Anthony Mugami is still coming to terms after winning Sh300,674 after staking sh10 on Bundesliga matches over the weekend.

Mugami placed his bet on Odibets, one of the most popular betting websites in Kenya, adding that he learnt of the firm through the media.

The Liverpool supporter stated that he is going to use the money to better the lives of his family.

A jovial Mr. Mugami mentioned that this was his first major win since he started betting a year ago and normally places bets of as low as sh3.

He thanked God for the win and said that he would continue to analyze more matches especially with English Premier League (EPL) return on the cards.

Early last month, one Meshack Ogutu won Ksh818, 496 on Odibets after placing a bet with Sh3.

The mechanic, who hails from Kisumu County, predicted four corners in four different matches on the Odibets’ e-sports platform which comprises FIFA simulated games.

The German Bundesliga became one of the first major soccer leagues to resume play amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The news caused a buzz among betting fanatics and football fans at large as most betting activities had been put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

One of Kenya’s biggest betting firms Odibets seized the opportunity to celebrate the return of football by launching an all-new user-friendly website for punters.

Speaking to journalists, Odibets Country marketing manager Aggrey Sayi said the company decided to launch the new website together with the return of Bundesliga as a way of giving back to the various punters who have always been with them all through.

“We have launched the new easy to use sports betting platform as a reward to our loyal punters who have stuck with us all through, the new website has interesting features that have made betting easy for the common mwananchi,” said Mr. Sayi.

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula has suffered a major blow in a first round of a battle to regain control of Ford Kenya.

On Friday June 5, 2020, the rival faction led by Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu and Kanduyi’s Wafula Wamunyinyi submitted the documents that the registrar of Political Parties needed to give them control of the party.

They successfully convinced the registrar that they had met the quorum needed for a Ford Kenya NEC to remove Wetangula as Party Leader and have him replaced by Wamunyinyi.

The Simiyu-led group had been asked to filed the proper form PP7 which they submitted on Friday.

Wetangula, on his part, has failed to raise the quorum needed to suspend Dr Eseli from the Secretary General Post and Wamunyinyi from the Party Leader’s seat.

“Our side met the quorum and we have submitted the duly signed form PP7, we are only waiting for the Registrar to seal his (Wetangula) fate,” Simiyu stated.

The Ford Kenya Secretary, however, complained that NEC members were being harassed and is expected to file a police complaint later today.

“Ford Kenya NEC members are being threatened in various ways including physical injury. In fact, once I finish addressing you I am heading to the police station to lodge a complaint,” Dr Eseli said.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has claimed that Deputy President William Ruto’s camp will take all the new political positions that are to be created under the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

Taking to his official Facebook account on Thursday evening, the controversial lawmaker claimed that the camp supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga’s BBI push expect DP Ruto’s camp to oppose them.

This, according to Moses Kuria, is the reason why Kieni MP Kanini Kega wants National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale removed.

Mr Kuria notes that the Kieleweke faction of Jubilee party want Duale removed because of not supporting the BBI.

However, the second term MP made a bold declaration, saying that Tanga Tanga faction of Jubilee will not oppose the BBI, unless it says that ballot papers will come pre-marked for Raila Odinga.

He has further dared the Uhuru team to bring on the BBI, so that it can be passed for both Ruto and the handshake camp to meet on the ballot come 2022.

He says that the current 2010 pure Presidential system was brought by Raila thinking he would be President.

Moses Kuria further, encouraged the BBI team to create the new posts under BBI and bring them on so that the Ruto camp can occupy all of them.

“From all these accusations that Hon Kanini Kega wants to remove Hon Aden Duale for not supporting the BBI process, it is clear that some people will use the BBI for some political Maccarthyism. They expect William Ruto and his team to oppose. I have bad news for you. The only BBI we will oppose is the one that says that ballot papers will come pre-marked for Raila Odinga. Hiyo ingine leteni tupitishe then tukutane kwa debe. Even the current 2010 pure Presidential system was brought by Raila thinking he would be President. Tengezeni hizo viti mnatengeneza. Tutapitisha na tuzikalie,” reads his Facebook post.

Kenyans are very anxious to hear from President Uhuru Kenyatta on the way forward, as current Covid-19 restrictions such as dusk to dawn curfew and cessation of movement comes to end tomorrow (Saturday June 6).

Uhuru is supposed to give an address to the nation, but what should Kenyans expect from him?

Well, many Kenyans expect him to address opening of the economy.

The National Security Council (NSC) chaired by the President Kenyatta is expected to meet (Friday June 5) to weigh the options ahead of Saturday’s national address.

However, Kenya has been recording triple digits in number of confirmed Covid-19 cases over the past weeks.

But basing on the President’s address when he unveiled a Sh54 billion economic stimulus package, Kenyans still have hopes.

The head of state hinted at easing the curfew and cessation of movement in select hotspots.

