative to fight against corruption and to build bridges leading to the exalted destination of a united and prosperous Kenya. The Deputy President has questioned the formulation and implementation of these noble objectives. Despite national and international acclaim and approval of the Building Bridges Initiative the Deputy President has openly fought against it. The narrative of peace, justice and reconciliation is total anathema to the Deputy President. The brazen attacks on the government and public institutions have been extended to the social media and targeted varied groups in society. In these circumstances the “centre cannot hold” unless appropriate action is taken against these egregious malfeasances against democracy, the rule of law, accountability and good governance.

The President has appealed to State officers and the nation as a whole that the country should not be subjected to early campaigns for the 2022 general elections. The Deputy President has bluntly disobeyed his principal, and in this regard, in our view, this constitutes gross misconduct and an act of insubordination.

INTEGRITY ISSUES

The authority and respect of the government has been subverted by the integrity issues facing the Deputy President. In fact the question of the rectitude and forthrightness of the Deputy President has always clouded the character of the Deputy President right from the beginning as his public record has constantly been fraught with concerns and controversies about his ethical probity ranging from the grabbing of public and private land to participation in fraudulent deals. The list is endless but let us mention the following –

(a) The maize scandals

(b) Land grabbing including the KCAA land on which he has developed the Weston Hotel.

(c) Arror and Kimwerer dam projects. He sensationally claimed that no money was lost and that there was a legitimate expenditure of Kshs. 7 billion for the projects by the National Treasury.

(d) Operations of AMACO in questionable deals and contracts with Kenya Pipeline Corporation and other state institutions.

(e) Manipulation of planning, budgeting and procurement procedures and irregular securing of payments for his personal benefit and thereby acting in constant abuse of office contrary to the law of the land.

(f) History of fraud, acquisition of unexplained wealth and unjust enrichment.

(g) Arms deals and association with the underworld.

LAUNCHING GHOST PROJECTS

The Public Accounts Committee has openly accused Ruto of launching ghost projects. He purportedly commissioned the Lower Nzoia Irrigation Project without the involvement of parent ministries and claimed credit. He does not launch the projects as an appropriate and official undertaking. To the contrary he is driven by an overriding, selfish and extraneous objective of promoting his egoistic ambitions to attain the office of President in 2022 by whatever means possible.

UNBRIDLED AMBITION

The Deputy President is definitely guilty of public misconduct and grave malpractices and has not lived up to the oath of office that he subscribed before assuming office. He has not brought honour to the nation and dignity to the office of Deputy President and has failed to promote public confidence in the integrity of the high office. He had rather rule Kenya than serve the people. He has not offered selfless service based solely on the public interest. He is not honest and his personal interests are in constant conflict with his public duties.

THIS STATE OF AFFAIRS leaves William Ruto with no option but resign from the office and position of Deputy President. He must shape up or ship out. He needs time and undivided attention to pursue the only thing and ambition that makes sense and has meaning in his life – Dream and Campaign for the 2022 presidential elections.

Barely hours after a Nairobi nominated Member of County Assembly lost her seat after missing plenary sittings for two years, a Jubilee senator has fiercely reprimanded Speaker Beatrice Elachi for declaring her seat vacant.

Nominated Jubilee Senator Millicent Omanga has jumped to the defense of the MCA, giving reasons as to why the MCA had missed the sittings.

Senator Omanga through her social media handles has posted a comprehensive statement backed with hospital records, revealing that 28-year-old Habiba Hussein has been in and out of hospital since she lost her newborn daughter in 2018.

“I am deeply shocked and saddened by media reports that I have come across by the speaker Nairobi City County Assembly and Hon. Alvin Palapala Mca accused of diverting bursary funds ment for needy students to a private company making fun of a tragic situation that has befallen a fellow woman and one of their colleagues, Hon. Habiba Hussein.

“As a woman, I do not understand how inhuman, selfish and insensitive some people can get, just to earn some cheap political mileage out of a tragedy.

