The late Kibra MP Ken Okoth’s body was on Saturday morning cremated at Kariokor in presence of his family. However, the legislator’s mother, Angeline Ajwang allegedly skipped the cremation of his son’s body.

According to Okoth’s nephew Evans Oluoch, Angeline was against the cremation idea. Oluoch who spoke to Citizen TV said that Oluoch’s mother insisted up to the last minute that his body should be buried.

The mother is was also allegedly not involved in the cremation plans.

“Actually, the family did not meet because if the family met then Ken’s mum should have been there. If the family met, some of the relatives should have been there.Unfortunately, we just got the news yesterday on TV when Sifuna said that the family had agreed to cremate Ken and I’m really shocked because even his mum was never involved in this.” he remarked.

Oluoch further revealed that ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga had agreed to provide a chopper that would carry Okoth’s body. However, this was not to be.

“Plans were already underway and everything was set.The villagers were waiting. Some of the relatives did not come to Nairobi because they knew very well that the body is going to Kabondo. To our surprise, everything just changed last evening. We heard that the body is going to be cremated yet Ken’s mum fully disagreed. She really wanted the body to be buried next to her house,” he added.

He explained that the decision to cremate the deceased lawmaker was carried out by two family members together with his wife, Monica Lavender Okoth.

Fallen Kibra MP Hon. Ken Okoth’s remains have already been cremated this morning in accordance with his wishes and in the presence of his family.

Taking to twitter Saturday morning, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party said that his family was present during cremation.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, a Spokesperson for the family, who is also their legal representative in a case filed at the Milimani Law Courts by Ann Thumbi who claimed to be a mistress to the deceased had revealed on Friday that the body would be cremated today.

Sifuna said, “we no-longer have a dispute because the matter has been settled. She was allowed to extract DNA samples from the body before interment.”

Thumbi had obtained orders blocking a cremation, burial or any manner of disposal of Okoth’s body pending the hearing and determination of her case.

Sifuna told journalists that the two sides had agreed to have DNA samples extracted from the body to determine if he is the father of Thumbi’s five-year-old son.

“The consent has been adopted by the magistrate and now there is no dispute,” Sifuna said, “This was agreed after long talks on Thursday night presided over by ODM leader Raila Odinga and Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.”

In the order earlier issued by a Magistrate’s Court, Ken’s mother Angeline Okoth, his wife Monica Okoth had been barred from undertaking any funeral rites for the deceased until the case is heard and determined. Lee Funeral Home where his body was preserved was also named as the third respondent.

In her suit papers, Thumbi said she was angered by the family’s failure to recognize her son to be listed as one of the beneficiaries of the deceased’s property.

One wants to feel confident and comfortable when visiting a specialist such as a gynecologist

As much as women are too scrupulous about their hygiene prior to an appointment, excessive thoroughness may adversely affect the examination and smear test results.

This is because during the exam the doctor pays attention to the nature, color, odor and amount of vaginal discharge among other things. Therefore changes in parameters may indicate chances of having a disease.

However, this does not mean that you give up personal hygiene at all.

So, prior to an appointment, it is recommended that you wash your vagina with warm water but without using antibacterial soap since such products also affect the vaginal pH and can distort the results.

He has been vocal and commanding, with him at some point insinuating that Deputy President William Ruto’s name will not be on the ballot come 2022. But is it guaranteed that he commands everyone? Well, Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) secretary general Francis Atwoli is now crying foul over President Uhuru Kenyatta’s aides and security chiefs for ignoring his calls.

Speaking to the press in his offices in Nairobi, the Central Organisation of Trade Union boss said unlike Francis Muthaura and other aides of former President Mwai Kibaki, Uhuru’s aides are rude.

He accused them of colluding with cartels to lie to the President over the Portland Cement land saga.

“They don’t receive my calls. If [Interior CS Fred] Matiang’i does not receive my call, how can he receive a call from a common mwananchi?” Atwoli asked.

The Cotu chief criticised Uhuru’s administration and urged him not to take the advice of his aides on anything concerning the land.

Atwoli said he is a trustee of NSSF which has 28 per cent of shares in the 4,700 acres of Portland.

“I and millions of other Kenyans are part of the land. We have shares there and we cannot allow cartels to lie to the President and steal land from Kenyans. No one has said that Portland has free land to give to the state,” he said.

He warned President Kenyatta to be keen if he wanted to achieve his agenda.

