The National Super Alliance (NASA) Co-principals Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetang’ula are planning to sue the Raila Odinga-led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party over political parties’ funding.

The trio is also planning to officially withdraw from NASA after a fallout with the Orange party.

According to Mudavadi, the three coalition partners, Amani National Congress (ANC), Wiper and Ford Kenya are already formulating paperwork that will see the end to NASA coalition. The coalition agreement stipulates that NASA can only cease to exist if three partners decide to pull out.

The trio want to sue Raila Odinga’s party over political parties’ funds that have been disbursed to ODM since 2017.

Bungoma Senator and the Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang’ula said public resources have been channeled to one of the coalition’s partners who has completely refused to account, which he says may lead to legal challenges.

As NASA affiliates, Wetang’ula says they shall seek remedies legally starting with arbitration, tribunal and “maybe eventually the High Court”.

Wetang’ula further noted that Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka was mandated to address the issue with the ODM party leader but Odinga and ODM are said to have snubbed any negotiations with Kalonzo for the last six months.

A meeting that was meant to happen on May 7 failed to happen, after ODM deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya failed to show up, further complicating the matter.

ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna has however rubbished the matter, claiming that ODM does not owe anything to the three parties.

The resignation of an agency director to run for the vacant Bonchari Constituency parliamentary seat has triggered jitters in Raila Odinga’s ODM camp.

Embattled Energy and Petroleum Regulatory and Authority (EPRA) boss Pavel Oimeke resigned and announced his intentions to vie for the Bonchari MP seat in the upcoming by-election.

Although he has not mentioned the political party he will be vying on, there are reports that Oimeke might settle to run on Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.

Oimeke told a local daily that he has kicked off consultations that will aid him to choose on the right party to vie on.

The seat became vacant after the death of John Oyoo Oyioka on Monday, February 15, after a long illness.

Media reports indicated that Oimeke had written to the Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter over his resignation.

“I Pavel Robert Oimeke, would like to announce my resignation from the position of director-general at the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory and Authority,” he stated.

Oimeke is embroiled in a graft case in which he is accused of demanding a Ksh200,000 bribe. It is alleged that Oimeke demanded the bribe in order to reopen a petrol station in Oyugis, Homa Bay county.

The petrol station had been shut down over tax violations. Oimeke denied the graft allegations even as the case continues to drag in court.

The former energy boss was appointed EPRA boss in August 2017 for a three-year renewable contract. However, this was contested over allegations of abuse of office and fraud.

This led to Justice Hellen Wasilwa of the Employment and Labour Relations Court stopping the renewal of Oimeke’s contract to allow investigations to continue.

Ousted Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko has stirred mixed reactions on the internet after he publicly confessed to what he did to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) supporters in 2017, with the help of ‘the deep state’.

Sonko who since his impeachment has launched an assail on President Uhuru Kenyatta and his ‘Kieleweke’ allied Jubilee party members has taken his tirades a notch higher.

Not even warnings by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria not to have him speak at public gatherings, especially at events attended by Deputy President William Ruto have been taken to consideration.

Speaking at a function in Dagorreti on Sunday, January 24, attended by Deputy President William Ruto, Sonko opened up on the atrocities he, alongside some senior government officials, did to ensure that Raila Odinga’s side is blamed.

According to Sonko, they went and bought T-shirts, printed them with ODM colors, bought some second hand vehicles and set them on fire, so that the ODM supporters can be blamed for being destructive.

‘I, Interior PS Karanja Kibicho and some members of the deep state printed T-shirts written ODM, bought second-hand vehicles, burned them along the highway so that it be pegged on ODM supporters, thus deeming them as violent and destructive,” he revealed.

Sonko was referring to the recent unrests that have been witnessed in the Rift Valley region, where some vehicles have been burned in what has been blamed on the war of class that is allegedly being fuelled by DP Ruto’s hustler vs dynasty narrative.

According to Sonko, it is ‘the system’ that is burning the vehicles, so that it can be blamed on DP Ruto’s hustler nation movement.

Sonko’s rant stirred mixed reactions, with some netizens arguing that his confessions will son reveal the killers of IEBC ICT manager Chris Musando.

Some claimed that the embattled politician is currently digging his own political grave since the Tanga Tanga faction that he is appeasing at the moment will also lose trust in him.

Some argued that Sonko should just be picked up and returned to Shimo La Tewa prison to complete his jail term.

A picture made rounds on early this month of cows in a truck that were burnt in alleged dynasty, hustler wars.

