Crime Scene tape

A 34-year-old man was stabbed to death in Kasarani, Nairobi, after attempting to intervene in a domestic dispute, police reported on Thursday.

The victim, Paul Maina, had visited a woman’s home on Wednesday evening, November 19, to repair faulty speakers. The woman, known to him, told officers that Maina was not romantically involved with her, contrary to claims later made by her partner.

According to a police report, Maina was leaving the house when the woman’s partner arrived. An argument broke out, during which the man allegedly attacked the woman.

Maina rushed back into the house to help separate the two, but the situation escalated. Police say the suspect allegedly drew a knife and stabbed Maina in the chest and stomach before fleeing the scene.

Maina was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

Manhunt Underway

Police say efforts to trace and arrest the suspect are ongoing. Officers revisited the crime scene on Thursday as part of the ongoing investigation. The woman involved has also recorded a statement with detectives.

Maina’s body was moved to a local mortuary for an autopsy and further procedures.

Authorities noted that incidents of fatal disputes linked to relationships, domestic arguments, property disagreements, and finances continue to rise. The homicide unit reportedly handles up to eight murder cases nationwide each day, with a number still unresolved.

Police disperse crowds at Kasarani ahead of Raila's body viewing

Police officers were on Thursday, October 16, 2025, forced to lob teargas and fire in the air to disperse a huge crowd at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, ahead of the body viewing of the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

This is after the crowd occupied the presidential dias at the venue, making it almost impossible for President William Ruto and other dignitaries to access the field.

The incident led to chaos, with at least three people reportedly getting shot dead. The officers spared no one, as a section of journalists was also targeted.

President Ruto is among a host of national leaders who have arrived at the Kasarani ahead of the public viewing ceremony for the late Raila Odinga.

Thousands of mourners had gathered at the stadium to pay their final respects.

This development came after a last-minute change to the original plan, which had scheduled the public viewing at Parliament buildings.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Cabinet Secretaries led by Kipchumba Murkomen (Interior), and several elected leaders from across the political divide had also arrived.

The abrupt shift to the programme was announced by the National Steering Committee. It was prompted by security and logistical concerns, with Kasarani offering a larger, more manageable space for the massive crowds expected.

A former Member of Parliament is set to serve a one year imprisonment.

John Chege, the former Kasarani lawmaker will serve the jail term should he default a Ksh. 1.3 million fine he has been slapped by the Court.

The ex-lawmaker was on Friday May 29 fined for soliciting and receiving a bribe of Sh 100,000.

In mitigation, Chege told the court that he is remorseful and urged the Court to be lenient as he has suffered greatly.

Anti-corruption court magistrate Lawrence Mugambi said the evidence on record proved that the offence was committed.

Chege was in 2013 arraigned and charged with soliciting a bribe.

According to the charge sheet, the former legislator, while at the Continental House parking yard in Nairobi, solicited Sh100,000 from Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi as an inducement to facilitate payment of Sh3.3 million for a completed Baba Dogo Secondary School tuition block.