“From the information and records in my possession, Hon. Habiba carried a challenging and complicated pregnancy to term, and delivered a baby girl Shadia, through a Caesarean Procedure, on November 21, 2018.

“Unfortunately, the baby was born with heart complications that are suspected to have arisen from the treatment the mother was undergoing during the pregnancy. Since Hon. Habiba could not undergo intense scanning that involved radiology during the pregnancy, she was put under medication for ulcers for most of the pregnancy duration, while that was not what she was suffering from.

“Despite the dedicated efforts by the doctors, Baby Shadia’s condition deteriorated due to a blocked A-V valve, and she died a few hours after birth, on the 23rd November 2018.

“Nothing is as devastating to any mother as the loss of child, and the death of Baby Shadia only aggravated the illness of Hon. Habiba.

“Ever since, Hon. Habiba has been admitted to hospital severally, the first time being barely four (3) months after delivery, when she underwent a surgery to remove her gallbladder and fibroids.

“During his 17 months sickness Hon. Habiba has been in and our of different hospitals under the care of the following Doctors: Dr. Sequiera Evan Gynaecologist (Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi), Dr. Nathan Gatheru Thagana Gyaenogolost (Nairobi Hospital), Dr. Zipporah Gatheru (paedetrician who took care of the baby after delivery), Dr. Naomi Gachara (baby Shadia’s cardiologist before she died), Dr Mahesh Chudasama (Mombasa Hospital), Dr. Swabra Swaleh (Premier Hospital, Nyali), alongside many others. Detailed medical reports are hereby attached to show their “interactions with Hon. Habiba and the subsequent treatments.

“It therefore breaks my heart, as a mother and a woman, when people choose to politicize the pain and agony that Hon. Habiba has undergone in the last two years, simply because they have been implicated in stealing bursary funds meant for poor and orphaned children.

“To attack a woman, for simply being woman, is not only unacceptable but almost Satanic.

“That is why, for me, it is beyond comprehension how Hon. Beatrice Elachi, the Nairobi City County Assembly Speaker and a fellow woman, allowed such a reckless and irresponsible statement to be made on the floor of the House, without a bother to demand for authentication of the wild claims that were made. To me, on this particular issue, she comes off as the classic example of women being the worst enemies of their fellow women, and she owed the women of Kenya an apology.

“As the Nairobi City County Nominated Senator, I demand an unconditional apology from the Kitisuru Ward MCA, Hon. Alvin Palala, and his associates for degrading, disrespecting and demeaning women, especially at their most painful and vulnerable time.

“The least Hon. Habiba deserves is support and sympathy as she recovers from the painful loss of her child, while she undergoes her treatment, where she was admitted in hospital as recently as February 2020.

“This culture of attacking women is not only barbaric, but unacceptable in the 21st Century, and I wish to urge all leaders and Kenyans at large to desist from this despicable trend of diverting attention from the real issues by dragging innocent women into their woes.

“Let Hon. Palapala and his ilk refund all the monies they have stolen from innocent orphans and poor children, and keep women out of their shenanigans.

“I also call upon the DCI and EACC to move with speed and get to the bottom of the bursary scandal in Nairobi that has been unearthed through the trending voice clip.

“My prayers are with Hon. Habiba and her family. May God comfort and heal you.

“Hon. Millicent Omanga, NOMINATED SENATOR, NAIROBI CITY COUNTY.”

A Tanga Tanga Member of Parliament has claimed that there are people in government who have been deployed to propel ODM party leader Raila Odinga to State House come 2022.

Speking on Tuesday at Kiarithaini village within his constituency during the burial of businessman Robert Kabiru, the Mathira lawmaker Rigathi Gachagua said Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) rallies had been turned into platforms to advance Odinga’s political ambitions.

“These BBI rallies have been turned into platforms for Raila campaigns. It is no longer about building bridges but destroying them. Raila has succeeded in hijacking our agenda as the Jubilee Party,” said Gachagua.