The hustler movement is associated with DP Ruto who has on several occasions stated that his agenda is about Wanjiku (the ordinary Kenyan) and not about tribal politics.

The post which was circulated by various individuals on social media with the claim that innocent lives were at risk as political temperatures in the country continued to rise.

“The bodabodas burned this lorry plus the cows inside it in the name of hustlers vs dynasties for the simple reason that one of their colleagues was injured by the lorry,” embattled Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot noted.

However, it later emerged that the incident had happened in Nigeria, and not Kenya as it had been widely reported.

Instances of boda boda riders causing destruction to other motorists after a major accident have, however, been reported in Kenya.

On January, 14, boda boda riders blocked a section of Outer ring road in Nairobi after one of their own was knocked down by a lorry on the road.

Raila Odinga-led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has come out to clarify on the creteria that was used to land on former Matungu MP David Aoko Were as their preferred candidate in the upcoming mini polls.

In a statement issued on Wednesday January 6, the Orange party stated that three interested persons namely David Were, Paul Posho and Jeremiah Namunyu visited Chungwa House in December last year and picked nomination forms.

By close of business on the 24th December which was the deadline, ODM says only David Were had returned the forms.

“CLARIFICATION ON MATUNGU: Three interested persons namely Hon. David Were, Mr. Paul Posho & Mr. Jeremiah Namunyu visited Chungwa Hse in Dec. last year & picked forms. By close of biz on the 24th Dec which was the deadline, only David Were returned the forms. The other two did not,”ODM said.

ODM settled on David Were as its candidate for the Matungu by-election.

Were was handed a direct ticket by the Orange party, a move that has not gone down well with rivals who have vowed not to support him in the March 4 mini-poll.

According to ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, the former legislator was awarded the party ticket after meeting set requirements.

In Were, Sifuna said the party had a strong candidate with the capacity to clinch the seat that fell vacant after the death of Justus Murunga on November 14, last year.

He will now face ANC candidate Peter Nabulindo and about 10 independent candidates, including Benard Wakoli who decamped from Ford Kenya after the party leadership withdrew from the race in support of the ANC candidate.

Were served as the MP for Matungu from 2002 to 2017 when he lost to Murunga.

He vied on Jubilee party ticket in 2017, having fallen out with the Orange party leadership.

Paul Achayo, a newcomer, clinched the ODM ticket but performed dismally after a section of voters branded him an ‘outsider’ from neighbouring Butere constituency.

Achayo ditched ODM two weeks ago, accusing the party of resorting to undemocratic tendencies.

Raila Odinga-led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party will hold its nominations on Thursday ahead of the upcoming Msambweni constituency mini polls.

The Orange party on Wednesday September 30, 2020 announced that the newly inaugurated National Elections Board under the leadership of Catherine Mumma had already put everything in place.

Two parliamentary seat aspirants namely Omar Idd Boga and Eng. Nicholas Zani will be fighting for the Orange party ticket.

“The newly inaugurated National Elections Board the leadership of Ms. Catherine Mumma is set for primaries in Msambweni Constituency tomorrow (Thursday). Two aspirants namely Omar Idd Boga & Eng. Nicholas Zani will be fighting for the party ticket,” ODM announced.

Msambweni Constituency by-election will be held on December 15.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) said the by-election which was postponed in April will be held under strict COVID-19 regulations.

The seat fell vacant following the death of Suleiman Dori in March. The ODM MP succumbed to cancer.

Deputy President William Ruto had planned to front a candidate in the constituency perceived to be one of the Coast strongholds of Raila’s ODM.

But like his fate in government, politics of ‘handshake’ between President Kenyatta and Raila seem to have cost him yet another chance to prove his political mettle as he gears up for 2022 presidential race.

The second in command then met an independent candidate in the Msambweni by-election, just a day after the Jubilee Party announced it will not field a candidate in the mini poll.

The aspirant, Feisak Abdallah Bader, visited the DP at his Karen residence in the company Members of Parliament from coast region among them Nyali’s Mohammed Ali, Kilifi North’s Owen Mbaya, Lungalunga’s Khatib Mwashetani, Lamu East’s Athman Shariff and Malindi’s Aisha Jumwa.

Details of the meeting were not disclosed but Ruto on Wednesday last week said he will not shy off from supporting a candidate of his choice since the ruling party was not fielding an aspirant.

Embattled Migori County governor Okoth Obado has exposed more dirty intrigues the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is using in his impeachment plot.

