A woman identified as Scovia Muyekho is in trouble after giving a host slap to a neighbor. Appearing before Kibera Law Courts, it is said the woman slapped a young boy she found sitting outside her house to a point of loosening his teeth.

This was after she mistakenly accused him of throwing stones at her house. Evidence presented in court stated that, she willfully attacked the boy on September 27 and caused him bodily harm at a residential area in Lindi, Kibera Sub-county.

On the fateful day, the minor was sitting outside on the stone while his mother was away running her daily errands. There were also some children playing and throwing stones onto Muyekho’s house.

Infuriated by this behavior, she came outside to warn them but they had ran away. Since the victim was the only one found sitting outside, she bitterly accused him of something the boy didn’t do.

The bitter woman went back to her house only to come back and approach the minor from behind and gave him hot slaps that sent him sprawling on the ground. The boy ran to their home crying in pain, his two teeth had loosened as a result of the impact.

The mother came home later, found her son not feeling well. The boy narrated to his mother what had transpired. He experienced difficulties in eating and six days later, his uncle took him to the hospital where the loose teeth were removed.

On third October, the boy’s mother escorted him to Kibera Police Station to record a statement. The woman was arrested and charged before Kibera Principle Magistrate Sharon Maroro.

The accused denied the claims saying that the complainant had agreed to withdraw the matter but the Principle Magistrate could not approve withdrawal because the victim is a minor.

Muyekho was released on cash bail of Ksh 10,000 and the next mentioning will be on October 25.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party on Monday cleared 20 candidates who are set to battle in the forthcoming nominations ahead of the Kibra parliamentary by-elections.

The party’s National Elections Board vetted the 20 candidates ordering them to pay a nomination fee of Ksh 250,000 by today(Tuesday) noon.

However, Kenyans on twitter have caused a storm after they argued that one of the contestants in ODM’s nominations scheduled for Saturday 31st August is a renown goon.

Kicking off the debate, controversial blogger Robert Alai asked the party through its official twitter handle if criminals have the right to vie.

On Monday, another controversial blogger, Disembe Dikembe endorsed Brian Shem Owino, whom Kenyans are opposing following his criminal record.

In May last year, Mr Owino was a wanted man by police over an assault case. He was accused of assaulting a Nairobi businessman Timothy Muriuki.

Brian Shem Owino surrendered to police at Nairobi Area DCI hours after he and his accomplices lost a bid to stop their arrest. He was taken in for questioning and possible prosecution.

Nairobi DCI Nicholas Kamwende and his lawyer Edwin Sifuna confirmed Owino’s surrender.

Edwin Sifuna is the ODM secretary general, who on Sunday during the unveiling of the candidates at Kamkunji grounds in Kibera insisted that he was not going to allow any arrogant people to vie.

Owino and his four accomplices had moved to court seeking protection. Sifuna secured his release.

They were captured on camera manhandling the former Nairobi Central Business District Association (NCBDA) chairman at Hotel Boulevard on April 30.

They had moved to court saying their personal security was at risk and that they could be eliminated by the police or deported to an unknown destination on the fake grounds they are not Kenyans and sought anticipatory orders pending their arraignment.

But the court declined to issue the orders and ordered them to appear before police for processing. They said they were ready and willing to surrender to the police but were apprehensive of their personal security and that their anticipated charges were defective, had no basis in law and  were unconstitutional and unsustainable.

Brian Shem Owino will face other candidates in ODM nominations and if he makes it, he will carry the ODM flag and face other party’s candidates who among them are candidates from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee and Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC party.

The Raila Odinga-led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will on Saturday August 31, 2019 hold its nominations ahead of the Kibra Member of Parliament by-election.

Mr Odinga made the announcement on Sunday at a rally in Kibra in which he also revealed that at least 26 aspirants will battle it out for the party ticket.

Popular Reggae DJ and renowned MC Chrispinus Odhiambo poularly known as Kriss Darlin has finally opened up on why he knelt before ODM leader Raila Odinga on Sunday during an ODM rally at Kamkunji grounds in Kibera, Nairobi.

Kenyans on social media had heavily criticized the NTV Jam Rock show host, with some saying that he was pulling a publicity stunt.

But in a phone call interview with a local daily on Monday, the DJ said he was not pulling a publicity stunt by kneeling before the ODM party chief.

“Raila, having been the area as MP for over two decades and because Kibra is one of the ODM’s zones in the city, he will have the final say on who succeeds Okoth,”he was quoted by the local daily.

He, however, said the power of who will be elected as Kibra MP lies from the people of Kibra, not Raila solely.

“The people of Kibra have the final say. If elected I will represent the party, not just Raila,” he added.

Darlin said he believes he is the best candidate for Kibra as he was born and raised in Kibra and he resonates well with the challenges faced in the slum.

He said all his charitable projects are based in Kibra.

“I donate Sanitary towels to girls schools in Kibra constituency, I donate boxers to male children. I have a football tournament called Kriss darling Supercup that has been running for four years,” he said.

Darlin on August 21 presented his official documents to the ODM headquarters.

Raila however on Sunday ruled out direct nomination for its candidate for the November 7 Kibra Constituency by-election.

Raila said that ODM will hold its primaries on August 31.

The seat fell vacant after the death of MP Ken Okoth on July 26, 2019.

Raila unveiled 24 aspirants seeking the party’s ticket in the by-election.

ODM leader Raila Odinga has warned Deputy President William Ruto and his allies they risk being swept by a political storm should they oppose constitutional reforms proposed by the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

Raila said the BBI team was currently writing its report which will be made public next month for Kenyans to give further views before the country can go for a referendum which he declared will sweep away Tanga Tanga allies – a reference to Ruto’s camp.

“There are very good views from Kenyans and once the report is out, we will publish it for Kenyans to give their views then go for a referendum. I have seen a storm, there are signs that it will rain. There’s is a storm that will take all the Tanga Tanga people to the ocean,” said Raila amid cheers by the wild crowd at Kamukunji grounds.

Dr Ruto has publicly declared his opposition to any initiative seeking to expand the Executive through the creation of a Prime Minister position and two deputies.

Most of the submissions to the team formed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila have suggested expansion of the Executive.

Speaking in Kibra on Sunday, the Opposition chief described some of the views collected by the team as “very good” and asked Kenyans to back amendments to the 2010 Constitution.

He further asked people to ignore the Punguza Mizigo Initiative by Ekuru Aukot’s Thirdway Alliance which is currently before the 47 county assemblies.

“Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) is already writing its report and it will be made public next month. If they recommend a referendum, we will go for it. Those bringing other initiatives should be ignored,” said Raila.

The former premier spoke when he unveiled 24 aspirants seeking the party ticket in the Kibra by-election.
