President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday received the Building Bridges Initiative report.

Uhuru who is in Kisii County received the report by the Yusuf Haji-led team after months of waiting.

Sources close to the team revealed that the report is likely to be launched on Sunday.

The BBI report is expected to change the country’s governance structure, including the creation of the Office of Prime Minister and two deputies.

This, in turn, has caused mixed reactions from politicians who are supporting and opposing yet they have not seen what is in the report.

During Mashujaa day on October 20, President Uhuru Kenyatta made a strong case for a referendum to approve changes to the Constitution before the 2022 General Elections.

The President appeared to set the stage for the release of the Building Bridges Initiative report expected to recommend the expansion of the Executive.

Uhuru said the changes would entrench political inclusion, equity in the distribution of opportunities and resources, and end violence every electoral cycle.

Uhuru, Raila, Ruto

Renown political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has explained how Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga will easily defeat Deputy President William Ruto come 2022.

Taking to his official twitter account on Thursday October 1, 2020, Ngunyi used the 2013 and 2017 general elections to explain how the former Prime Minister will have an easy fight should he vie against DP Ruto in 2022.

Ngunyi noted that the African Union envoy had a total vote of 44% in both the 2013 and 2017 general elections.

According to Ngunyi, Raila needs only 6% of the votes from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Mt Kenya backyard to win in 2022.

In this case, Ngunyi explained that President Kenyatta only needs to get 6% of GEMA to make Raila the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya.

He went on to claim that the small percentage need is only a half of Kiambu County, or Akorino religious women only.

According to Mutahi Ngunyi, President Kenyatta does not need the whole of Kikuyu community to make Raila President.

He further claimed that DP Ruto cannot win against Raila even after getting an 84% of GEMA votes.

“Raila had 44% of the VOTE in 2013 and 2017. It is still INTACT. Uhuru needs 6% of GEMA to make Raila President. This is half of KIAMBU or AKORINO women ONLY. Uhuru DOES NOT NEED Kikuyus. In fact, 84% of GEMA can follow RUTO if they want to. And they will still FAIL! Simple MATH” tweeted Mutahi Ngunyi.

The 2022 general presidential contest  has  been viewed  by many Kenyans as a tough race between DP Ruto and the Orange party leader.

However, Raila has on several occasions denied having declared any interest in the 2022 presidential race, but his allies have been pushing him to vie.

Some political leaders allied to DP Ruto have claimed that Raila wants to use the famious Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) to climb to power come 2022.

The DP on the other hand has been traversing the country to popularize his Presidential quest, with the youth being his main target.

He has been empowering the youth through donation of equipment to support their projects, with donation of wheelbarrows and handcarts attracting criticism from his critics.

Raila Odinga-led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has suspended Kilifi North Member of Parliament Owen Baya.

The party in a statement on Saturday said the National Executive Council had resolved to suspend the legislator after he recently showed disloyalty to the Orange party.

“NEC also approved the SUSPENSION of Hon. Owen Baya from the NEC following his public utterances that have been unkind to the party and its leadership. The Disciplinary Committee will take up the matter and make a verdict,” reads a tweet by the ODM party.

Baya was suspended after a two-day retreat at Stoni Athi Resort in Athi River.

As a result of the suspension, the MP  had also been relieved of his post as the party’s deputy organising secretary.

“Cognisant of the central role that the party’s NEC plays in the management of the party and the need to maintain the probity of its deliberations, the NEC resolved to suspend Hon. Owen Baya, the MP for Kilifi North from membership of this critical organ and from his position as the Deputy Organisisng Secretary given his recent utterances and conduct that have cast doubt on his commitment to this party and its onbjectives,” ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said.

On Wednesday, Baya was part of a delegation of Coast MPs that escorted Feisal Abdallah Bader, an aspirant for the Msambweni parliamentary seat, to meet Deputy President William Ruto at his Karen office.

His woes seem to have escalated after he accompanied the Msambweni aspirant to DP’s Karen home.

