Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party has unveiled its team that will face President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza in the bi-partisan parliamentary talks.

The Azimio team on Thursday held its Parliamentary Group meeting at the Stoni Athi hotel in Machakos County.

During the PG meeting, Azimio unveiled a team of seven allies that will lead in the negotiations with the ruling government.

The list of seven consists of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, his Narok counterpart Ledama Olekina, Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua, Amina Mnyanzi (Malindi), Millie Odhiambo (Suba North), David PKosing (Pokot South) and Otiende Amollo (Rarieda).

The meeting that was chaired by Raila was also attended by the coalition’s top leadership including Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua and her Wiper counterpart Kalonzo Musyoka.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta and KANU chairman Gideon Moi sent their apologies for failing to attend.

President William Ruto last week urged the opposition to call of the Monday and Thursday demonstrations, proposing a bipartisan approach to the issues raised by Azimio team.

Raila has, however, threatened to call for the demonstrations should the Ruto team show lack of seriousness in the negotiations.

The ODM party leader has proposed a National Accord approach as it was in 2008 during the post-election violence.

President Ruto’s allies have, however, vowed not to allow the national accord approach proposed by the former prime minister.

They argue that Raila wants to force his way into the government through a grand coalition form of government.

The Raila-led faction has reiterated the need to have the team expanded outside parliament as they maintained that they were not interested in sharing the government.

Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza has not yet released its list of the negotiators.

NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua has this morning tore into President Uhuru Kenyatta over his relationship with his Deputy William Ruto.

Karua told Uhuru to renew a proper working relationship with his deputy or for the Jubilee government to resign and go home to allow Kenyans elect new office-holders.

Karua, speaking on Citizen TV’s Day Break show said according to Law, the Presidency consists of the President and Deputy President hence both should relinquish their offices if they are unable to work together.

She thereby rubbished calls from a section of political leaders for DP Ruto to resign from government saying his (Ruto’s) and President Kenyatta’s roles are intertwined and one cannot leave office while the other stays on.

Karua slammed President Kenyatta for allegedly abandoning his deputy and throwing him out in the cold saying their mandates require them to work together for the good of the country even if they do not see eye-to-eye.

“The occupier of the Office of President must be conscious, at all times, that his mandate is together with his deputy, and if he feels that they can no longer work together, the government can resign and we will elect another president with his deputy,” said Karua.

The NARC Kenya party boss further questioned the Head of State on the example he is setting for other leaders, especially governors, on how to treat their deputies in cases of disagreements.

She posed, “My question to our president, with the greatest respect, is what precedent are you setting of how a president should treat a deputy? What examples are you giving to the governors on how to treat their deputies? We already had instances where some governors were using their power to oppress their deputies, are you now putting your stamp on such a practice?”

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party communication director Philip Etale has dragged Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua into events that led to the rigging of elections in 2007.

Taking to his official twitter account on Tuesday August 18, 2020, Etale revealed how Karua was used to block Raila Odinga from accessing KICC, where elections were being rigged from.

Etale noted that he was a senior reporter at Citizen TV by the time, saying that he witnessed how Martha Karua was being driven in a maroon Toyota V-8 and stopped to block Raila’s convoy to KICC on the evening of election theft.

He went further to accuse the woman leader of yelling at the former Prime Minister like a kid.

“I was a senior reporter @citizentvkenya in 2007. I witnessed@MarthaKarua, being driven in a maroon V-8 guzzler stop & block @RailaOdinga‘s convoy to KICC on the evening of Election Theft. She yelled at RAO like a kid. I have never forgotten this. Mama, stop playing a good mama,” Etale tweeted.

However, Karua in her response denied the allegations, arguing that Etale was peddling some paid falsehood. She also wondered how the ODM communication boss was still remembering the car she was being driven in.

Leader of Majority in the National Assembly Aden Duale has termed Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua’s Jubilee rigging claims as sheer lies.

Duale further stated that NARC-K never protested to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission or filed a petition with the Supreme Court on the alleged rigging and electoral malpractices.

“She lost to Governor Anne Mumbi (Waiguru) and must retire from politics graciously. She lacks the moral authority to discuss elections,” added Duale, adding that other losers in the region also claimed to have been rigged out in the Jubilee nominations.

“The highest court in the land (Supreme Court) found there were malpractices in the presidential poll and I believe I was equally a victim as a candidate in Kirinyaga, because the IEBC was unable to offer crucial records demanded of them by the court,” Karua had told K24’s punchline show host Anne Kiguta.

Former Jubilee Party vice chair David Murathe also dismissed Karua’s claims as sour grapes. He added that the NARC-K leader had previously won four times as MP and wondered why she was now protesting over her loss.

“If the election was rigged, how come then Senator Charles Kibiru, who ran as an independent candidate was not rigged out?” he posed, saying Karua was simply seeking sympathy after exhausting court avenues to overturn the Kirinyaga governor poll outcome.

Uhuru Kenyatta’s win in the August 2017 poll was subsequently voided by the Supreme Court on a split decision.

Although Jubilee disagreed with the Supreme Court’s decision, Uhuru and his running mate, William Ruto, agreed to participate in the October 2017 repeat poll boycotted by their main challenger, Raila Odinga of the National Super Alliance (NaSA).

Narc-Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua in an has admitted to being the reason behind Deputy President Dr  William Ruto’s firing in 2011.

Speaking during an interview with K24 on a show dubbed Punchline, Karua noted that this was after the then Agriculture Minister had been charged in a court of law for allegedly defrauding the Kenya Pipeline Company of over Ksh100 million.

She stated that she was the one who called for Ruto’s sacking in the national assembly due to the fraud case.

“Despite the case not succeeding in court, I remember asking a question in parliament as a backbencher to get the coalition government to sack him as a minister and they did,” Karua emphatically stated.

Karua further revealed that the case was dropped, not on merit but, because the main witnesses failed to show up to testify.

She also claimed that one of the witnesses had been allegedly bribed by being given a managerial position in a parastatal under Ruto’s agriculture ministry.

The former Justice Minister had earlier resigned from the coalition government as she claimed that she felt like a misfit in Mwai Kibaki’s cabinet.

In the same interview, Karua alleged that the DP’s security officials were heavily involved in her being rigged out of the Kirinyaga Gubernatorial position.

She was then asked to pick a leader to vote for if she had an option of Raila Odinga and William Ruto.

“Without even thinking about it I would pick Raila Odinga,” the former presidential aspirant concluded.

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru on Tuesday beat former presidential aspirant Martha Karua in a supreme court battle.

The bench ruled that the eloquent governor would continue carrying out her gubernatorial duties.

“God has been on our side, it was among the last case to be determined and I think. We won this election fairly, people of Kirinyaga put their trust in us,” Waiguru divulged.

“I think Martha Karua should finally accept and put this matter to rest, it is unfortunate that we have had to take two years of a court process that has costed a lot of money,” she added.
