Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has dismissed Deputy President William Ruto’s hustler movement.

Speaking in an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday night, Wambugu said DP Ruto’s philanthropic activities under the hustler nation movement where he has been donating wheelbarrows, handcarts, and other simple working tools is  ploy to deceive the youth into voting for him in 2022.

According to the Jubilee lawmaker, Ruto’s rise to power and wealth was enabled by former President Daniel arap Moi.

“The Deputy President is misleading the youth through this hustler nation charity projects. Ruto is today a very wealth man but when he was a hustler, back in his university days, he went to Moi and he was given prime land. He was given a job at YK92 and allowed to do big business with the government – that is how he acquired wealth. If he wants others to be like him, why not give them land and government jobs rather than mkokotenis?” Wambugu posed.

He added that many of those who voted for the DP would not have done so if they knew he would be spending every day campaigning for the Presidency.

Early this year, Ruto revealed that Moi gave him his first piece of land while he was in university which he later sold and bought his first car.

A day after skipping the national Covid-19 conference chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta, Ruto was back to dishing out ‘hustler’ goodies to youths at his Karen residence in Nairobi.

On Tuesday, the DP distributed several items, including wheelbarrows, to youths and women, and said, “Every hustle matters, creating and expanding each opportunity is a chance to make many dreams come true.”

The DP said that the insults from his critics will not stop him from reaching out to the youths who need his help.

Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has finally reached out to  Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti over politicians that have been using certain phrases in rallies.

In a letter shared on his Facebook page on Tuesday September 15, 2020, the lawmaker has argued that phrases like “Watu fulani” and “Watu wengine” may sound harmless but could be coded by politicians to fan violence against a section of Kenyans.

Wambugu has pointed out Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi, his Emurua Dikirr counterpart Johana Ng’eno and the Deputy President William Ruto as the leaders who commonly use the phrases, which he termed as ambiguous.

He has likened the phrases to  “kwekwe” and “madoadoa” which were allegedly used to spread hate messages and incite ethnic violence by politicians during the 2007 General Election.

“Please note that the phrases “Watu fulani” and “watu wengine”are politically ambiguous. In current p[ublic political conversations these phrases are being assumed to refer to particular Kenyan political families. Others assume that these refer to particular Kenyan economic sector. However, some…fear that these phrases could as easily refer to a certain ethnic community,” reads part of his letter.

He said the phrases must be viewed  as dangerous as the “madoadoda” and “kwekwe” encountered in Kenya’s violent history.

Wambugu has therefore urged DCI Kinoti to investigate whether the phrases are meant to incite some sections of Kenyan society against others.

He demanded that appropriate charges be preferred against anyone who has used these phrases in political rallies, should they be found to have meant to incite Kenyans.

Deputy President Dr William Ruto believes that at least 146 lawmakers, both from the National Assembly and the senate have his back.

This is approximately 70 percent of the parliament. But is this the case?

Well, an MP from the Kieleweke faction of Jubilee party has a different thought. The Nyeri town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu bbelieves that the second in command is day dreaming, or rather hallucinating.

According to the MP, the figure that the DP believes he is controlling is an estimate that he just wants to believe that it reflects his support in Parliament but in reality, it is far away from the truth.

“If Deputy President William Ruto believes that he controls 70 per cent of elected Jubilee legislators both in the Senate and the National Assembly, he should know that he is hallucinating. That figure is an estimate that the Deputy President just wants to believe that it reflects his support in Parliament but in reality, it is far away from the truth,” Wambugu told a local daily.

Wambugu goes ahead to note that the Deputy President does not have the platform to control legislators either at the Senate or the National Assembly.

“Ruto is not a party leader or a parliamentary leader. We know who the party leader of the ruling Jubilee is. We also know who the leaders of the other parties represented in Parliament are. We also know who the majority leaders and minority leaders in Parliament are. Ruto is none of them. So to say that he controls that percentage of MPs in Parliament basing it on the number of MPs who have protested against changes in Jubilee officials would be misleading,” the MP was quoted by the local daily.

The lawmaker further notes that Ruto should use the influence he has to help Kenya and Kenyans by playing a critical role in helping the country through COVID-19 pandemic.

“Whatever influence Ruto has, he should use it to help Kenyans and Kenya. He should play a critical role in helping the country through the Covid-19 pandemic. This obsession the Deputy President has with leading Kenya in 2022 should be put on hold because there are currently more pressing issues that leaders need to look into,” he said.

“All his energies should be directed to the fight against the pandemic and not the 2022 succession politics. Ruto should do whatever he can to ensure that there is a Kenya and Kenyans to lead come 2022,” he added.

