Pius Mbugua Ngugi,

Billionaire businessman Pius Mbugua Ngugi, one of Kenya’s most powerful agribusiness figures and the estranged husband of Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, is now a wanted man after a Nakuru court issued a warrant for his arrest over an unpaid legal bill amounting to Sh4.2 million.

Ngugi, 81, the founder of the Kenya Nut Company and a dominant player in the global macadamia market, is being sought by police following orders issued by the Environment and Land Court in Nakuru on January 29, 2026. The warrant authorises officers to pursue him to all his known residences and business premises, both in Nairobi and upcountry.

Police Foiled at CBD Offices

Police officers from Central Police Station have reportedly been camping outside Ngugi’s offices at the iconic Volvo House on Loita Street, Nairobi CBD, but were left frustrated after failing to arrest him despite intelligence suggesting he was inside the building.

Sources familiar with the operation describe a dramatic cat-and-mouse chase, with the tycoon allegedly slipping through the police dragnet, leaving officers empty-handed in a scene likened to a Nollywood thriller.

The warrant gives police wide latitude to execute the arrest, including provisions for travel expenses. Officers are entitled to bus or railway fare, or Sh1 per mile if using motor vehicles, in addition to out-of-pocket expenses incurred during the manhunt.

The Debt Behind the Drama

At the centre of the unfolding saga is a legal fee dispute involving Githogori & Harisson Associates, a law firm that previously represented Ngugi.

Court documents show that the tycoon owes the firm:

  • Sh3.7 million in principal fees
  • Sh475,948 in accrued interest
  • Sh5,500 in collection fees
  • Sh1,500 in court filing costs

The total stands at approximately Sh4.2 million, a figure widely regarded as pocket change for a businessman whose empire spans agriculture, insurance, real estate, manufacturing, and finance.

Advocate Harrison Musyoka, representing the law firm, has been pushing for swift enforcement. In a letter dated February 4, 2026, addressed to the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Central Police Station, Musyoka underscored the urgency of executing the warrant.

The matter is scheduled for directions in court on February 5, with the judge expecting an update on progress made in arresting Ngugi. The OCS is said to have received the warrant only a day earlier, piling pressure on police to act fast.

A Familiar Scandal for Passaris

For Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, the latest controversy involving her husband is another chapter in a long and public history of personal turmoil.

Passaris has previously spoken openly about the challenges of her polygamous marriage to Ngugi. In a 2016 interview, she admitted that while she never planned to be in such an arrangement, she had learned to accept it. The couple has two children together—Makenna and Lefteris—while Ngugi also has four children with his first wife, Josephine Wambui Ngugi.

Their relationship has repeatedly made headlines. In 2003, Passaris sued Ngugi, accusing him of breaching a promise to marry her after the two had lived together as husband and wife since 1992. In 2014, another woman, Lynette Lucy Buddery, took Ngugi to court over delayed school fees for their daughter.

Legal Troubles Beyond Family Matters

Ngugi’s run-ins with the law are not limited to domestic disputes.

In 2020, the Court of Appeal ordered Kenya Nut Company to pay the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Sh33.5 million in withholding tax linked to commissions paid to foreign agents between 2002 and 2005. The judges castigated the firm’s arrangements, describing them as “reckless” and seemingly designed to deny the country tax revenue.

A Colossal Empire, A Small Debt

Ngugi controls roughly 10 per cent of the global macadamia market, with business interests that include Thika Coffee Mills, Kenya Alliance Insurance, Tatu City, sweet manufacturing, dairy farming, wineries, and prime real estate.

His consumer brands—Out of Africa nuts, Nassu Snacks, Aberdare Tea, and Leleshwa Wines—are household names across Kenya.

That such a titan of industry is now evading arrest over unpaid legal fees has stunned observers and raised uncomfortable questions about accountability among Kenya’s elite.

From Coffee Farmer to Macadamia King

Ngugi’s rise is the stuff of legend. A coffee farmer in Kiambu in the early 1970s, he pivoted to macadamia farming after coffee prices collapsed in 1972. With government backing and Japanese investors, he built a processing empire that today employs more than 4,000 people and manages over 8,000 acres of farmland.

For decades, he shunned the limelight, so much so that many Kenyans only saw his face in a 1995 Kenya Newsreel broadcast shown in cinemas before the movie Crimson Tide.