Atwoli urged the state to follow the right channel if it wanted to take the land, failure to which the matter will be taken to court.

“I want President Uhuru to get this right from us. There is no free land from Portland. If anyone needs this land let him follow the right procedure.”

The Cotu chief added that he was ready to die if cartels need to eliminate him to achieve “their vision of stealing from Kenyans” but said that justice will prevail even after his death.

A Nairobi court on has issued orders stopping the cremation of fallen Kibra MP Ken Okoth until the case filed by Ann Muthoni, Ken Okoth’s ‘second wife’ in court is heard.

The court also stopped burial until the case is heard and determined.

Ann Thumbi sued on behalf of her son, whom she says is Okoth’s.

Through lawyer Elkana Mogaka Thumbi, Muthoni sued Okoth’s mum Angeline Okoth and wife Monica Okoth along with Lee funeral home.

“The mother and wife have deliberately and unfortunately excluded me from the funeral and burial arrangements of Okoth,” the petition reads.

Muthoni said she only learnt of the arrangements from the media.

According to Muthoni, the family has unilaterally decided to have the body cremated “among other reasons to primarily destroy any evidence of her son’s lineage to Okoth”.

The order stopping the burial and cremation was issued by Senior Principal Magistrate GA Mmasi.

The case will be heard on August 9.

It was speculated, and it is finally happening! Did you ever think that women will emerge claiming to be fallen Kibra MP Ken Okoth’s ‘wives’? Well, his legacy might be the reason.

As push and pull on whether Ken Okoth’s body should be cremated or buried goes on, a fresh controversy has rocked the family as a second ‘wife’ emerged with his five-year-old son.

According to a local daily, the woman, a Jubilee-nominated MCA, approached Okoth’s family on Tuesday evening and demanded that her son be recognised before his ‘father’ is interred.

The son, whose pictures with Okoth have been shared online, is well known among Okoth’s close circle and family members.

The MP’s European widow, Monica, is said to have got wind of the boy and opposed the idea of publicly recognising him. She and Okoth had no biological children but adopted three.

The widow is said to have protested attempts to have him mentioned in the MP’s funeral advertisement.

The advert was to be published in Wednesday’s dailies, but the push and pull on whether the child should be listed delayed the plan.

Opposition chief Raila Odinga on Wednesday chaired a crisis meeting with the family but only told the press, “The body will be handled in the same way as that of Kenneth Matiba.”

Okoth and his secret lover are said to have met in 2011 while the woman was working as a nurse at the Aga Khan Hospital, Nairobi, before she was nominated to the county assembly during the 2017 General Election.

At one time, the MP is said to have stayed together with the woman at a house along Ngong Road in Nairobi.

The revelations came just hours after Okoth’s mother Angelina Ajwang’ warned that her son did not father any child outside of her marriage with Monica.

“Ken did not sire any child. I know many women will come out to claim they have at least a child with Ken,” she told a local television station on Tuesday.

The MCA, who has the support of a number of Okoth’s kinsmen, has been blocked from burial preparations, which close family members describe as ‘unfortunate’.

On Wednesday, there was a public viewing at Lee Funeral Home and community memorial service at Starehe Boys Centre and School.

On Thursday, the human rights sector will hold another memorial service at the University of Nairobi from 2pm to 6 pm.

The body will then be flown to Kabondo, Homa Bay county, where there will be another funeral service at Got Rateng’ ground in Kabondo Kasipul constituency.

Deputy President William Ruto was, on Wednesday, present to witness history in the making, after he helped secure a peace deal in the war-torn Kerio Valley.

A two-month dialogue process initiated by the DP culminated in the penning of a peace accord, set to bring together communities from Elgeyo-Marakwet, West Pokot and Baringo counties.

The country’s second in command also witnessed the re-opening of Chesegon open-air market, formerly bristling with activities, the marketplace had metamorphosed into a ghostly centre for the last seven years following fatal clashes.

“Today, Kerio Valley has changed from the valley of cattle rustling and death to the valley of hope and peace,” DP Ruto remarked.

He then led the leaders gathered at the market centre in prayer, during which he reiterated the need to forgive and forge a new, more prosperous path to the future, The Standardreported.

“Today we put aside all other activities to witness the peace agreement so that development can begin,” he divulged.

Violent cattle rustling tales had been a mainstay in the area christened ‘the valley of death’, with at least 120 people reportedly killed in just under three years.