ODM will be fielding a candidate in the Msambweni by-election and has reached an agreement with Jubilee not to field their candidate.

DP Ruto however contested his party’s move saying he would have wanted to have a candidate battle with ODM.

Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has claimed that Deputy President William Ruto’s Tanga Tanga faction of the ruling Jubilee party will benefit big should President Uhuru kenyatta dissolve parliament as per Chief Justice David Maraga’s advice.

Taking to his official Twitter account this morning, the flamboyant lawyer claimed that should Prrsident Kenyatta hid to the advice, Tanga Tanga will have a super majority of about 70% in both houses of the parliament.

Ahmednasir went ahead to argue that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga will be the biggest loser.

According to the lawyer, Raila’s Orange party will lose its popularity, to an extend of jut being a Luo Nyanza political party.

“If H.E Uhuru DISSOLVES parliament in-line with the HERETIC constitutional advice by CJ Maraga, TangaTanga will have a super majority of about 70% in both Houses…and odm will become a Luo Nyanza party…FACT,” he tweeted.

Maraga on Monday September 21, 2020 made history yet again, advising President Kenyatta to dissolve Parliament for failing to implement the two-thirds gender rule.

In a new first, the Chief Justice handed a guilty verdict against the entire cast of Parliament for failing to carry out their constitutional mandate despite clear warnings.

Yesterday, Justice Maraga said despite the court orders, Parliament remained defiant.

According to him, even when he gave the speakers chance to defend themselves in a petition filed by Law Society of Kenya, Fredrick Gichanga, Toili, Stephen Owoko, John Wangai and David Sudi, they never filed submissions despite raising objections.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) communication director Philip Etale has revealed the unknown details the Orange party leader Raila Odinga told Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno when they met at nominated MP Wilson Sossion’s home in Bomet County.

Taking to his official twitter account on Sunday September 20, 2020, Etale claimed that Raila had reminded the controversial lawmaker how he had catered for his University education’s fees.

Etale further claimed that the former Prime Minister described Ng’eno as his son.

According to Etale, Raila said, the only thing he had not asked MP Ng’eno to do and which he regrets was to have good manners and have respect for other people.

“Baba reminded Emurua Dikirr MP Hon. Johanna Ng’eno how he paid his University fees and described him as his son. He said, the only thing he had not asked him to do and which he regrets was to have good manners and have respect for other people,” he tweeted.

Ng’eno hit headlines early this month after making scathing remarks against President Uhuru Kenyatta on his relationship with his deputy William Ruto.

Ng’eno, while addressing a gathering in his constituency, asked President Kenyatta to dissolve government if he couldn’t work harmoniously with his deputy.

He further sensationally accused Rift Valley Regional Coordinator George Natembeya of fueling ethnic clashes in the region.

He then got arrested at Mogondo in his constituency where he had gone to inspect a local technical institute.

Weeks after Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga estimated the cost of carrying out a referendum at Ksh2 billion, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has come out to dismiss the figure, saying that the cost is imposiible.

Raila during the recent swearing-in of ODM’s National Election Board and Disciplinary Committee members said the Building Bridges Initiative referendum should not cost more than Sh2 billion.

Raila went further to insist that the referendum must be done before the 2022 general elections since the country has all the resources required for the exercise to successfully take place.

However, IEBC Commissioner Boya Molu on Friday said it will cost not less than Sh10 billion to carry out the exercise in the country.

Molu who spoke during commemoration of the international day of democracy hosted by Centre of Multiparty Democracy Kenya said going by the last presidential repeat elections, a referendum will not cost less than Sh10 billion.

According to Molu, the commission needs to hire not less than 50,000 vehicles on election day, and it is impossible for them to get a vehicle for less than Sh10,000.

He said the commission will also need to hire 350,000 poll officials on election day.

The officials include Presiding Officers and their deputies, clerk’s, at least two police officers for every polling station.

“I may not be able to give you exact figure but going by the last presidential repeat elections, a referendum will not cost less than Sh10 billion. On election day you hire not less than 50,000 vehicles and you cannot get a vehicle for less than Sh10,000. We also have to hire 350,000 poll officials on election day,” Molu was quoted by a local daily to have said.

