Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has send his heartfelt condolences to the family of legendary rhumba music singer Juma Toto following his sudden death.

In his message of condolences posted via his official twitter handle, Raila described Toto as a most gifted and prolific musician.

He said death has not only robbed the family but also the country, Africa and the music industry.

“The death of legendary rhumba singer Juma Toto has robbed the country, Africa and the music industry of one of its most gifted and prolific musicians. I join Juma’s fans in mourning his sudden death. May God grant peace and strength to his family at this moment of grief,” Raila wrote.

Toto will be fondly remembered by many older music lovers for a popular song ‘FC Gor Mahia’, which he composed in honour of the Kenyan soccer giants in the early 1970s.

Until his death at the age of 70 on Tuesday night at the Kenyatta National Hospital, the soft-spoken Toto, who mentored many into stardom, was the chairman of the Kenya Musicians Union (Kemu), an organisation bringing together both long-serving and up-and-coming artistes.

Toto died of suspected brain haemorrhage after he accidentally fell and injured his head last week

Toto was in the class of a few surviving veteran musicians, who in the 1960s and into 1980s excelled with performances of popular dance beats at various hotels across the country.

His contemporaries include David Amunga, Shem Tube, John Nzenze, Fanuel Amimo and Peter Akhwabi.

Victor Kinuthia, a Citizen TV reporter from Murang’a County has been the talk of the internet since last night when Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro was arrested.

Kinuthia who was put on a live link during prime time breaking news fumbled with his English while trying to explain how Ndindi Nyoro was arrested.

Kenyans flocked the internet with criticism, laughing off Victor for lacking good command of English language at such a prime time.

Some went ahead to do a challenge on the same, but was this right?

Well, some argue that the Inooro TV reporter was just ambushed to do the live link.

But Citizen TV’s editorial director Joe Ageyo has come out to defend the reporter, saying that he did his best. Ageyo argues that he has bone live links for 21 years and it is no walk in the park.

He says Victor found himself in a breaking news situation and gave it his best, being his first live report ever.

” I’ve done this for 21 years and I can tell you it’s no walk in the park. Victor found himself in a breaking news situation and gave it his best- his first live report of that kind. He’s destined for greatness. Truly proud of him,” posted Joe Ageyo.

Ageyo was replying to a Kenyan who had raised concerns over Victor’s live reporting.

“I’m nt a jrnalst, bt frm a layman’s point of view, this is a very poor feed. Ur reporter dsn’t hav gud command of Eng lnguage, fumbled a lot. I couldn’t quite make wht he was trying to explain. Wth the likes of @LinusKaikai, @Fchurii, @YvonneOkwara @jageyo i thnk RMS can do beta,” Samson Owiti, a twitter user had posted.

Street anthem bangers Ochungulo Family are set to release another jam following the pressure mounted to them by Kenyans over the weekend.

The ‘kaa na mama yako’ hit makers were pressured to compose something on the trending ‘mbigijii imekulwa na ndogi’ Meru community words, which loosely translates to Big gee has been eaten by the dog.

Just like the ‘makeki mainge’ young boy, another boy was speaking surprisingly on how a dog can eat a chewing gum, and Kenyans demanded a hit from Ochungulo Family, just like they did a hit from Governor John Lonyangapuo’s famous quote, ‘kama akuna kaa na mama yako, usikuje apa’.

Kicking off the debate was DJ Joe Mfalme who tweeted asking the music group to give Kenyans a remix, whereby one of the group members Nelly the Goon replied saying that they have already recorded the jam.

Nelly the Goon later shared the teaser of the song, telling Kenyans that the jam was comming soon. The Mbigijii imekulwa na ndogi instrumentals have been made and produced by dez kuru.

Listen to the whole instrumentals below.

WCB Wasafi’s finest Rayvanny has come out to strongly condemn the ongoing xenophobic attacks in South Africa through his newest jam ‘No Xenophobia’.

In the song that was released on Thursday morning, Rayvanny urges Africans to open their eyes and minds to see what is going on in South Africa.

He says love is everything since we have same color, same kind, since we are children of ‘Mama Africa’.

The bongo star further urges those engaging in the ongoing killings to stop burning and killing Africa.

The attacks have brewed a culture war between South Africa and its continental neighbours.

Although the majority of the deceased were South Africans, that hasn’t stopped a fierce international condemnation coming our way.

The attacks have also triggered violence and widespread looting of South African-owned brands in Nigeria.

Protesters set fire to many entrances leading into a busy mall housing South African retail store Shoprite and looted groceries and toiletries from the supermarket in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial center.