DP Ruto urged the residents to abandon the archaic way of living and embrace trade and commerce, for a more sustainable future.

Ruto was accompanied by governors John Lonyang’apuo (West Pokot) and Alex Tolgos (Elgeyo-Marakwet), Senator Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo-Marakwet) and several MPs including Oscar Sudi (Kapseret).

In his address, the visibly joyous DP affirmed that the signing of the accord had officially opened up the area to development projects that had stalled due to constant clashes.

Eight days ago, Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso had told her doctor she wanted to be discharged.

In the past two months, Dr Laboso had been in hospitals in London, India and finally at the Nairobi Hospital, where she died yesterday.

“I want to go rest at home,” she had told one of her doctors on July 21 from her hospital bed in the high dependency unit (HDU).Deputy President William Ruto was among those who had visited her that Sunday.

Yesterday, Ruto, who spoke outside Lee Funeral Home, recalled that Laboso had asked him how Bomet was doing. The DP said he told her not to worry about the county, but to take time to take care of her health.

Even as they spoke about her recovery, the governor reportedly asked Ruto to ensure Bomet was not left out in government development programmes.

Two days earlier, on July 19, Laboso had been moved from the intensive care unit to the HDU where she requested to be allowed to go ‘rest at home’.

But some family members are said to have resisted the suggestion, arguing that she needed to be in hospital. That is why on Monday, July 22, she was moved to the general VIP ward in the North Wing where she remained until her death.

Last Friday night, family and friends held a prayer vigil at the hospital for the 58-year-old former university lecturer who was first thrown in the political arena in September 2008 following the death in an airplane crash of her elder sister and Sotik MP Lorna Laboso.

The vigil was attended by her husband Edwin Abonyo, her children, Chief Administrative Secretary Rachel Shebesh and Nairobi County Speaker Beatrice Elachi.

They had gathered at the hospital’s North Wing ward reception for prayers for the first-term governor who had been at the hospital for the last three weeks.

According to medical staff, Laboso was first diagnosed with cancer in 1991, but she had been in remission until recently when her health deteriorated.Doctors noted that the cancer had spread throughout her body.

Laboso returned to the country recently after spending one-and-a-half months in the United Kingdom and India. On July 9, Bomet County Director of Communication Ezra Kirui issued a statement that Laboso was expected back home from India.

The governor had left the country on May 29 for London and was admitted at the Royal Madden NHS Hospital for over a month.

She was later flown to India for another two weeks for further treatment. In the statement, Mr Kirui said Laboso would not resume work because she would still be receiving medical care.

“Upon her return, however, the governor will continue with her medication locally as per her doctor’s advice.”

County affairs

Before she flew abroad, Laboso handed over the management of county affairs to her deputy, Hillary Barchok, and County Secretary Evalyne Rono.

Prior to her visit to London, Laboso had kept a low profile in the county which at one point led to speculation about her health.Earlier this month, former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto and Chepalungu MP Gideon Koskei visited her in India.

Five days ago, Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga led a team of women legislators to visit her at Nairobi Hospital. Before she was elected governor, Laboso had served as Sotik MP from 2008 to 2017. She had also held the post of deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen has taken to social media to cry foul after Baringo Senator Gideon Moi allegedly blocked him from an interview he was to have with Standard Media owned KTN News TV in a talk show dubbed CheckPoint.

Murkomen who has complained about lack of media freedom in Kenya referring to the struggle between media ownership and editorial independence says Gideon cancelled his appearance on KTN on Sunday night.

“I am sorry to let you know that my colleague Senator Gideon Moi has cancelled my appearance at KTN #CheckPoint Tonight. I have always supported media freedom in Kenya. Unfortunately the struggle between media ownership and editorial independence is real. I don’t have any ill will against news team. They have to do what they have to do. I wish them well. Good night,” read his post on his facebook page.

Former President Daniel Arap Moi’s family owns the majority shares at the Standard Media group, which Murkomen argues is the reason for the cancellation of his appearance.

The Baringo Senator does not read from the same script with Deputy President William Ruto and his allies.

With succession politics hotting up, DP Ruto has posed himself as the main challenger of the top most seat which Gideon has hence declared interest in.

The differences between Murkomen and Gideon have not started now. In 2016 when the NYS scandal came up, Gideon wanted Murkomen and DP Ruto questioned over the scandal.

They have also differed in several issues among them fight against corruption and the referendum push.