He urged personal responsibility when the restrictions are finally lifted, adding that Kenya could not be under lockdown forever.

The President also hinted at a partial reopening of schools, instructing the Education Ministry to look at measures to enable candidates to gradually resume learning.

Since schools were closed on March 15, the future of the candidates has been debated.

In an indication the government may start easing some restrictions from Saturday, Interior PS Karanja Kibicho on Wednesday told a radio station of plans to roll out phased reopening of the country’s economy.

Kenya imposed a nationwide dusk-to-dawn curfew on March 27. It was extended for a further 21 days on April 25. It was pushed forward another 21 days, which end on Saturday.

David Maraga & Uhuru

Chief Justice David Maraga has protested President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Executive Order that has re-organised various arms of the government.

The head of State in the order signed on May 11 assigned functions and institutions among ministries and state departments, superseding the Executive Order No. 1 of 2018 (Revised) issued in July 2018.

He specified functions of the constitutional commissions, independent offices, the Judiciary and Parliament.

Image

But in a statement issued on Thursday June 4, CJ Maraga has told off President Kenyatta on the executive order.

The statement that has been shared via Maraga’s official twitter handle, says the manner in which the judiciary operates cannot be the subject of an Executive Order.

Maraga further notes that the Judiciary is neither a ministry nor a government department which can be “organised” by an Executive Order.

President Kenyatta in his order placed the Judicial Service Commission under a state department.

CJ Maraga in his protest letter further notes that JSC is part of the Judiciary, a government branch that can’t be assigned functions by the executive.

He says an Executive order cannot restructure or assign functions to the other co- equal and co-substantial arms of government and independent commissions.

According to Maraga, the order only applies to and is indeed only capable of applying to the Executive branch of government.

The order, Maraga says, might have been subject to an error, which he hopes the executive arm of the government will come out clear and rectify, to avoid confusing the citizens.

Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa has lashed out at Deputy President William Ruto for his silence after Tuesday’s sacking of Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali as the Majority Whip.

Echesa, who is a known DP Ruto ally from Western Kenya says the second in command was in a better position to save Washiali from the axe, but he never did.

“I am sure if Mr Ruto had pleaded with the President, Mr Washiali would have survived the axe,” Mr Echesa said.

Whilst Echesa noted that rumors dragged COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli and Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya into Washiali’s sacking, he says the duo were never at State House during the Jubilee party Parliamentary Group meeting, but Ruto was there.

No photo description available.

He accuses Ruto of failing to raise a finger on the fate of Washiali.

“There has been talk about Mr Atwoli and Oparanya pushing for the changes, but I never saw them at State House. The person I saw was the Deputy President and unfortunately, he didn’t raise a finger on the fate of Mr Washiali”.

The former CS, who is facing criminal charges related to an arms procurement scam, spoke a day after the Jubilee Parliamentary Group meeting made changes to the majority leadership in the National Assembly.

While Majority Leader Aden Duale survived the purge, Mr Washiali and his deputy Cecily Mbarire were not lucky. Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe replaced Mr Washiali, while Igembe North MP Maoka Maore took over from Ms Mbarire.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to fire half of his cabinet by the end of next week, an MP allied to Deputy President William Ruto has claimed.

According to the Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, President Kenyatta’s Tuesday June 2 Parliamentary Group meeting at State House, Nairobi, was just but a start.

Through a social media post, Nyoro has warned his colleagues to expect a bloody week ahead.

The lawmaker claimed that some lawmakers were to be axed after the meeting, before the head of state embarks on his cabinet, saying that his team hoped the changes would help President Kenyatta grow the economy by double digits.

“Traps come with smiles.. Expect a bloody week ahead. It starts tomorrow with NA and by end of the week, half the cabinet will be gone. We hope the economy will now grow by 18% – with compliant rubber stamps, no more blame games. We are African and Africa is our Business,” he posted.

President Kenyatta, during the Jubilee meeting announced some changes to the party’s leadership in the National Assembly.

Aden Duale, the Majority Leader in the National Assembly survived the ongoing Jubilee Party purge.

Duale was among 212 MPs who attended the meeting convened by President Kenyatta.

During the meeting, National Assembly Majority Whip Benjamin Washiali and his deputy Cecily Mbarire were shown the door.

They were replaced by Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe and Igembe North MP Maoka Maore respectively.

During the same PG  President Uhuru  appointed Amos Kimunya to serve as the Secretary of the Jubilee Coalition Joint Parliamentary Group.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Communication director Philip Etale has told Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria to stop dragging the Orange party leader into his problems.

Taking to his official twitter account on Wednesday June 3, Etale told the controversial lawmaker that the former Prime Minister is not part of his woes in his own constituency.

Etale instead, has urged Moses Kuria to go back to his constituents, face them and pour out his heart instead of using Raila as a scapegoat for his problems.