Obado who spoke to a local daily on Tuesday September 22, 2020 revealed a new scheme that has now been employed by the Raila Odinga-led range party.

According to Obado, there are plans to use the police and investigative agencies to threaten ward representatives and county officials opposed to ODM’s plans to kick him out over graft and murder cases that the County chief is facing.

He went ahead to reveal details of a meeting that was held over the weekend in Kisii town where Migori Senator Ochillo Ayacko allegedly met MCAs to give them an ultimatum to either support the ouster or be ready to face the consequences.

Obado claimed that during the Kisii meeting chaired by Ayacko, a 10-point impeachment motion was drafted with the help of a former magistrate.

He further claimed his rivals plan to use the police to cause chaos in the Assembly so that they can interfere with voting in the event the motion is finally tabled. The impeachment, sanctioned by ODM days after he was charged with graft has stalled for two weeks, amid tension and anxiety in Migori.

However, Ayacko who unsuccessfully ran against Obado in 2017 dismissed Obado’s claims.

Ayacko said the governor should instead carry his own cross. He also said he was not aware of any such plan, and termed the claims idle curiosity.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) bid to oust Migori governor Okoth Obado has taken a twist.

This is after a section of Migori Members of County Assembly allegedly fled the South Nyanza County over fear as tension continues to rise.

According to a report by one of the leading local dailies, a number of MCAs claimed the mission to kick out Obado may fail because of sharp divisions among Orange party MCAs, threats and intimidation as well as fears of a backlash from the residents.

With President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party plotting to join Raila Orange party in the ouster motion, a number of MCAs are said to have travelled out of Migori, with some claiming they were holding strategy meetings in Kisii, Kisumu and Nairobi in the wake of the developments.

Migori County Jubilee coordinator Mwita Nyangi on Friday September 4, 2020 asked Jubilee MCAs to support Obado’s ouster motion.

However, a section of Jubilee MCAs have refused to buy the idea. A section of them skipped a meeting organised in Kuria to rally them behind the ouster bid.

Yesterday, the Assembly’s minority whip Joseph Oyoo of Jubilee party dismissed attempts by the party to compel them to join ODM to oust Obado.

The Makario Ward MCA dismissed the party’s coordinator Mwita Nyangi who convened a meeting with other party officials from the county and said they would not support Obado ouster.

Several other MCAs claimed anonymously that the push to oust Obado was ill-informed and would not succeed.

There are fears that violence may erupt in the county should the leaders fronting for Obado’s ouster proceed with the move and table an impeachment motion against him.

Some MCAs claimed that the fear of violence erupting as a result of the planned exercise exceeds the wrath of the party should they fail to go against the party’s wishes.

One of the ODM MCAs said he had moved to Kisii to escape intense pressure at the county.

Muhuru MCA Hevron Mahira, who reported threats on his life on Wednesday said that he has moved to a safe place within the county.

He alleged that a few hours after reporting about threat on his life, he received more threats from a strange number for supporting the position of his party over Obado’s fate.

Do you think impeaching Obado will be a walk in the park?

A section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmakers from the coastal region are plotting to dump the Raila Odinga-led Orange party for a new political outfit.

This follows Raila’s  decision to back the third basis formula of revenue allocation across counties.

ODM’s Kilifi North MP Owen Baya, on Wednesday, July 29, announced that plans were well underway to launch a new political outfit for the Coast region.

He also revealed that legislators from various factions including the ruling Jubilee Party had been meeting regularly to iron out various details regarding the workings of the proposed party.

A week ago, ‘ODM rebel’ and Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa openly called for other coastal leaders to ditch the Raila-led party.

Coast Parliamentary Group Chairman, Galole MP Said Hirbae, backed his colleagues’ statement, adding that consultations were well underway.

ODM’s decision to overlook leaders from the region for coveted parliamentary committees was also mooted as a major reason behind the decision to break away.

Despite having not yet settled on a date for the launch of the party, the Kilifi North MP, while addressing the media, made it clear that their new political outfit would be launched before the 2022 General Elections

Members of Parliament affiliated to Deputy President William Ruto’s Tanga Tanga faction of Jubilee party have now taken their fight to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga’s doorstep, days after losing the fight to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The head of state has been carrying out a purge in the ruling party that saw tanga tanga affiliated members lose plum positions both in the senate and in the National Assembly.

This week, the MPs adopted changes in the National Assembly leadership, which saw Ruto allies kicked out of powerful house committees, with some like Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwah being demoted from lucrative Budget committee to catering.