Another outlet belonging the chain and one owned by South African mobile company MTN were vandalized in Ibadan city in southwest Nigeria on Tuesday despite appeals from the government for peace.

Many other stores owned by Nigerians were also plundered in the raids, which Rayvanny is seemingly addressing.

Diana Marua and singer hubby,Kevin Bahati, have finally unveiled their son’s face. Marua’s baby daddy is now a father of four. Three biological kids with two different baby mamas and adopted son.

The little angel was born a few weeks ago but Kenyans didn’t get a chance to see baby Majesty at that time. However there is a clear resemblance with his bigger siz, Heaven. The names given to Bahati’s child are quite holy and unique if I may say so. To remain a trending personality, the parents of baby Majesty saw that he became a brand ambassador of a local hospital whatsoever.

Stivo Simple Boy became famous for his hit song ‘Vijana tuache mihadarati’, a song that advocates for all youths to shun drug abuse. But what comes to your mind when you first hear the term mihadarati? Well, some will think of bhang, cafein, heroine and all other hard drugs. However, some will think of alcohol.

On tuesday morning, Stivo Simple Boy was the talk of the internet when netizens spotted him taking alcohol at a certain drinking joint.

The Vijanaa hit maker was in the company of some other artists, among them being Jua Cali.

Kenyans on twitter took on Kibera’s finest, questioning what he meant by singing Vijana tuache mihadarati.

According to some, mihadarati, which loosely translates to drugs is only bhang as per Stivo’s understanding.

Some are now saying that drugs has to leave youths rather than the youths leaving the drugs.

Here are some of the reactions that have exploded the internet.

Anywhere you go, shout Wamlambez and definitely you’ll get a reply, Wamnyonyez. These statements have become part of our culture and ain’t nobody can ban us from uttering them anywhere we go be it locally or countrywide.

The most annoying part is, artists release music appealing to the ears of Kenyans only for the hits to get banned for airplay after some time.

I mean this is an indication of high levels of pretense or hypocrisy by those running the MCSK.

Kwani nyinyi ndio saints nini? Recently the head of Kenya Films and Classification Board (KFCB) Ezekiel Mutua went to twitter saying that the song wamlambez Wamnyonyez has been banned but Kenyans didn’t take it quite easy.

For the longest years now, MCSK has been paying peanuts to artists a clear indication that some fishy business usually goes on in there. Maybe they fill their pockets with artists money which is really annoying considering the amount of time effort they put to come up with a hit song.

For four months now, we’ve been listening to wamlambez Wamnyonyez until the guy decided to throw the bomb terming it as sexually explicit. Why then allow music from abroad to air then ban our own? Look for instance songs Cardi B or Nicki Minaj and other musicians from the international level release, the videos are way to dirty for some audiences. But our song wamlambez, a song which everyone sings the chorus along, from the young to the elderly, someone decided to wake up one morning and banned it!

Kama siko wrong najua even Ezekiel Mutua himself finds himself humming the chorus in his mind sometimes.

Why should he bring his stress to work? Why would he ban some songs that young upcoming artists have worked on, of which they turn out to be bangers? We as Kenyans haven’t raised issues about the hit song,in fact we like it and we will always dance to it while singing along for a very long time now. Even people in the diaspora are trying to sing it,this shows if Mutua can only stop killing artists dreams,we could be recognized internationally.

Sailors killed it and made a hit song of the year. My fellow country men, Wamlambez Wamnyonyez ain’t going nowhere, it’s here to stay for the longest time. The feeling that it brings when you are at a party or any other social function then the coordinator shouts Wamlambez, the crowd will reply with Wanyonyez and its simply exhilarating.

Wamlambezzz……..

Kenyans are critics for everything especially if you are a person of interest. Recently Singer and politician Jaguar took trolls from fellow country men concerning the dead plane he bought calling it scrap metal.

Many were mesmerized after the musician cum politician took to social media to show off his newly acquired old plane. Jaguar bought the 5H-SKT, which was one of the planes that were being auctioned by KAA for a throw-away price of ksh 120,000 being listed as the cheapest among others.

However he is currently using it as a decoration in his lavish home for it has been painted before we know what other plans he has for it.

Huddah Monroe recently confessed on how dryspell was killing after managing to abstain from sex for two good months.

She revealed this on her Instagram stories saying that she really needed someone to nyandua her properly,60 days was no joke. The socialite went on to say the reason behind this was because she was practicing self control. This came as a shock to many Kenyans who really doubted this due to the reputation Huddah carries.

Monroe however confessed that she would really love to try younger boys mjulubeng, which she believes would satisty her and quench her dryspell.