Deputy President Dr William Ruto’s demand for an apology from ODM party leader Raila Odinga seems to have gone wrong.

A section of leaders from Central Kenya have blasted the DP after he demanded for an apology from Raila , following chaos which occurred during the just concluded Kibra parliamentary by-election.

Taking to social media on Saturday, the DP accused ODM of being behind the violence witnessed on Thursday and asked Raila to come out and apologise to all those who were attacked.

“As Kenyans we demand that Tinga/his party unconditionally, unequivocally and publicly renounce the culture of violence, chaos, terror and gangsterism their signature modus operandi as witnessed in Kibra and unreservedly apologise to victims past and present for their hurt and loss,” Ruto tweeted.

The sentiments, however, did not go well with some leaders from Central Kenya who hit back at the DP saying he is the one who should apologise.

Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu revisited the 2007 post-election violence in the Rift Valley, saying Ruto should ask for forgiveness over the killing and displacement of people which occurred in his political backyard.

“You most probably want to apologise for PEV in Rift Valley in 2007, before you point fingers at others, Sir,” he posted on facebook.

On his part, former Mukurwe-ini MP Kabando Wa Kabando said Ruto should apologise to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila for allegedly insulting them.

“Mr Deputy President, Sir: apologize unreservedly for your rants, insults, arrogance, divisiveness, disdain for your boss our President and fear of Agwambo (Raila). Vice Presidents (VPs) Jaramogi, Murumbi, Moi, Kibaki, Karanja, Saitoti, Mudavadi, Wamalwa, Awori, Kalonzo never stooped this low. Terrible. Sad,”Kabando said.

After the emergence of two factions in ruling party’s Jubilee, two different women groups linked to the factions have been given birth to.

The Kieleweke faction that spearheads President Uhuru Kenyatta’s development agenda has team Embrace women group and the Tanga tanga group which has hence launched early presidential campaigns for deputy President Dr William Ruto has team Inua mama.

On Friday, the groups held two different rallies. Team Embrace was in Kakamega’s Bukhungu stadium whilst team inua mama camped in Nyeri town.

However, the inua mama rally in Nyeri turned out to be chaotic.

This has forced Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu to react following the chaotic Tanga Tanga rally at his backyard.

The group of women supporting Ruto’s bid had to cancel a rally organised by Nyeri Woman Representative Rahab Mukami, following the chaotic scenes.

Ngunjiri, who has been critical of the pro-Ruto team dubbed as Tanga Tanga, took to Facebook to warn against future rallies in the constituency.

“Am sorry. But #2022 siasa in Nyeri Constituency. At this time is a No,” wrote Wambugu, after forcefully storming the rally that was later called off.

The team had earlier toured neighboring Kirinyaga County where they were hosted by Purity Ngirici. It was the second time a pro-Ruto rally was being disrupted in Nyeri.

Among the leaders present were county MPs Wangui Ngirici (Kirinyaga) Jane Chebaibai (Elgeyo Marakwet) Gladys Boss-Shollei (Uasin Gishu) Beatrice Nkatha (Tharaka/Nithi), Gertrude Mbeyu (Kilifi), Lydia Haika (Taita Taveta) and Faith Gitau (Nyandarua).

According to Wambugu, the women legislators did not say anything of substance apart from uttering abusive statements in their rally.

“THEN OF COURSE – I VISITED THE ‘INUA-WHATEVER’ EVENT THAT SOME FEMALE MPs BROUGHT TO NYERI …But lakini except matusi I didn’t actually hear anything else of substance. But we didn’t interrupt them. They spoke. Then they left. And we left,” he posted.

A Jubilee lawmaker belonging to Kieleweke faction has accused Deputy President William Ruto of fighting’ the government in public podiums like he was in the opposition.

The Nyeri Township MP Ngunjiri Wambugu says Ruto is weakening President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government.

“Governments are not popular. However those who publicly attack a government are those who want it to lose favor with the public, and become illegitimate. This is usually done by the opposition so as to weaken the government in power in readiness to beat them at elections and take over,”

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Wambugu said it was no longer a secret that the DP and his allies in the Tanga Tanga group were out to weaken Uhuru’s administration following their sustained attacks on people he (Uhuru) appointed to help him deliver on his election pledges.

Ruto’s team has been calling for resignation of three Cabinet Secretaries led by Peter Munya of Trade and a number of Principal Secretaries including Interior’s Karanja Kibicho over claims they were planning to eliminate the DP.

“They are attacking Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and now the ruling party’s Secretary General! Clearly they want to weaken the government – why?” the first-time MP posed.

He made the remarks moments after Ruto launched an attack on Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju claiming he has shifted his loyalty from the ruling party to the opposition.