A Fall from Grace Playing Out in Public

Now, the once-elusive billionaire is making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

As police intensify the manhunt and the court deadline looms, the question remains: will Pius Ngugi settle the debt and face the court, or will he continue dodging arrest?

One thing is clear—the macadamia king cannot run forever. And as the streets watch and the law closes in, this extraordinary chapter in his storied life is unlikely to be forgotten anytime soon.

Moral cop Ezekiel Mutua has slammed Embakasi East MP Babu Owino over his latest remarks against Kandara MP Alice Wahome.

Babu Owino on Saturday took to social media promising to shave every part of Alice Wahome that has hair should she fail to respect President Uhuru Kenyatta and former premier Raila Odinga.

“Alice Wahome must respect Baba and President Uhuru or we will shave every part of her body that has hair. This is not a threat it’s a promise,” Babu Owino posted.

Mutua says politicians are okay to exchange barbs for political mileage but Babu Owino’s language is unacceptable.

He termed the language as crude and barbaric, noting that the language must not be accepted in a civilized society.

Mutua says political leaders are behaving badly and setting a bad example for the youth.

“It’s ok for politicians to differ and to exchange barbs for political mileage, but this kind of language from an MP is unacceptable. It’s crude and barbaric and must not be accepted in a civilised society. Our leaders are behaving badly and setting a bad example for the youth!” he posted.

Dr Mutua’s comment came moments after Nairobi women representative Esther Passaris tore into Babu Owino over the same remarks.

Passaris termed the post as a disrespect to women, urging Babu Owino to pull it down.

“Babu respect women. You can only shave your wife not a fellow legislator, or any other woman without their explicit consent. Any action to the contrary will be an act of defilement. I am extremely disappointed with this post. Pull it down. There’re boundaries we should not cross,” she tweeted.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino’s promise to shave every part of Kandara MP Alice Wahome should she fail to respect President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has attracted Nairobi Woman MP Esther Passaris’ fury.

Passaris tore into Babu Owino moments after his post went viral, telling him that he could only shave his wife and not a fellow legislator.

Passaris further reminded the youthful MP that he could as well shave any other woman without their explicit consent.

According to Passaris, any action to the contrary will be an act of defilement.

She expressed her disappointment with Babu Owino’s post, urging him to pull it down.

“Babu respect women. You can only shave your wife not a fellow legislator, or any other woman without their explicit consent. Any action to the contrary will be an act of defilement. I am extremely disappointed with this post. Pull it down. There’re boundaries we should not cross,” she posted.

Babu Owino made the post following recent attacks on Uhuru and Raila from Alice Wahome.

A few days ago, Wahome blasted Uhuru and Raila, arguing that they are working together to see Uhuru remain in power after his term comes to an end in 2022.

On Friday, she faced hostility at Kilimani police station. Could this be the shaving Babu Owino is referring to?

Well, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and Wahome are some of the legislators that were on Friday night teargassed while camping outside the Police Station.

They were waiting for detained Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria to be released on a Sh50,000 bond.

According to Nyoro, apart from the teargas, some of their motor vehicles have been smashed.

“They have teargassed us ruthlessly and smashed some of our vehicles inside Kilimani Police Station as we tried to have them obey a court order on Hon Moses Kuria’s release. Members of the press were not spared either. We are African and Africa is our Business…” Nyoro said.

Moses Kuria was arrested on Friday after a Kiambu woman identified as Joyce Wanja accused him of assaulting her in December 2019.

Senior principal magistrate Cheruiyot ordered for Moses Kuria’s release on a Sh50,000 bond.

This is the order the tanga tanga leaders wanted the police to obey.

Nairobi Woman MP Esther Passaris had to briefly suspend her twitter fast due to ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

Passaris on Tuesday morning announced that she was breaking the fast to wish Raila a happy birthday as he turned 75 years old.

In her message, Passaris said that Raila hs on several occasions put his needs, ambitions and pain aside for the love of this Country .

“Briefly suspending my fast from Twitter to wish Baba @RailaOdinga a Happy 75th Birthday. Time and again, you have put your needs, your ambitions, your pain aside for the love of this Country. Kenya is blessed to have you,” she posted.

Passaris had been urged to take a break from twitter after an ugly spat with Kenyans on twitter over her move to seek specialized medication in India.

Busia woman rep Florence Mutua had advised Passaris to stop responding to tweets from rapper King Kaka and focus on recuperating.