“Hon. Moses Kuria, I know you have many problems back in Gatundu and Raila Odinga is not one of them. Please just face your constituent and pour out your heart instead of using Raila as a scapegoat,” he said.

Last month, a section of Nairobi ODM MPs hit out at Kuria for his constant attack on their party leader.

The lawmakers, led by ODM Nairobi County chairman and Makadara MP George Aladwa, called on Kuria to desist from divisive politics and instead focus on helping the government led by President Uhuru Kenyatta in fighting coronavirus pandemic as well as corruption.

Aladwa accused Mr Kuria of fighting any individual seen to be giving the backing the President needs to fight corruption and especially to recover stolen public money and land as well as deploy the recovered resources in the fight against Covid-19.

In January this year, Kuria, who referring to Raila as a ‘second wife’ to President Kenyatta, demanded respect for Tanga Tanga MPs.

Kuria has also, on several occasions, has accused Raila of being behind exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna’s tribulations.

The controversial MP has now claimed there is a plot to assassinate him for speaking the truth to power.

“So what after you kill me? Am I the last one who will speak the truth to you and your power?” Kuria posted on his social media account.

The MP, however, did not mention who intends to kill him but hinted that if the said assassination happens, it is because he is speaking the truth to power.

Kuria has on several occasions blasted the president’s leadership, saying Uhuru has changed since joining hands with his opponent Raila Odinga.

This has damaged his relationship with the people in Jubilee who supported him for re-election.

In the meantime, Uhuru seems to be at peace ever since having a handshake with Raila, with a leaked video showing them touring the Nairobi CBD at night to inspect projects.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday June 1, sent an open warning to his Deputy William Ruto.

The head of state during the Jubilee party parliamentary Group meeting at State House, Nairobi openly told DP Ruto and Jubilee MPs, on the type of Presidential candidate he will support in 2022.

In a meeting that lasted 24 minutes, Uhuru told the second in command and the ruling party’s parliamentarians that he will pass the baton to an heir who supports and values his legacy.

He said he will support a candidate who will build on his agenda, a statement that has been viewed by many as a veiled warning to his Deputy.

The remarks suggest his 2022 options are wide open despite pressure from Ruto’s allies for the Head of State to throw his weight behind the DP.

It was also an open warning to Ruto to stop early political campaigns and support the President’s legacy projects if he has to bank his 2022 presidential ambitions on the support of his boss.

In May 2018, at the height of aggressive countrywide campaigns by Ruto, Uhuru also told his Nyeri turf that his 2022 presidential choice will shock many.

Ruto’s allies then threw tantrums at the President accusing him of trying to renege on an earlier promise that the DP would take over.

Speaking  during a Jubilee Coalition Parliamentary Group meeting, a furious Uhuru maintained that there is no way he will rally behind anyone who will sabotage the agenda he has laid for the country.

MPs who attended the meeting held at State House in Nairobi said Uhuru warned that he will not dither from shoving away any politician who would undermine his leadership and national unity agenda.

“I will be happy to know that the person I will be passing the baton to is part of my agenda,” Uhuru told the 212 MPs.

The President’s remarks came after he enjoyed a night out with Opposition chief Raila Odinga after the Madaraka Day celebrations at State House during the day.

The duo arrived at the Nairobi CBD in the middle of the night and was seen inspecting the re-carpeting of roads by the Nairobi Metropolitan Service.

The remarks at the PG meeting attracted furious reactions from Ruto’s key ally, Soy MP Caleb Kositany, who said Kenyans have the constitutional mandate to elect their president.

The DP’s early campaigns have been seen as disruptive to the President’s agenda to build an enduring legacy.

Affordable housing, manufacturing, food security and universal healthcare are the four key pillars of the President’s legacy projects dubbed the Big Four Agenda.

Uhuru also has another nine-point agenda with Raila to cure the country’s recurrent challenges by embracing national unity as manifested by the handshake on March 9, 2018.

The BBI is expected to deliver that agenda.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has explained why Kenya needs a new constitution.

Speaking at State House during the 57th Madaraka day celebrations on Monday June 1, 2020, the head of state noted that referendum should happen to improve the current 2010 constitution.

The head of state said that the changes on the constitution are not meant to replace the current constitution.

He noted that he is only seeking to correct what Kenya did not achieve and get right in 2010.

He said that Kenya needs a constitution that will bring an end to cycles of violence that the nation has witnessed since 1992, and one that will deepen her democratic credentials and lead to an inclusive society.

“It is not a moment to replace it but to improve it. A moment that will correct what we did not get right in 2010. We need one that will bring an end to cycles of violence that we have witnessed since 1992. One that will deepen our democratic credentials and lead to an inclusive society,” he said.

While emphasizing on the need for constitutional amendments, Uhuru invoked the spirit of the late Tom Mboya

He referenced that the late Mboya cautioned against constitutional rigidity hence the need to make necessary changes that benefit the people.