Renown activist David Ndii has moved to court seeking to stop the constitutional amendments through the famous Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

Ndii together with four others who have filed the case want the matter certified as urgent.

The other activists who have filed the case against BBI are Jerotich Seii, Ikal Angelei, Ciru Gikonyo and James Gondi.

They also want the matter to be immediately sent to Chief Justice David Maraga for the constitution of a three-judge bench to hear it.

They have sued the chief government advisor, the Speaker of National Assembly Justin Muturi, Speaker of Senate Ken Lusaka and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

Deputy President William Ruto’s allies had been earlier reported to be at an advanced stage of filing a petition to stop the BBI process, which is expected to culminate in a referendum before 2022 general elections.

A local daily had on Wednesday September 16 reported that Ruto fears if he is defeated in a referendum too close to the election, then the result will give momentum to his rivals who will ride on the plebiscite to win the 2022 polls.

This will not be the first time an attempt will be made to disband the BBI.

A similar petition was lodged unsuccessfully with the High Court by former presidential candidate Akuru Aukot of the Thirdway Alliance.

Aukot had argued the initiative was unconstitutional and a waste of taxpayers’ money.

High Court judge John Mativo ruled, however, that President Kenyatta exercised executive powers that cannot be questioned by the court.

Ruto has publicly indicated he might rally his troops to oppose any amendments to the Constitution.

The second in command has on several occasions, during public rallies argued that a few individuals are planning to create political seats for themselves through BBI and referendum, a move he said he was not going to allow.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga have however, maintained that BBI is about unity and making Kenya better again.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga’s son Raila Odinga Junior was on Wednesday September 16, 2020 forced to apologise over a controversial tweet in which he had hit at some of the Orange party leaders.

His apology that was followed with a clarification of his tweet came just hours after ODM chairman John Mbadi appeared in a heated interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday night.

Raila Junior, the former Prime Minister’s third born child had launched a scathing attack on his father’s party and its officials, accusing them of losing focus.

He also blasted party director of elections Junet Mohamed’s stand on the arrest of Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi.

“We as ODM need to find our way back to basics. We are not just about private jets and slay queens whilst abusing rival politicians,” reads part of the tweet.

ODM, he said, has a development agenda clearly outlined in its manifesto. He also urged leaders to focus on service delivery, democratic space and protecting private citizen rights.

While hitting back at Raila Junior, Mbadi in an interview with Waihiga Mwaura claimed that Raila Junior is not an ODM member nor does he hold any position in the party.

On Wednesday morning, Kenyans were surprised to wake up to Raila Junior’s tweet apologising.

He said that as an ordinary member of the Orange party, his views are his won and not that of the party. He went ahead to note that his views were not targeting any leaders and apologised for any misunderstanding he might have caused.

“CLARIFICATION as an ordinary ODM member my views are my own and not that of PARTY, 2. I’m grateful to ODM for allowing democratic space in which different views and opinions are expressed, 3 My views were not targeting any leaders & I apologize for any misunderstanding caused,” he tweeted.

Deputy President William Ruto is planning to tour Kisumu and Migori counties just days after his Kisii tour.

The second in command has been traversing regions perceived to be ODM leader Raila Odinga’s strongholds, with an intention of popularising himself ahead of 2022 succession politics.

The Kisumu tour is tentatively scheduled for next week and preparations for the rally began in earnest Monday. Ruto on Monday received a delegation of select people from Siaya, Kibra and Kisumu at his Karen home in Nairobi.

The delegation was led by Eliud Owalo who announced his decision to join the Ruto 2022 presidential camp. Owallo ditched Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC last month.

Raila has enjoyed near fanatical support in Nyanza over the years and it will remain to be seen if Ruto can make any significant forays into the region.

While in Kisumu, Ruto plans to grace church functions and to dish out goodies to the youth and women.

