Sabina Chege

Jubilee party nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege on Thursday, January 11, 2024, led a contingent of about 120 Jubilee MCAs to a meeting with President William Ruto.

The meeting was held at the Nakuru State House.

The former ruling party has about 127 MCAs.

Sabina Chege also led the party’s 28 NEC members to the meeting, renewing the leadership wrangles that have been facing the former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s party.

Jubilee has been faced with leadership wrangles for months now as two groups claim to be bona fide officials of the party.

One group has remained loyal to Raila Odinga-led Azimio la Umoja coalition while the other shifted allegiance to President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza.

The group led by Sabina Chege and former Kieni MP and now EALA MP Kanini Kega supports President Ruto and alleges to have left the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition.

Another faction led by Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has remained loyal to the Azimio la Umoja coalition party.

Jubilee Party nominated MP and the embattled National Assembly deputy minority whip Sabina Chege on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 attended Kenya Kwanza’s Parliamentary Group meeting that was held at State House, Nairobi.

A Jubilee Party rebel faction led by EALA MP Kanini Kega had earlier on named Sabina Chege as party leader, ousting Former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

However, a bid to re-establish party discipline and strengthen its ranks, the Jubilee Party on Monday expelled several party rebels, including Sabina Chege, Kanini Kega and Nelson Dzuya.

The Jubilee NDC held at Ngong Race Course gave the former President an opportunity to stamp his authority in the party amid an onslaught by Ms Chege and a faction led by Mr Kega.

The duo teamed up with a section of Jubilee-elected legislators to kick Uhuru off party leadership alongside Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, Vice chairman David Murathe and National Treasurer Kagwe Gichohi.

Kega would later issue a statement saying that the NDC convened by Uhuru was not recognized by the party and that the changes made would not have any impact.

However, Sabina Chege attended the Kenya Kwanza PG that was hosted by President William Ruto at State House on Tuesday.

The former Murang’a Woman Representative had over the weekend told President Ruto that they are orphans in Jubilee.

Speaking during an interdenominational church service at Isiolo Boys High School on Sunday, May 21, 2023, Ms Chege said the former President had neglected them.

At the same time, Chege pleaded with President Ruto, a former member of the Jubilee party, to accommodate Jubilee leaders when they knock on his door.

Eldas MP Adan Keynan who was elected on a Jubilee ticket was also among the rebel members that attended the Kenya Kwanza PG.

Kanini Kega and Kamkunji MP Yusuf Hassan, a Jubilee MP, also attended the State House meeting.

Her attendance has elicited mixed reactions on the internet considering the fact that she has been fighting for her position as the Azimio deputy minority whip.

Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party had resolved to kick her out of the position, but she survived after the National Assmbly speaker Moses Wetangula announced that she would retain her position until such a time when Azimio will convene a proper meeting and communicate her dismissal.

Below are some of the reactions from Kenyans on Twitter after Sabina Chege was spotted at State House during the Kenya Kwanza PG.

President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua Wednesday morning held a meeting with 32 Mps from Jubilee Party at State House, Nairobi.

Reports indicate that the meeting that kicked off at 8am has been attended by Jubilee members from both the National Assembly and Senate.

The Jubilee MPs have committed to work with the government.

Speaking during the meeting, President Ruto said his government was ready to work with anyone despite the political divide.

Ruto told the MPs that they were a family as they all were elected by Kenyans.

The notable politicians who met the president included Nominated MPs Sabina Chege, Margaret Kamar, MPs Yusuf Hassan (Kamukunji) and Adan Keynan (Eldas).

The meeting comes hours after the head of state met a section of Raila Odinga’s ODM MPs on Tuesday.

Among them were Phelix Odiwour – Jalang’o – (Lang’ata), Mark Nyamita (Uriri), Tom Ojienda (Kisumu), Shakeel Shabir (Independent – Kisumu Town East) and Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo).

The head of state has been on a charm offensive on the opposition side if the series of meetings with members of the Azimio coalition is anything to go by.

During his meeting with the nine ODM MPs from the Nyanza region, Ruto affirmed that the aim is to foster unity among the leaders to solve the challenges facing Kenyans.

