After overhauling the parliamentary leadership, President Uhuru Kenyatta is said to be shifting his focus to the Cabinet and is reportedly keen on tapping the most experienced hands to drive his legacy agenda.

Nine prominent politicians, among them Wiper leade Kalonzo Musyoka, KANU leader Gideon Moi, former Bomet governor Isaac Rutto, former Funyula MP Paul Otuoma, former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth and Charles Nyachae among those tipped to join Uhuru’s cabinet in a looming shake up.

According to a local daily, Kalonzo is proposed to take over the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with Rutto landing the Agriculture docket while Gideon will oversee the lucrative Energy portfolio.

Former Chief of Defence Forces Samson Mwathethe is also among the names proposed to join Uhuru’s Cabinet in the changes that could be announced anytime from now.

Reports by the local daily indicate that Uhuru may hive off the immigration and registration of persons department from the Interior and Coordination of National Government ministry and name Mwathethe as the new docket’s boss.

The new CSs are expected to help the President “explain to Kenyans the projects government is implementing as Uhuru firms up his legacy”.

The impending changes have already triggered panic in the Cabinet amidst reports that key allies of Deputy President William Ruto and those nursing 2022 political ambitions will be dropped.

The impending changes have already triggered panic in the Cabinet amidst reports that key allies of Deputy President William Ruto and those nursing 2022 political ambitions will be chopped.

Those aware of the President’s plans say Uhuru is keen to assemble a team of experienced leaders who will work for him “body and soul” as he enters the home stretch of his final term.

The team that will steer Uhuru’s life-and-death fight for a legacy will exclude politicians who have shown any interest in the 2022 general election to avoid divided attention and competing interests.

Some CSs are said to be plotting gubernatorial and presidential ambitions at the expense of helping deliver on the President’s agenda.

Those nursing any 2022 ambitions will be chopped. For instance, any Cabinet Secretary that is currently eyeing for 2022 political seat will not be spared.

Speculations have it that former Bomet governor Isaac Rutto and former Katanga MP Peter Kenneth might be in Uhuru’s kitchen cabinet.

Senate Majority Chief Whip Irungu Kang’ata, a close confidant of the President, confirmed the Cabinet changes could come in less than three weeks.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to fire half of his cabinet by the end of next week, an MP allied to Deputy President William Ruto has claimed.

According to the Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, President Kenyatta’s Tuesday June 2 Parliamentary Group meeting at State House, Nairobi, was just but a start.

Through a social media post, Nyoro has warned his colleagues to expect a bloody week ahead.

The lawmaker claimed that some lawmakers were to be axed after the meeting, before the head of state embarks on his cabinet, saying that his team hoped the changes would help President Kenyatta grow the economy by double digits.

“Traps come with smiles.. Expect a bloody week ahead. It starts tomorrow with NA and by end of the week, half the cabinet will be gone. We hope the economy will now grow by 18% – with compliant rubber stamps, no more blame games. We are African and Africa is our Business,” he posted.

President Kenyatta, during the Jubilee meeting announced some changes to the party’s leadership in the National Assembly.

Aden Duale, the Majority Leader in the National Assembly survived the ongoing Jubilee Party purge.

Duale was among 212 MPs who attended the meeting convened by President Kenyatta.

During the meeting, National Assembly Majority Whip Benjamin Washiali and his deputy Cecily Mbarire were shown the door.

They were replaced by Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe and Igembe North MP Maoka Maore respectively.

During the same PG  President Uhuru  appointed Amos Kimunya to serve as the Secretary of the Jubilee Coalition Joint Parliamentary Group.

The PG meeting was also attended by Deputy President Dr William Ruto who is also the Jubilee Coalition’s Deputy Party Leader, Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju and a total of 212 Members of Parliament.

At least four Cabinet Secretaries are reportedly on their way out in a looming Cabinet reshuffle.

According to reports, two of the Cabinet Secretaries are allied to Deputy President William Ruto with the remaining two two on President Uhuru Kenyatta’s side.

Daily Nation on Monday, May 4 reported that a powerful Cabinet Secretary is also to be moved to a lesser ministry.

The Cabinet reshuffle comes after an alleged meeting between Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, Kenya African National Union (KANU) party leader Gideon Moi and Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) boss Francis Atwoli.

Others said to have attended the meetings are former Cabinet Minister Paul Otuoma and Siaya Senator James Orengo.

According to Tiaty MP William Kamket, the changes were inevitable and would come “in any form, at any time”.

He claims that Ruto had failed in his role of supporting the President.

“Between William Ruto and Raila Odinga, who supports President Kenyatta? Between Gideon Moi and William Ruto, who supports the President’s agenda?

“The answer is clear, these two leaders are not meant to be just choir members in this government when some people viciously attack it.

“The President has been quiet when they make noise, attack him and now it is time to act. He has waited for them to make true their threats and to walk out but they are hesitant. It is now time to kick them out, and it will happen very soon,” he stated.

Outgoing agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has broken his silence after facing President Uhuru Kenyatta’s axe on Tuesday morning.

President Kenyatta during State of the Nation address in Mombasa made a surprise cabinet reshuffle replacing Kiunjuri with Peter Munya who moved in from Trade and Industrialization ministry.

Kiunjuri however during a live presser at Serena Hotel in Nairobi on Tuesday afternoon said that he feels relieved after the sacking.

He said the President’s decision has taken him by no surprise.

Kiunjuri says he has endured lots of humiliation with only God and his immediate family knowing how it made him feel.

He noted that he had given the best in his assignment.

“The President’s decision has taken me by no surprise, I thank God, I feel relieved. I have endured lots of humiliation, only God and my family know this. I have given my best in my assignment, I leave with my head high,” he said.

He further noted that he now has free time to do other things.

Kiunjuri cited that President Kenyatta had appointed him without consulting anyone and that he does not need any consultation to relieve him of duties.

“I now have free time to do other things, I am not going anywhere. The president appointed me without consulting anyone, he has relieved me of my duties, he does not need any consultation,” he added.

He noted that he was independent and that he was ready to walk the journey. He says he is going nowhere in terms of national politics.

“I am independent; I will walk this journey. In regard to national politics, I have told you, I am going nowhere,” he added.

It is not less than once President Uhuru Kenyatta has gone or spoken against his Deputy President Dr William Ruto. The two have on several occasions differed on different issues.

On Friday during his meeting with Mt Kenya leaders at Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri County, President Kenyatta noted that he had for once witnessed the most peaceful campaigns in Kibra constituency, contrary to his deputy who has been attacking ODM leader Raila Odinga over what he claims to be violence witnessed during the just concluded Kibra by elections.

Well, President Kenyatta is again said to be dodging pressure from his deputy to have a major cabinet reshuffle.

It’s understood that Uhuru has been showing reluctance towards the topic even as Ruto camp insists on the need to effect a reshuffling that would also pave way for a new person at the Treasury docket.

The Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection, Ukur Yatani has been the acting CS National Treasury and planning since Henry Rotich was dropped on corruption allegations.

According to a local daily, Ruto has been arguing that Yatani is overburdened by the virtue of holding the two sensitive dockets.

However there are talks that, the DP is ordinarily pushing for his tribesman man to assume the position, which according to him is a reserve for the  Kalenjin, as dictated in the power sharing agreement between him and President Uhuru.