In Migori, he plans to visit areas where he has enjoyed some support and also show support for embattled Governor Okoth Obado who is facing various charges ranging from murder to corruption.

ODM has asked its 42 MCAs to impeach Obado after he was charged with graft and barred from office.

Both Ruto and Raila are seen as the front-runners in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In what is shaping up to be a game of numbers, the DP has focused his attention strategically at four regions that have traditionally voted for Raila.

Coast, Nyanza, Nairobi, and Western are on Ruto’s radar while on the other hand he is attempting to make inroads in Mt Kenya.

The DP was last in Luo Nyanza in December 2018 when he shared a podium with the former Prime Minister in Kisumu county in a function that was officiated by Uhuru . Will he manage to win the hearts of the Luo Nyanza voters with his hustler nation narrative?

Former Raila Odinga’s political strategist Eliud Owalo has joined Deputy President William Ruto’s political camp, weeks after ditching Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC).

Former Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale on Monday September 14, 2020 took to his official twitter account to reveal that DP Ruto had received Owalo into his camp at his Karen home in Nairobi.

Khalwale further revealed that former Machakos senator Johnson Muthama and Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua were also in attendance at the event.

“Today the Hustlers’ Clerk, @WilliamsRuto, at his Karen residence, received @EliudOwalo into the Hustlers Movement. @nduyamuthama and Hon Gachagua and I also attended,” Khalwale tweeted.

Owalo ditched Raila’s ODM party last year, just a few months to Kibra parliamentary by-elections.

He then joined Mudavadi’s ANC side where he got a ticket to vie for the Kibra parliamentary seat. Mudavadi traversed the constituency with him in search of votes, but he did not make it after ODM’s Bernard Imran Okoth emerged victorious.

About a month ago, Owalo ditched ANC.

In a letter copied to the Registrar of Political Parties, Owalo said that his exit was necessitated by the need to create ample space within the party.

He stated that the move will allow the party “strategically position itself effectively in the operational environment and craft a suitable road map moving forward without feeling suffocated by my views and suggestions.”

Thanking the party stakeholders with special mention to Mudavadi, Owalo who runs a management consultant firm, wished the party well.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga on Monday September 7, 2020 held a meeting with Kakamega County senator Cleophas Malala at his Capitol Hill office in Nairobi.

Taking to his official twitter account after the meeting, the former prime minister revealed that their meeting focused on the revenue stalemate at the senate.

Raila also revealed that they held discussions revolving around the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

“Held discussions with Senator Cleophas Malala of Kakamega this afternoon focusing on the Revenue Sharing stalemate and BBI,” Raila tweeted.

Over the weekend, Raila hit out at the  Kakamega Senator after he rejected the third-generation county revenue allocation formula.

The former Prime Minister held a meeting with a section of ODM officials from Kakamega County at the county Governor Wycliffe Oparanya home.

The delegation had spent the night at Oparanya’s residence having arrived there on Saturday, September 5.

Raila questioned whether Senator Malala was elected to represent the people of Kakamega after rejecting the revenue sharing formula.

The party leader argued that when one is elected, they are supposed to represent their people, saying that the senator said he doesn’t want to deny funds to people from other counties whom he is not representing but only the people of Kakamega.

He added that Malala rejects the formula that will have his county getting more funds and noted that it’s not that he loves people from other counties but his own selfish interest.

Raila further called on the Senate to come up with a lasting solution to solve the altercation that he said is now affecting all counties.

Senator Malala had vowed to reject the formula at all costs after he was arrested on Monday, August 17, together with his colleagues Christopher Langat (Bomet) and Steve Lelegwen (Samburu)

Malala said the arrest was a state intimidation over their stand on the controversy surrounding the Counties’ revenue formula.

Raila Odinga-led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has come up with a new strategy to fight embattled Migori County governor Okoth Obado.

ODM in a statement signed by its chairman John Mbadi on Thursday afternoon revealed that it was going to furnish the government with the names of Obado’s allies who have been engaging in dirty deals at the County government.