A few days ago, Murkomen publicly claimed that he has been an acting Senator for Baringo questioning the whereabouts of Gideon.

Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu hit the headlines on Saturday morning when he allegedly went missing when detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) sought him.

This followed an arrest order from the Director of Pubic Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji on Friday. The DPP ordered the arrest of Waititu and his wife Susan Ndung’u for allegedly receiving Sh51.2 million proceeds of the irregular tender awarded to M/S Testimony Enterprises Limited for road works.

However, early Saturday morning planned raid by (EACC) detectives to arrest the suspects failed to bear fruit after the governor, his wife and the others went missing.

The detectives camped at the residences of the suspects from as early as 5.30am yesterday but left empty-handed hours later.

Waititu finally got arrested on Sunday morning after he presented himself at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission offices in Nairobi.

But where was the Kiambu County chief all this time he was being sought?

Well, according to his lawyer Kipchumba Karori, the governor had been “out of town since Friday evening” when news broke out he was wanted for prosecution.

“He arrived last (Saturday) evening and he has presented himself now to the authorities. There was confusion,” he was quoted by The Standard.

He arrived in one car accompanied by the lawyer. He did not have the trappings of power that he usually enjoys.

Waititu’s wife and five others are now being sought after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) ordered their arrest to face corruption charges. Officials said they expect them to surrender.

However, Haji while giving his consent for immediate arrest and prosecution of the suspects, exonerated Waititu’s daughter. He noted that the governor’s daughter had no case to answer.

“We find that she was a sleeping director and not active in the affairs of the company. Her explanation is reasonable,” said Haji on Saturday.

The suspects are to be charged in relation to abuse of office involving a tender worth Sh588 million and fraudulent acquisition of Sh221 million public property.

The inquiry relates to allegations of procurement of tender no CGK/RTPW/142/2017-18 for the upgrading of various gravel roads to bituminous surface in Kiambu County awarded to M/S Testimony Enterprises Limited.

The company was awarded the contract by the county government to provide services and supply goods by way of a request for proposal.

“A total of Sh74.2 million has so far been paid to the contractor. The company has therefore been paid Sh221.4 million, inclusive of the Sh147 million,” said the DPP.

The DPP said part of the funds were used by Saika Two Estate Developers Limited to purchase Bieneveu Delta Hotel Limited owned by Waititu and his wife.

Exiled controversial lawyer Dr Miguna Miguna has taken issue with ODM leader Raila Odinga for mourning the departed Kibra MP Ken Okoth.

Barely hours after the Kibra lawmaker’s death, Miguna Miguna has hit out at Raila, accusing him of looting during his tenure as an Lang’ata MP.

Miguna who has praised Ken Okoth for working hard to better the lives of Kibra people says Raila was doing the opposite.

He has gone ahead to expose the wealth he alleges Raila got using public funds. He has accused the AU envoy of building himself big hotels in Kisumu as Ken Okoth built schools and health centres for Kibra people.

Miguna has accused Raila of building Grand Royal Swiss Hotel in Kisumu with billions of public money he had allegedly stolen as Prime Minister.

He further accuses Raila of looting to build Nkandlas in Kisumu, which he argues that it is worth Ksh 2.5 billion.

“As Jacon Zuma was looting public money and building Nkandlas, in Kenya, The Kabaka Yekka @RailaOdinga was looting, competing with Uhuru, Ruto and Moi in plunder and building Nkandlas in Kisumu. Below is @RailaOdinga‘s Nkandla built at Shs. 2.5B public money,” tweeted Miguna Miguna.

The lawyer further accuses Raila of looting 11 billion of public money from Kazi Kwa Vijana and built himself a Taj Mahal and 3 five star hotels in Kisumu.

“Ken Okoth used the modest CDF to construct more than 5 major schools in Kibra in less than 7 years while The People’s Con-Man Kabaka Yekka @RailaOdinga looted Shs. 11 billion of public money from Kazi Kwa Vijana and built himself a Taj Mahal and 3 five star hotels in Kisumu,” tweeted Miguna.

Miguna further says that Raila was an anti-Okoth crusader, alleging that he arranged to have him stoned in the run-up to the 2017 polls.

The former Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant accused Raila of trying to use illegal ways to push Okoth out of the Kibera race in favour of his daughter Rosemary Odinga who was also eyeing the seat before she was taken ill.

He also observed that Okoth’s seven-year tenure outdid Raila’s 25 years when he represented the area when it was under the larger Langata constituency.