He cautioned residents of Mt Kenya region will not buy the trick and will resist any attempt to force a Raila presidency.

Gachagua said the region was only keen on a BBI outcome which will guarantee them minimum prices on tea and coffee.

He faulted National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi’s proposals for the abolition of the popular vote and its replacement with a party-list proportional representation system.

“I don’t agree with my Speaker on his observation that we should embrace party-based polls where the party that wins names president and his deputy. This cannot happen in Kenya where electorate have constitutional mandate to choose who they want as their leaders,” said Gachagua.

He also urged the government scale up security for Deputy President William Ruto in the wake of his claims that he is being targeted for elimination by unnamed people in government.

Flamboyant City Lawyer Donald Kipkorir has revealed why COTU boss Francis Atwoli breaks his expensive iPhones when angry.

Taking to his social media handles on Monday afternoon, lawyer Kipkorir revealed that Atwoli medicates when he breaks his phones when he gets pissed off.

According to the city lawyer, Psychology approves Catharsis, which is venting anger on inanimate objects.

He says people like Atwoli who employ Catharsis for anger management will never assault human beings and, he is ahead in the medical curve.

“In breaking his iPhones when angry, Francis Atwoli is actually medicating. Psychology approves Catharsis, which is venting anger on inanimate objects. People like Atwoli who employ Catharsis for anger management will never assault human beings & is ahead in the medical curve,” tweeted the lawyer.

The lawyer’s remarks come barely hours after a video showing Atwoli throwing away his phone during a media presser went viral.

Atwoli is seen in the video hurling his phone on the ground when addressing allegations around ex-CS Rashid Echesa’s visit to DP William Ruto’s office.

The Labour boss questioned why Deputy President William Ruto told the country that he did not know if Echesa and his co-accused had access to his Harambee Annex office.

“The DP wants to tell us that Echesa and other foreigners were in his office more than 1 hour and 22 minutes and no one told him that they were in his office…yet that is the second-highest office in the land?” he posed before invoking his infamous ‘Washenzi’ refrain.

However, this is not the first time Atwoli was throwing away his phone.

In an interview with Citizen TV’s Jeff Koinange last year, the COTU boss caught angry after someone kept on calling him while he was on air, took his phone, switched it off and threw it away.

Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti has flown to the United States to get a three-week FBI training.

Kinoti flew to the US last week to attend the Federal Bureau Investigations (FBI) executive training.

The training will go down at at the National Executive Institute.

He is the only detective from Africa considered for the high level training with the other four attendees drawn from Canada and Australia.

At least 15 top FBI officials will take the participants through strategic leadership development and current affairs during the three-week training.

The attendees – according to NEI’s website – must be heads of departments with more than 500 sworn officers serving a population of at least 250,000.

The first two weeks of the training will be held in Washington before the attendees are taken to Glasgow for the final bit of the course.

“NEI consists of three one-week training sessions throughout the year. Two of the sessions are hosted by the FBI Academy; the third is typically conducted overseas in concert with our global partners,” NEI’s website states.

“One of the most valuable aspects of NEI is the range and diversity of the executives, who bring immensely different levels of experience and perspectives.”

NEI has provided leadership development for bureau executives and for the heads of the largest law enforcement agencies in the United States and overseas.

Since 1976, more than 1,000 law enforcement executives have graduated from the institute.

Upon graduation, each executive is invited to join the NEI Associates (NEIA), a non-profit foundation that continues the education of these executives and sponsors various research projects.

Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen has dared Raila Odinga led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party to bring on Deputy President William Ruto’s impeachment motion.

The Elgeyo Marakwet senator on Sunday told off Siaya Senator James Orengo over a plot to sponsor an impeachment motion against the DP.

Taking to Twitter, Murkomen dared ODM party to bring the motion to the senate further assuring that it would not see the light of day.

The Elgeyo Marakwet Senator castigated ODM saying that they have confirmed the plans that the deputy president hinted on Saturday during the burial of Sergent Kipyegon Kenei in Rongai, Nakuru County.