“I have not had my conjugal rights in two months. Practicing self-control in this sinful world. 18-year-old boys looking like snacks. I want to eat them all” she said.

As usual, Kenyans never lack something to comment due to how Huddah has been in the news for sex-related scandals. Kenyans trolled her claiming that there’s no way she could have hit a month.

Here are the comments:

bellaaluoch,,,They’re only called conjugal rights when you’re married. For single people it’s fornication LOL😂

The life of celebrated Kikuyu maestro John Ng’ang’a Mwangi popularly known as John De’ Mathew was tragically cut short on Sunday in a grisly car crash.

His sudden death on the night of August 18 2019, came after his car rammed into a trailer while driving his Nissan Navara pick-up near Blue Post Hotel Thika.

De’ Mathew had attended a fundraiser in Thika town which was in aid of his fellow Kikuyu artist Peter Kigia’s child’s medical bill.

He was pronounced dead at Thika Nursing Home where he was rushed for treatment.

The country’s top leadership led by President Uhuru Kenyatta, his deputy William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga sent their condolences to the man they described as a brilliant and talented artist who enlightened the youth on culture and current affairs.

He stands as the most influential artist from Central Kenya with 375 songs and 50 albums.

De’ Mathews was born in Gathiru-ini village, Mukurwe-ini sub-location, Gatanga Constituency in Murang’a County over 50 years ago.

He was the son of Mathew (Hence De’ Mathew) and the late Wanjiku.

He is the fourth born in a family of eight kids.

De’ Mathew schooled in Mukurwe-ini (now Githambia) Primary School before proceeding to Naaro Secondary in Kandara and later Igikiro Secondary School.

He worked in the streets of Nairobi before venturing into his music career.

He hawked vegetables at Nairobi’s Soko Mjinga market, then sold meat in Kariobangi and later left to Nakuru where he sold plastic shoes (Sadak).

The benga artist composed his first song while still in Standard 7.

He was introduced to full-time music career by Timona Mburu and Joseph Wamumbe who helped him to release his first single “Jenifer” in December 1986 and in August 1987, he released “My Dear Nduku”, produced by Albert Gacheru (Wa Maitu).

“My Dear Nduku” was the hit that brought him to the limelight of the music industry.

His (own) favourite songs are “PIN Number” and “Muoyo Ti Kibandi”.

His best selling song was “My Dear Nduku” and “Njata Yakwa” which he performed with the current Murang’a Women Rep. Sabina Wanjiru Chege (who he says was never his girlfriend but just a pillar in his music career).

“I have seen you grow as a person and in the music industry,” Chege posted on her Facebook page.

However, piracy started eating up their resources in 1992.

The Benga Kikuyu legend was married to two wives and had three kids.

De’ Mathew found himself on the wrong side of the law in July 2012 together with two other Kikuyu artists who were charged with hate speech.

The other two were John Muigai (Muigai wa Njoroge) and  Mark Kamande wa Kioi.

John was among the loved Kikuyu artists who used his music career to pass messages to the community.

De’ Mathew’s death comes hardly a year after the death of another iconic Kikuyu benga musician Joseph Kamaru, who was from the same county of Murang’a.

Kamaru died at the age of 79 on October 3, 2018, at MP Shah Hospital in Nairobi, where he was receiving treatment.

The Music Copyright Society of Kenya has been forced to defend itself following an attack from Kenyan artistes and their fans after it was discovered that they offered Sh2,500 each to the musicians as royalties.

The outcry came after popular musicians Khaligraph Jones and King Kaka posted on their social media pages of their M-Pesa messages which showed they received  Sh2,500  for their hard-earned work.

In a series of tweets which they later pulled down, MCSK said they distributed royalties to all their 13,967 members.

“It’s PPP distribution [Performance in Public Places] these are collections from public places for only two months,” MCSK said.

The organisation said it had not received a dime from any broadcasters who exploit music.

“We made a general distribution because if we strictly followed scientific distribution then 70% of the money collected will be paid to the international societies. We all know that Kenyan music receives little airplay. The figures you’d receive would be less,” reads the tweet.

Kenya’s top rapper Khaligraph Jones on Tuesday, took to Instagram to tell off MCSK over the small pay.

The Juu ya Ngori hitmaker even went further to give authorisation for his music to be pirated.

“MCSK Siku Moja Tutakuja Kuwavuruga uko Mbaya Sana, Msijaribu kunitumia izi peanuts tena. In fact, I have given authorization for my music to be pirated, Don’t collect money on my Behalf anymore, Nisiskie mmeshika mtu akicheza Wimbo zangu kwa street, msinitumie izo peanuts zenu tena, The OG shall be respected,” Khaligraph posted.