Politicians from both sides of the Jubilee faction in Murang’a county were involved in planning and executing chaos in Kenol town, Murang’a, on Sunday October 4, an intelligence report has revealed.

According to the report seen by a local daily, Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege and former MCA Alex Mbote, who is now Governor Mwangi Wairia’s political advisor, planned the chaos.

It said Tangatanga-leaning MPs Alice Wahome (Kandara) and Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu) mobilised youths for a counterattack.

But the politicians rubbished the claims, terming rumours and diversionary.

“Those are rumours. That day I was not even near Kenol. Anybody saying that [that I was involved] wants to soil my name,” Mbote told the the local daily when contacted.

When reached for comment, Chege said, “I am not aware.”

Nyoro termed the report petty and diversionary, adding he had provided details to police of how some county politicians planned and executed the violence.

“The state must stop playing politics. Do they think Kenyans are fools? How could we have planned to disrupt our own function? How possible is that? Or they are saying we still disrupted [the DP’s event in] Nyamira?” Nyoro asked.

Wahome did not respond to phone calls and a text message by the local daily seeking her comment on the report.

According to the report, Mbote was allegedly tasked by Chege to mobilise youths to disrupt the DP’s function.

It said Mbote planned the attack at a hotel in Thika Town. He met about 30 men, referred to as unit leaders, whom he had mobilised to execute he chaos.

“Mr Mbote, who was the ring leader, tasked each member to mobilise 10 youths for the task ahead. They took lunch and some drinks and Mr Mbote paid via pay bill number over Sh15,000,” the report reads.

Later, Mbote called Chege, who instructed that they meet at a club within Murang’a county. The woman rep was with other politicians from the county the report read.

At the meeting, Mbote demanded Sh3 million from the lawmakers but they negotiated and settled on Sh1.5 million. He drove to another club where he met another politician who gave him the cash.

On that Sunday, Mbote is said to have hired a taxi, the one he had used the day before, to Thika town where he met the 30 unit leaders – each at different times. He gave them cash for logistics and down payments.

“On October 10, 2020…. youths (goons) were ferried by several matatus from Kiandutu slums of Thika, Weitethia, Mugoiri and Kiriainito, Kenol where they alighted at Makenji area of Kabatito the venue,” the report read.

MPs Wahome and Nyoro, who had got wind of the planned chaos, according to the report, mobilised youth from Kandara and Kangema and others from Nairobi county from where they were ferried to counter Mbote’s team.

Top Transport ministry officials were on Wednesday September 2, 2020 sent away by National Assembly committee on health, saying the team was unprepared to respond to its questions.

The Sabina Chege-chaired committee said the Transport ministry officials who appeared before them were not adequately prepared.

The Transport ministry was represented by Health CAS Chris Obure during the afternoon session.

He appeared before the committee to explain the ministry’s role in the clearing of Jack Ma Foundation donations.

Obure had told the committee that all the donations were cleared exclusively by the government clearing agency.

“The document before us from the ministry is not well prepared. We need to compare what was donated, what was received and what actually ended up in the warehouse,” Chege said.

The Health committee probing the loss of Covid-19 funds demanded written submissions.

Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny said the ministry is not prepared to face them in regards to the questions they have.

“…when we have people come here with half baked information, it causes tension,” he said.

“I will appeal that any institution invited here, if they are not prepared, they need to go back. I know you are experienced, you should not panic.”

Kutuny said the public should be fed with enough information on the investigations.

“I want to appeal to the government that they fine tune their communication,” he said.

Chege asked Obure to go and prepare himself and come back with facts.

“If we have this gaps you will keep Kenyans guessing. We will see you tomorrow at 9:30am on Thursday,” she said.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has dragged Murang’a Woman Rep Sabina Chege into IEBC official Chris Msando’s murder.

Speaking during his much anticipated press conference on the matter, the controversial MP said Sabina Chege had accompanied him to Roysambu at the time when he was photographed standing next to Msando’s car.

He however denied knowing any information saying he had gone there after unidentified women informed him that they had spotted the IEBC official’s car at a time when he was said to have been missing.

Kuria further said he and Chege later recorded statements with DCI on what they knew.