The Orange party said it was going to forward the names of Migori County CECs, directors of various departments, contractors, Chief officers, MCAs, officials and suppliers who are currently involved in raising money and diverting public funds to bribe MCAs and finance violence in Migori.

ODM said that as soon as they forward the names, they will ensure that police arrest the said individuals so that law and order is maintained.

Obado, a long-time friend of Deputy President William Ruto, has openly dared ODM leader Raila Odinga to bring on his impeachment motion, saying the party has no numbers to kick him out.

According to Obado, ODM placed MCAs in a closed meeting and intimidated them.

Obado is a long-time friend of DP Ruto dating from the time of the governor’s tenure at the defunct Kenya Sugar Board when Ruto was the Minister for Agriculture.

He has hosted the DP several times against ODM’s wishes, including shortly after he was released from prison on bail over the murder of his pregnant girlfriend Sharon Otieno. The case is ongoing.

Then, he alluded to ODM’s hand in his woes and asked his constituents to allow him to work with Ruto.

For the impeachment to sail through, the motion will need approval of at least 43 members in the house which has 57 MCAs.

ODM has 41 MCAs, seven are independent, Jubilee Party has three, Ford Kenya two while PPOK has one.

Out of the 37 ODM elected MCAs who attended the meeting, 14 refused to sign up for the impeachment bid and only 23 appended their signatures despite persuasion from the party’s top leadership.

Mbadi who chaired the meeting confirmed that 23 signed up but stated that only five refused.

Mbadi, speaking on Wednesday morning – said out of 41 ODM MCAs in Migori, four skipped the function with apology for being sick and 23 “willingly without any intimidation signed and agreed to the impeachment.”

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party communication director Philip Etale has dragged Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua into events that led to the rigging of elections in 2007.

Taking to his official twitter account on Tuesday August 18, 2020, Etale revealed how Karua was used to block Raila Odinga from accessing KICC, where elections were being rigged from.

Etale noted that he was a senior reporter at Citizen TV by the time, saying that he witnessed how Martha Karua was being driven in a maroon Toyota V-8 and stopped to block Raila’s convoy to KICC on the evening of election theft.

He went further to accuse the woman leader of yelling at the former Prime Minister like a kid.

“I was a senior reporter @citizentvkenya in 2007. I witnessed@MarthaKarua, being driven in a maroon V-8 guzzler stop & block @RailaOdinga‘s convoy to KICC on the evening of Election Theft. She yelled at RAO like a kid. I have never forgotten this. Mama, stop playing a good mama,” Etale tweeted.

However, Karua in her response denied the allegations, arguing that Etale was peddling some paid falsehood. She also wondered how the ODM communication boss was still remembering the car she was being driven in.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader Raila Odinga has responded to Deputy President William Ruto’s outburts.

The second in command had on Tuesday August 11 claimed that there is a plan by the deep state and the system top rig him out in the 2022 general electuions.

The DP who was speaking at his Karen residence noted that he was unstoppable, saying that he would crash the so called deep state.

“I just want to tell them: ‘We’re waiting for you’. This system, this Deep State we are being told about, we are waiting for it. They’ll come with the system, but we will be there with the people and God and see who wins,” said Dr Ruto.

However, Raila on Thursday August 13 said he is unaware of the existence of an ineffable election results manipulator known as the Deep State.

“I, Raila Odinga, do not hold a position in the current Government. The Head of State is known, and the Deputy President is known. If you are talking of the Deep State, who is there? When someone talks about the Deep State [that is outside the Government circles], which one is it? We [in ODM] do not know about the Deep State,” said Raila Odinga while welcoming new members to ODM at Orange House in Nairobi on Thursday, August 13.

“From our previous experiences as ODM, we have learnt a lot; we know where we are coming from, and where we want to go,” he added.

After denying knowledge of the existence of a Deep State outside government circles, Raila was asked by a journalist to respond to his elder brother Oburu Odinga’s claim — that he (Raila) will be a beneficiary of the “system” in 2022 presidential race.