After losing the fight to reclaim their positions in parliament, Ruto allies have now claimed that the ODM party is now running the government and must relinquish its Minority party positions in Parliament.

According to The Standard, Ruto’s camp now wants the plum positions that are being held by ODM, taken up by MPs in Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC) who would play the opposition role in both the National Assembly and the Senate.

Soy MP Caleb Kositany and his Aldai counterpart Cornelly Serem on Thursday July 16, 2020 announced plans to write to National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi to make a ruling on whether ODM should continue holding the positions after “joining the government and taking up Majority side slots.”

The two MPs declared that they were ready to move to the High Court to seek an interpretation of the current setup of Parliament and whether ODM should continue acting as the opposition.

Kositany argues that ODM is running the government and Kenyans cannot expect them to oversight the excesses of the same government.

Similar views were expressed by Serem, who said they are ready to take up the battle to kick out ODM MPs from Minority leadership positions as well as oversight committees held by the opposition.

Deputy President William Ruto was recently taken on a wild goose chase by Kilifi governor Amason Kingi, who, it is claimed, had agreed to meet the DP, but changed his mind at the eleventh hour without prior notice.

On the morning of Thursday, June 19, Ruto left Nairobi for Kilifi in a private jet and landed at Vipingo Airstrip. He was accompanied by his wife, Rachel, and one Farid Sheikh, a former banker who is in charge of the DP’s projects.

It is said before going to Coast, the DP had a phone conversation with the Kilifi governor, and there was an agreement for a secret meeting on the day of his arrival.

However, to the surprise of Ruto, Kingi was nowhere and his phones were switched off. Attempts by one of the DP’s aides, Farouk Kibet to trace Kingi through close contacts, did not bear any fruit.

It was not immediately clear why Kingi snubbed the DP whom he had promised to work with ahead of 2022 general elections. At a public rally in Kilifi early last year attended by Ruto, Kingi had declared he would team up with the DP and go round the country to gauge who between them was more popular to be a presidential candidate and the other will offer his support.

Political observers claim that Kingi, who is on his second and final term as governor, may have developed cold feet on Ruto for fear that associating with him now, could have provoked fresh investigations of corruption claims in his administration.

It is claimed Kingi has managed to weather many corruption storms in his administration, courtesy of interventions by his Mombasa counterpart Hassan Joho, who is said to be well connected within the investigative agencies and the system.

At the same time, the Kilifi county secretary Arnold Mkare is a bossom friend of a top detective, and it is claimed, this could have helped to hold files for a while. But insiders claim, the rot in the county government is unbelievable.

During the 2017 general election campaigns at Mariakani, Kilifi county, Uhuru Kenyatta had vowed that if reelected, Kingi was to be among the first bunch of governors to be locked in prison over corruption allegations.

Even though an ODM governor, Kingi has at many times been perceived as wanting to chart his own political destiny outside the Raila Odinga led party.

The governor, it is claimed, privately laments that despite the near 100% support Kilifi residents gave to ODM, there was no reward from the party in the form of a nomination slot either to the national assembly or Senate, leave alone the East African Legislative Assembly in Arusha.

Narok senator Ledama Olekina on Tuesday May 26 surrendered his senate Public Accounts Committee chairmanship seat.

This is after the vocal lawmaker met the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga this morning.

Ledama also agreed to withdraw the case he had filed against the ODM party following the party’s decision to remove him from the seat, and dewhip him.

Raila, through his official twitter account said that Ledama had agreed to the decisions after they held a meeting. Raila also revealed that the Narok senator had apologized to the party following his decision.

In return, the former Prime Minister said that he had instructed the party to reverse the decision to dewhip the Senator.

“Senator @ledamalekina has this morning agreed to withdraw the case he had filed against @TheODMparty over the Senate Public Accounts Committee chairmanship, surrendered the seat and apologized. In return I’ve instructed the party to reverse the decision to dewhip the Senator,” Raila tweeted.

Early this month, ODM through Minority Leader James Orengo, gave notice to discharge the senator from the County Public Accounts and Investments Committee (CPAIK).

Olekina contested and won the election against his party’s preferred candidate Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri after being backed by Jubilee senators.

He had already chaired the CPAIC’s first meeting when Senate minority leader James Orengo (ODM) gave a notice indicating the party’s wish to dewhip him from the CPAIC and the Senate Business Committee (SBC).

Olekina had vowed to fight the removal, a move that saw him file a case against the Orange party.