I had had to live with a barrage of accusations and innuendos that linked mt to the death of Chris Msando. This was because I had taken a photo of Msando somewhere in RoysambuI want the media to know on that day, there was reporting that Chris Msando had disappeared. Citizen TV circulated a photo of his vehicle. I was in Murang’a County on that day campaigning and after we were done, a media personality covering our campaign informed me that Msando’s vehicle had been found in Roysambu.

I was in the company of among others, Murang’s Woman Rep Sabina Chege. We called the OCPD Kasarani Police Division even before getting to the scene. I and Sabina Chege were later escorted to the scene, all along we were in the company of police officers. Withing two days, myself and Sabina were summoned by DCI Nairobi area and recorded statement,” Kuria said.

The MP called on the media and members of the public to forthwith cease linking him with the murder of Chris Msando which he said was unfairly tarnishing his reputation.

There was a plan by Kandara Member of Parliament Alice Wahome and some other tanga tanga leaders to heckle President Uhuru Kenyatta during Charles Rubia’s burial, Murang’a County women representative Sabina Wanjiru Chege has revealed.

However, Wahome’s plan flopped since things did not go as she expected.

Chege who has been quoted by People’s Daily says that this is the main reason Wahome is very bitter at President Kenyatta.

“We know what had been planned but things did not go as planned and that’s why she is very bitter,” she said.

While condemning Wahome’s remarks on Uhuru, Chege said its a shame that the leaders from the central region, which is a strong hold of the President, have continuously been attacking him for no good reason.

“I don’t understand why all the blame is being put on the President while he runs the government with his deputy who also should be held accountable,” she said.

“We don’t have two governments and thus the leaders should not be attacking Uhuru alone,” she added.

She spoke at Kenol town on Friday as she issued cheques to bright and needy students who are sponsored by Sabina Wanjiru Foundation.

On Thursday, Wahome claimed President Kenyatta wants to cling on to power after the expiry of his term in 2022.

Ms Wahome described the President as “the biggest threat to Kenya’s economy, democracy and freedom of expression”.

She also alleged that President Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga were planning to use the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) to cling on to power after 2022.

Murang’a County Representative Sabina Chege apparently shares a similar characteristic with Deputy President Dr William Ruto.

Speaking during Kikuyu benga musician, the late John Ng’ang’a famously known as John DeMathew’s burial ceremony in Gatanga, Murang’a County on Saturday, Chege declared herself the original hustler in the presence of the DP.

“I your excellency the Deputy President when you see today I am called the County Women Representative, I started far. As you are called hustler, I am the hustler original because I started when I was still a very young girl and today you have seen that I sang with John De’ Mathew. I was an actor in a program called Tausi and later met John DeMathew when I was a broadcaster

“(Mimi your excellency the Deputy President ukiona leo naitwa Mama wa kaunti, nimeanza mbali. Ukiitwa hustler, mimi ndio ule hustler original kwa sababu mimi nilianzia nikiwa msichana mdogo sana na leo umeona niliimba nyimbo na John DeMathew. Mimi nilikua actor wa tausi nikawa mtu ambaye alikua wa michezo ya kuigiza, na kutoka hapo nikiwa broadcaster nikakutana na John DeMathwew),” she said.

She further denied having had romantic encounter with Benga maestro John De Mathew’s who was buried on Saturday.

A local publication claimed that Ms Chege had love relationship with the musicians, who was involved in an accident along Thika Road last week.

But speaking at Murang’a on Saturday during the burial, Chege accused the media of disrespect, arguing that the information was propaganda.

The second term legislator said she worked with De Mathew’s as a producer and their working relationship was professional. She had appeared in one of songs as video vixen.

She said had she sired with the deceased, the child would have attended the funeral to pay tribute to the fallen musician at his ancestral home.

“I was not involved in any romantic relationship with the Late De’Mathew. Yes, he was my good friend, but not a lover. I respect myself, I respect De’Mathew’s family.”

“If we, indeed, had a relationship, which yielded a son, then that child would be here today for his father’s burial. I am a married woman, who has children, and I respect my husband and my children. I, therefore, urge the media, [especially blogs], to refrain from publishing fabricated allegations. The media should, instead, be sensitive and respectful to De’Mathew’s family,” said Chege.