“The good thing with ODM is that they can’t hide these things for too long. They have confirmed the plans that the DP hinted yesterday. BRING IT ON!” Reads Murkomen’s tweet.

On Saturday, Orengo hinted at sponsoring an impeachment motion against Ruto over investigations into Sh39 billion arms scandal and Sergent Kenei’s murder.

Daily Nation reported that Orengo, Raila’s close ally is considering a constitutional means in dealing with the DP.

“Watch this space. In two weeks we will start the process that will see us deal with him,” the daily publication quoted Orengo who was speaking in Siaya at the funerals of University of Nairobi’s Prof Gilbert Ogutu and politician Omolo Rading’s son.

Ruto on Saturday turned onto the government, accusing its leadership of elaborate scheme to finish him off.

The DP accused unnamed government officials of boasting that he will not be around for long.

He claimed that the murder of his aid Kenei was a double ploy to set him up against his community while also scandalizing his office.

Murkomen and other like-minded politicians have been accusing the ODM party of using BBI to undermine DP Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.

While voicing support for the BBI, United Clergy Alliance Chairperson Bishop Margaret Wanjiru has asked
the government to release the youth from the burden of Higher Education Loans Board by clearing off their loans.

She highly condemned it terming it as unfair to our jobless youths yet the government has been clearing parastatals and other companies from debts worth billions.

In another statement, this religious leaders want the constitution amended to allow churches to establish a self-regulatory law that will govern their operations.

In a move to control the high number of churches, the government froze registration of new churches, vetted existing ones and shut down entities that did not meet the legal threshold to operate.

Redeemed Gospel Church Presiding General overseer Bishop Kepha Omae proposed equal treatment for all religious and faith-based organisations.

Busia Senator Amos Wako, who is a BBI committee member and former attorney general, said they support religious self-regulation, but it should have a legal mechanism and structure in enforcing the law.

Deputy President Dr William Ruto has hit back at DCI boss George Kinoti over the murder of his Harambee Annex office guard, sergent Kipyegon Kenei.

Kenei, the policeman who was on duty when ex-Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa and his fake arms dealers held an illegal meeting at the DP’s office, was killed by powerful individuals.

DCI Kinoti on Thursday played Harambee Annex CCTV footages to the media, noting that Kenei was murdered, and his killers stage managed the scene to look like a suicide.

“We have identified the persons of interest and that will be the focus of our investigation going forward,” he told journalists moments after he addressed a lengthy press conference where he played CCTV footage showing Kenei’s last moments.

However, DP Ruto while hitting back at Kinoti said that the truth must be found on why, how and who killed sergent Kenei.

Ruto says Kenei’s family, his office and Kenyans want the truth and justice, and that culprits held to account.

According to the second in command, the drama, distortions, convenient half-truths and the smear campaigns in sponsored headlines amounts to criminal cover up.

“The truth MUST be found on WHY, HOW,and WHO killed Sgt kenei. The family, ODP,and kenyans want the TRUTH & JUSTICE and culprits held to account. The drama, distortions, convenient half-truths and the smear campaigns in sponsored headlines amounts to criminal cover up,” Ruto tweeted.

According to the investigators, Kenei had nothing to fear and was ready to spill the beans about what he knew regarding the fake arms deal that threw the DP’s office into the limelight.

Evidence gathered by the homicide detectives show Kenei’s house revealed a scenario of a gruesome murder stage-managed to look like a suicide.

Sergent Kipyegon Kenei, an officer who was on duty at Deputy President William Ruto’s office at the time ex-Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa held an illegal meeting at the Harambee Annex office, was murdered in cold blood, DCI George Kinoti has revealed.

According to CCTV footages played before media cameras on Thursday afternoon at DCI headquarters, Sergent Kenei was murdered, with his killers stage managing the incident to make it look like suicide.

Reports have described Kenei as a key witness in the ongoing Sh39 billion fake arms deal investigation involving Echesa and three others.