“You will come back and continue the engagement. For now, I don’t think it’s healthy. Please totally log-off,” she said.

Mutua’s comment on Monday came after Passaris told King Kaka he was full of himself following his criticism of her decision to seek treatment in India, rather than locally.

King Kaka had on Monday hit at Passaris for seeking medical care in a foreign hospital while her constituents in Nairobi cannot access basic health care.

Passaris underwent spinal cord surgery in India.

Nairobi County Woman MP Esther Passaris and Kenyan rapper Kennedy Ombima alias King Kaka on Monday morning engaged in an ugly twitter spat.

The angry exchange began with Passaris’ boast about her surgery in India where Kenyans blasted her but instead boasted again on how she had invested Ksh 50 million to win the Nairobi Women Representative seat.

It is at this point where King Kaka came in guns blazing to blast Passaris, arguing that the talk should be on how we have made our health reliable to the point that she can be getting her surgery at KNH.

The rapper shamed Passaris for boasting about the Ksh 50 million she invested, terming it as a selfish move.

He called on her to stop being selfish for once and serve the people who elected her.

“@EstherPassaris shame shame Shame. The talk should be on how we have made our health reliable to the point you are getting your surgery at KNH. Wewe Uko Hapo unatuambia juu ya 50million. Stop being selfish for once , just for once and serve the people who put you there. Shame,” he posted.

While firing a response, Passaris termed King Kaka as a person who is so ‘full and fooled’ by himself.

She said that ‘words’ can instruct but they don’t do the work or lead.

She told the Wajinga Nyinyi hit maker to get off and stop being who truly he is by thinking that change can be achieved through hate.

“You are so ‘full and fooled’ by yourself. ‘Words’ can instruct but they don’t do the work or lead. Let me spell it as it is. Get off your high horse & stop being who you truly are #WajingaNyinyi who thinks through hate you can drive or derive change. I have worked & served. You? ” Passaris fired back.

However, King Kaka did not let the response go unanswered.

He told the sickly Passaris to swallow her pills and sleep, and come later for an engagement when healed.

“You know we still need you in Nairobi so I will say a prayer today wishing you a speedy recovery since your wounds are still fresh. All those who have been retweeting her tweets also whisper a prayer. Kunywa dawa na ulale, when healed then we can engage,” replied King Kaka.

Nairobi Women Representative Esther Muthoni Passaris has put Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati on the spot that his office block was not convenient for women to walk around.

While speaking at Simba Arati’s constituency, Passaris decried the poor state of the office block that made her expensive shoes spoil.

“I am telling Simba Arati that his office is not for women. You should put slabs so that women can walk comfortably in high heels.

“I had difficulty walking and it also spoils our shoes Simba, they are very expensive and the economy is not doing so well.

In his response, Arati defended himself by faulting Passaris for choosing the wrong shoes.

“You’re the only one with high heels, these people prefer walking in flat shoes,” he stated to which the woman rep responded “Its is because they have gotten used to it here.

Nairobi Women Representative aspirant Karen Nyamu has left the social media streets talking after the photos of her smoking weed in public emerged.

Karen Nyamu who was among the key contestants for the Nairobi Women Rep Position which is currently held by Esther Passaris, revealed her wild side by joining a hundred of fans during the famous Koth Biro Tournament at Umeme Grounds in Ziwani, Nairobi.

She was caught on camera hanging out with ‘ghetto boys’ and also smoking weed with them in public.

This has elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans. Most of the people just asking the government to legalize weed.

Damn, legalise it

— gerald kieti (@ghkieti) August 5, 2019

Ni kienyewe kimenishika

— Martin Mwangi (@wakahum) August 5, 2019

While others have questioned the morality of Karen Nyamu of smoking weed in public yet it has not declared legal in Kenya yet.

Karen Nyamu? Women’s Representative aspirant? Kenya tuna mchezo https://t.co/Uxs6KdkmI3

— IreneNM #TuJadili (@TuJadili) August 5, 2019

Huyu ni mama ama Bibi ya mtu ?

— Mint Condition (@Frankayub) August 5, 2019

But Karen Nyamu likes controversy. In 2017, she posted a video of her creamy ass  which took over the internet by storm. She was actually selling her manifesto using her behind but seemingly she did not appeal to the thirsty team mafisi.