ODM chairman John Mbadi has revealed the fate of Raila Odinga led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party in the wake of a merger between President Kenyatta’s Jubilee and Gideon Moi’s KANU through a post-poll coalition.

Speaking to one of the leading TV stations Monday morning, Mbadi ruled out the possibility that the Jubilee-KANU coalition will negatively affect the close relationship between President Kenyatta and the ODM party leader.

According to Mbadi, the merger will instead strengthen the handshake which brought together the two leaders after the divisive 2017 general election.

Mbadi said that the agreement between ODM and Jubilee party was that each party should not dictate what the other party does.

“If Jubilee decides to go to any merger with Kanu, they are perfectly in order because it is not part of our concern,” Mbadi said.

He added that “Bringing more hands into Jubilee is helpful to the cause of both Jubilee and ODM.. at least for the two leaders who agreed to move this country forward. I don’t think as a party we feel threatened in any way with any arrangements that Jubilee gets into with any friendly party.”

Mbadi was responding to the current turmoil inside the Jubilee house.

The Suba South MP added that the agreement between ODM and Jubilee was not about merging but to address and solve the problems that have been facing the country through the handshake.

He, however, said that if Jubilee party would like to make a further arrangement with ODM ahead of the future elections, the party will discuss it.

“I will not rule out any such possibility because political parties are formed to acquire power and to govern,” he said.

Mbadi’s remarks come after talks of a possible coalition between Jubilee and Kanu after President Uhuru Kenyatta met with Kanu chair Gideon Moi.

The president summoned Jubilee senators for a meeting at State House on Monday. During the meeting, major changes were made in the Jubilee Senate leadership.

West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio was appointed the new Senate Majority leader.

Poghisio will now be deputised by Isiolo senator Fatuma Dullo Adan.

In the new changes, Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata has replaced Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika as the Majority Chief Whip.

Kang’ata will be deputised by Wajir nominated senator Farhiya Ali Haji.

State House spokesperson Kanze Dena-Mararon said 20 senators from both Jubilee and Kanu attended the meeting.

Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has dared the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party shortly after being kicked out of the powerful senate committee.

Taking to his twitter account Thursday afternoon, Ole Kina dared ODM to bring on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), which he said is set to kick of by the end of this month.

His daring message follows ODM’s decision to dewhip him from the Senate County Public Accounts and Investment Committee (CPAIC), just days after members allied to Deputy President William Ruto ganged up to vote in Ole Kina as the chair of the powerful committee.

Ole Kina further, in another post, noted that things are about to get nasty.

While noting that he had chaired his second meeting as the duly elected Chair of Senate Public Accounts Investment Committee, he urged Kenyans to ignore a letter from Senate Minority leader James Orengo, arguing that it has got no basis and must be treated with contempt.

“Today I chaired my second meeting as the duly elected Chair of Senate Public Accounts Investment Committee. The letter by @orengo_james has got no basis and must be treated with contempt! Because this committee is very powerful they want a push over not Me,” he tweeted.

In a letter dated May 7, 2020 addressing the senate speaker, Orengo issued a notice of the discharge and removal of Senator Ole Kina from the committee.

“In accordance with the senate Standing order 190, I hereby give notice of the discharge and removal of Senator Ledama Ole Kina from the County Public Accounts and Investment Committee and the Senate Business Committee,” reads the letter.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has dewhiped Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina from the Senate County Public Accounts and Investment Committee (CPAIC).

This comes just days after members allied to Deputy President William Ruto ganged up to vote in Ole Kina as the chair of the powerful committee.

This comes just a day after Ole Kina and Orengo settled the matter that almost brought chaos to the ODM party.

The argument between Ledama and ODM Minority Leader in the Senate James Orengo started on Tuesday following the new members to the County Public and Accounts Investment Committee being announced.

Ole Kina emerged the winner from the votes cast defeating his Kisii counterpart Sam Ongeri.

Following his win, Orengo disputed the outcome, saying the names of the new members were published in a rush when other issues were not resolved.

Ole Kina said that the move by Orengo was not in good faith yet he is a member of the ODM party.

But on Wednesday, Ole Kina said through a post on Twitter that the matter had been resolved.

He said that he held wide consultations regarding his election as the Senate CPAIC chairperson with Orengo and the ODM party leadership.

“I have had wide consultations on the issue of my election as chair of the Senate CPAIC with James Orengo and the ODM party,” Ole Kina said.

Ole Kina has also stated that his support for ODM leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta is solid and unshaken.