Sergent Kenei was found dead on February 20 at his house in Villa Franca Estate in Imara Daima.

A post-mortem carried out on his body on February 26 revealed that he died from a single gunshot wound.

Kenei was killed by a bullet that was fired from a pistol held to his chin.

DCI Kinoti has revealed that the impact of the single gunshot to his head could have sent him falling on the bed, instead, he was found on the floor.

Further CCTV footage shows Ex-Sports CS Rashid Echesa and other suspects were in DP Ruto’s Harambee Annex office for 1hr 22mins and not 23 mins, DCI boss Kinoti says.

Additionally, evidence has shown that the suicide note collected from his house on the day he was murdered did not bear his handwriting.

“Everything was well planned to appear like a suicide. Sending money to his family, leaving behind a suicide note and so forth but it’s a clear case of murder,” a detective privy to the ongoing investigations told the Nation.

The preliminary probe shows Kenei’s murder was planned for a long time.

Kinoti further noted that the policeman wanted to record a statement on the fake arms deal.

Tanga Tanga senator has tore into Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after the commission said Polycarp Igathe is still Nairobi’s Deputy Governor.

The electoral agency on Thursday said it is not aware the the former governor Mike Sonko’s deputy resigned from the county job.

According to IEBC, Igathe’s resignation letter never reached them.

Igathe was elected to the position of Deputy Governor Nairobi City County in the 2017 general elections on the Jubilee political party ticket, as Mike Sonko’s running mate.

He resigned abruptly on 12 January 2018, citing lack of trust from his boss.

Kericho senator Aaron Cheruiyot has tore into the Wafula Chebukati led commission for saying that Igathe never resigned.

The Same @IEBCKenya that recently cleared a nominee to be vetted by Nairobi CA for Dep Gov now says that as per their records Igathe is still DG .Anybody still denying that Bangi na Uchawi imetulemea huku Kenya ?” the lawmaker posted on twitter.

“Dear Nairobians, it is with a heavy heart that I resign my seat as elected Deputy Governor of Nairobi City County effective 1pm on 31st Jan 2018.

“I regret I have failed to earn the trust of the Governor to enable me to drive Admin & Management of the county. Without fear, favour or ill will I step down to avoid abusing or betraying my oath of office to Kenyans, Nairobians and my family. Thank you for the encouraging support given to me so far,” he said in a post on his Twitter account.

The statement by IEBC that Igathe never resigned has caused an uproar, with some politicians question the integrity of the commission.

Last month, the electoral commission cleared Anne Kananu Mwenda to be vetted by Nairobi County Assembly for the DG job.

This has made several Kenyans to question the integrity of the electoral agency, with some speculating that there must be something cooking.

Some argue that there is a plot to get Igathe back to City hall to take over as city boss.

As race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta hots up day by day, a Jubilee party lawmaker seems to have let the cat out of the bag.

2022 political plans on Tuesday unfolded when Kiambu Women Representative Gathoni Wamuchomba took the microphone at the late veteran politician Nginyo Kariuki’s funeral.

The woman MP hinted that Central Kenya will support Baringo Senator Gideon Moi for the 2022 presidency.

The lawmaker allied to the Kieleweke wing of Jubilee, vowed to support the son of the the late retired president Daniel Moi in a possible power shake up ahead of the upcoming general election.

While heaping praises on the veteran politician Nginyo, Wamuchomba disclosed she was advised to support Gideon for the country’s top seat by the late politician.

“After the handshake, I looked for Nginyo Kariuki on phone and asked him whether to support the process or not. He told me if Gideon Moi is involved then you should support it. To you Gideon I want you to know we got the message and all our eyes are on you. Please revive KANU and we shall be with you,” she said.

During the burial of the late former President Mzee Daniel Moi, Gideon was handed the Mzee’s famous ‘rungu ya nyayo’, taking over Mzee Moi’s political mantle.

Gideon will now have to battle it out with Deputy President Dr William Ruto for the control of Rift Valley region.