“Oburu Odinga is an individual [entitled to his own opinion],” the ODM leader replied, playing down the consequence of his brother’s remarks.

In late July 2020, Oburu Odinga said that the AU representative for Infrastructure lost previous presidential elections because he was not receiving the backing of the “system”.

“All these elections, we have been getting the most votes, but not ending up in State House because we did not have the system. But now in 2022, we have both the system and our votes which are always the majority — what more could we ask for?” Dr Oburu posed in a previous public address.

Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho on Wednesday August 12 also dismissed DP Ruto’s claims, arguing that there is nothing like the deep state in Kenya.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is reportedly laying the ground for former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth to be his successor in Mount Kenya region.

And to achieve this goal, Uhuru and his strategists are out to have the Building Bridges Initiative passed and have Kenneth as the prime minister.

The picking of Kenneth as prime minister is part of Uhuru’s power game to win back the confidence of his Kikuyu tribesmen who incidentally together with others, are not happy with his leadership and claim he has been pushing for BBI so as to remain in power as prime minister after his tenure as president ends.

Another claim has been that Uhuru and Raila Odinga are pushing for the PM slot to have the president’s younger brother Muhoho Kenyatta land the post.

Sources say that Uhuru is aware of the ramifications and backlash in his Mount Kenya region if he grooms his kinsman to succeed him, hence the emerging Kenneth factor in the region, and nationally.

According to a local daily, Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa is part of the power-sharing formula and he is likely to be in the Raila-Uhuru lineup after Musalia Mudavadi refused to play ball.

Eugene may go for the Kiminini parliamentary seat 2022 in his plan to land a cabinet seat being as it is that if BBI is adopted, CSs would be MPs.

Surprisingly, in the new lineup,it is said that Raila is out to block Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka getting a position and prefers Kitui Charity Ngilu.

Claims by ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna that Kalonzo is hijacking and staging a coup in the handshake deal clearly shows that they are uncomfortable with him.

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi is another key player in the political arrangement. In Central region anti-Uhuru sentiments, and to an extent entire Kenyatta family, are widespread and a rebellion is largely looming.

Perhaps, aware that the Mt Kenya ground is not accommodative to him, Uhuru is working on plan B to endear himself to the vote bloc.

Together with powerful Kikuyu tycoons working under the umbrella of Mount Kenya Foundation, they are slowly grooming Kenneth to take care of the region’s interests.

Uhuru sometimes back told Kikuyus the person he will pick to unify them will surprise them.

It is true, picking on Kenneth, is a surprise political card as in 2013, Kenneth ran for presidency opposing Uhuru.

In 2017, Kenneth ran for Nairobi governorship and was Uhuru preferred Jubilee candidate, but William Ruto, who read the move as aimed at positioning PK to play a key role in Uhuru succession, decided to back Mike Sonko.

Locked out of Jubilee, Kenneth went for the top city seat as an independent candidate. Those surrounding Uhuru mostly from Murang’a county wanted to have Kenneth as city governor controlling billions of shillings and number two politician after Uhuru and easily succeed him as regional kingpin.

They have never forgiven Ruto for blocking the plan in 2017 thus Mt Kenya having a leadership vacuum.

Just days after meeting at COTU boss Francis Atwoli’s home, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga, Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe and Siaya senator James Orengo met again over the weekend.

This time round they met at the home of Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya.

The leaders had attended the initiation ceremony of Munya’s son Karauni Munya.

Among the political issues discussed in the ceremony was the revenue sharing formula and the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

Raila was on Saturday, August 8, endorsed by Murathe for Presidency, a move which was later backed by Central organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli.

In an exclusive interview with KTN News, Murathe asked Kenyans to prepare for Raila’s presidency in 2022, comparing his situation to former South African President Nelson Mandela.

“We think it’s time Kenyans rewarded the years of struggle of Raila Amollo Odinga. They owe it to him. It’s like Mandela, and 2022 will be a Mandela Moment.

“And we would also like to tell him (Raila) to be a transitional president who will then nurture the young generation to take over in 2027,” stated Murathe.
