Nairobi-Nakuru highway traffic

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a travel advisory as Christmas traffic continues to soar significantly on all roads and highways as Kenyans rush upcountry to celebrate with their loved ones.

In a public notice issued on Sunday, December 21, 2025, KeNHA acting Director General Luka Kimeli urged motorists to exercise patience, courtesy, and caution while on the road.

“The festive season is here. Traffic has started to soar significantly on all roads, highways included. The Authority wishes to remind all road users that road safety is a shared responsibility. All road users, therefore, should exercise patience, courtesy, and caution while on the road,” the statement read in part.

All road users have been advised to plan their journeys in advance so as to allow adequate travel time and strictly adhere to all traffic rules and regulations.

Alternative routes

Motorists have also been advised to take advantage of alternative routes whenever they are available to avoid congestion.

Motorists have also been urged to observe posted speed limits and avoid speeding, as well as observe and obey traffic signs, maintain lane discipline, and avoid overlapping and reckless overtaking.

PSV operators

Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators and drivers have been reminded to adhere to approved passenger capacity limits, observe designated pick-up and drop-off points, and pack trucks on the designated truck pack.

To minimize the rate of road accidents, KeNHA has urged all drivers to be well-rested before embarking on their journeys and remain sober and fit to drive at all times.

“The Authority wishes to assure the public of the continued commitment to ensure a safe, smooth, and secure holiday travel experience for all road users. Everyone should reach their destinations safely and reunite with their loved ones. KeNHA wishes all Kenyans safe and pleasant travels during this festivity season, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,” the statement read.

Below are some of the habits to avoid in favor of your fellow passengers

FEEDING HABITS

Eat from your house and head to the bus station on a full stomach. If u can’t eat from home wait until you arrive at the designated stopping point. Some of us are very broke to sustain the chicken and chips aroma that you are inflicting on us as we travel.  Avoid foods that can inflict bodily harm to your bus mates.   Sugar cane is not advisable during travel. You may inflict your neighbor with unplanned injuries while trying to exercise the INEOS kipchoge challenge on sugarcane

Avoid foods that can cause neema to arrest you for being biologically hazardous to the environment and Stop pouring food on us .You can’t eat a cocktail of yoghurt eggs and groundnuts then expect a positive response from your stomach.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

We don’t want to hear how Duale your village dog raped Rex the City chiuwawa .In short we are not interested in your nonsensical phone conversations. If u must speak to us make sure your dental formulae is clean. We are tired of the heavy hazardous smell of last night’s Guinness while trying to make us laugh to your unfunny long stories

SLEEPING HABITS

If your neck can’t handle your big Head kindly try to stabilize your head somewhere else when sleepy.  Kama uko na Tabia ya kuachia wenzako stain ya Mate ukiwa umelala panda punda

CHILDREN

If family planning dint work for you please don’t involve us with your six children if you can’t pay their bus tickets and facilitate their feeding.  The habit of “nishikie huyu” or “amka baba ukule na uncle”   uncle?? Where? Who? How?

MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS

If you can’t keep your eyes to yourselves, watch the moving trees outside and Stop poking your nose to our phones. To phone owners keep your private matters private and put on headphones. We are not interested in your coarse voice notes with your TWA TWA partner

Christmas is around the corner and you can tell that through the offers that the big retail shops are offering on goods and services and the new kind of fashion in cities.

Many people have different understanding of Christmas ,some see it as a religious festival and so they spend their Christmas Eve in church singing Christmas carols hymns and songs and watching nativity plays in church while some see it as a family reunion event because this is the time they get to see each other and celebrate together after a long period of different events .

People get excited during Christmas because they get to be off duties ,while others are so excited because they’re going to spend whatever they have been saving for this big Event during this period.

Different communities in different countries have different ways of celebrating Christmas. The way people will be celebrating Christmas in Congo is so different from Nigeria and Haiti. It is during Christmas that people prepare better meals than the usual ones.some prepare their traditional meals while others prepare the modern meals that they don’t usually afford to cook every other day.

People buy artificial Christmas trees and decorate them with paper chains, balloons, paper flowers, paper laterns .There is also making of Christmas cards to give to the loved ones.People save money so that they can travel to different countries or big cities in their country and buy new outfits for this big Event.

After Christmas day we have the boxing day where people open their presents though this day is not common to all countries in the world.

We all love celebrating but what of that child sitting in the streets of Nairobi, Mississippi,Acra and Arusha, that child suffering in the cancer ward, that orphan being mistreated by her step parents, that prisoner languishing in jail? How can we make them feel accepted in the society and impact something bin their lives?

When you are celebrating remember of the vulnerable in the society and try to make a smile of their faces don’t celebrate Christmas alone show love to your neighbors.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.
