State of the Nation address

President William Ruto

Parliament will hold a special joint sitting on Thursday, November 20, 2025, for President William Samoei Ruto to deliver his annual address to the nation, in accordance with the Constitution.

In a joint notice issued on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Senate Speaker Amason Kingi confirmed that the sitting will take place in the National Assembly Chamber, Main Parliament Buildings, starting at 2:30 p.m.

The sitting has been convened pursuant to Article 132(1)(b) of the Constitution, which requires the President to address a special sitting of Parliament once every year to report on the measures taken and progress achieved in the realization of national values, governance, and public policy priorities.

“Members of Parliament and the general public are hereby notified that a Special Sitting of Parliament shall be held in the National Assembly Chamber, Main Parliament Building, Nairobi, on Thursday, 20th November 2025 at 2.30 p.m.,” the joint statement read.

The upcoming address will mark President Ruto’s third official address to the 13th Parliament, and comes amid heightened public interest in the government’s economic performance, governance record, and ongoing national reforms.

During such sittings, the Head of State traditionally outlines the government’s key achievements over the past year, legislative agenda, and future priorities, while reaffirming Kenya’s commitment to constitutional values and national unity.

Both Houses — the National Assembly and the Senate — will sit jointly for the event, which is expected to draw national attention and provide a comprehensive overview of the country’s direction as the fourth session of the 13th Parliament gets underway.

Security around Parliament Buildings is expected to be heightened ahead of the special sitting, with the public advised to follow proceedings live through national broadcasters and online platforms.
