Homa Bay Town member of parliament Peter Kaluma was on Wednesday engaged in a fight during the morning session at the National Assembly.

The MP disagreed with his Marakwet East counterpart Kangogo Bowen and caused a scuffle on the floor of the House. They had to be separated through the intervention of Majority Leader Aden Duale and the sergeants at arms.

The two were seen engaging in a bitter quarrel which involved pushing and shoving before they were finally separated by their colleagues.

The two legislators seemed to have disagreed over the incident where Kwale Woman Representative Zulekha Hassan entered the chambers carrying her infant.

Mwea MP Kabinga Wachira and Migori Senator Ochillo Ayacko were also involved in the fight but later walked away.

MPs thrown out of Parliament

The Speaker did not take notice of the fight as he was attempting to bring order to the House after unrest caused by the stunt with the Kwale woman rep.

Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi, who tried to defend MP Zulekha, was also asked to leave the chambers for being disorderly.

Hillary Barchok will be sworn in as the Bomet governor on Thursday to replace Joyce Laboso who was buried last Saturday.

Barchok faces a daunting task of picking a deputy as pressure mounts that he should pick a woman as his deputy.

The push for a female deputy is from women leaders and some residents.

High ranking individuals in the Jubilee party are keeping an eye on the matter and want Barchok to appoint a woman, not necessarily from the Laboso family.

Among the women likely to take the seat are the county chief of staff Jayne Sigilai, Joyce’s sister Judy Laboso, former Woman Representative Cecilia Ngetich and former senatorial aspirant Stacy Chepkemoi.

Also in the list is the county Education CEC Juliana Yegon, a former principal of Moi Siongiroi Girls’ School.

Ngetich vied for the Sotik parliamentary seat in 2017 but lost to Dominic Koskei.

The deputy governor’s seat is likely to go to Sotik where Laboso came from for fairness in the sharing available leadership positions at the county.

Chepkemoi is among the 15 nominees picked by Jubilee for East African Legislative Assembly position. She failed to secure the seat.

The 26-year-old Maseno University international relations and diplomacy graduate is a former employee at the county government.

She worked as a resource mobiliser in former governor Isaac Rutto’s administration before quitting to join politics.

She is also the current Bomet youth president.

Sigilai is Laboso’s cousin, but little is known about her.

Before politics, Ngetich served as the principal of a number of schools. In 2009, the Nairobi-based Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa appointed her the director.

Men who had lined up for the position have since chickened out after women put up spirited demands that Barchok should be deputised by a woman.

Former Chepalungu MP Paul Bii and Bomet county assembly speaker Shadrack Rotich are among potential picks.

During the  Laboso’s burial at her Koru matrimonial home in Kisumu on Saturday,  Governors Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga) and Charity Ngilu (Kitui) said the only way to ensure that the will of the Bomet people of bestowing confidence in a woman by electing a woman as a governor was to have another woman as a deputy.

Waiguru in her eulogy pointed out that there were many able women, hence the need to set the now vacant position for a woman.

She noted: “I know there are some balancing (act to do) but we humbly request that you choose a woman as your deputy. Pick a woman as a deputy, one from Sotik and preferably choose from her family…look at the extended family of Laboso.”

Ngilu echoed the same sentiment calling on Barchok to “honour us by giving us a woman” noting they will be watching over it.

Barchok avoided the talk only saying he will strive to deliver on the wishes of the late governor.

“I will ensure madam governor’s agenda to the people of Bomet is realised,” he said.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto did not speak on the issue but ODM leader Raila Odinga told Barchok that the position automatically belongs to a woman.

“A woman was a governor and a man was her deputy, now when the woman governor has left the position it is automatic that a woman would become a deputy governor. I don’t think that should be an issue,” he stated.

Nairobi Women Representative aspirant Karen Nyamu has left the social media streets talking after the photos of her smoking weed in public emerged.

Karen Nyamu who was among the key contestants for the Nairobi Women Rep Position which is currently held by Esther Passaris, revealed her wild side by joining a hundred of fans during the famous Koth Biro Tournament at Umeme Grounds in Ziwani, Nairobi.

She was caught on camera hanging out with ‘ghetto boys’ and also smoking weed with them in public.

This has elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans. Most of the people just asking the government to legalize weed.

Damn, legalise it

— gerald kieti (@ghkieti) August 5, 2019

Ni kienyewe kimenishika

— Martin Mwangi (@wakahum) August 5, 2019

While others have questioned the morality of Karen Nyamu of smoking weed in public yet it has not declared legal in Kenya yet.

— IreneNM #TuJadili (@TuJadili) August 5, 2019

Huyu ni mama ama Bibi ya mtu ?

— Mint Condition (@Frankayub) August 5, 2019

But Karen Nyamu likes controversy. In 2017, she posted a video of her creamy ass  which took over the internet by storm. She was actually selling her manifesto using her behind but seemingly she did not appeal to the thirsty team mafisi.

Kakamega County governor Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya who chairs both Council of Governors (CoG) and Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) is set to resign as LREB chairman.

Oparanya while announcing his intention to resign from the post explained that the responsibilities of chairing both the bloc and the CoG have become overwhelming.

Oparanya further notes that he has been delegating majority of his LREB duties to his deputy Professor Philip Kutima due to numerous CoG meetings in Nairobi.

The bloc consists of 14 counties: Kakamega, Bomet, Bungoma, Busia, Kericho, Homa Bay, Kisii, Kisumu, Migori, Nandi, Nyamira, Siaya, Trans Nzoia and Vihiga.

LREB was launched in 2015 as an instrument of fast-tracking development projects within member counties. Each county would contribute to an LREB Bank, which is yet to be formed, and funds would be used to facilitate their agenda.

The bloc has received opposition from lobby groups which are calling for public participation before member counties pass the LREB Bill into law.

Dr Reuben Savai, 70, whose attempts to run for the presidency in 1997 and 2002 were thwarted by the electoral commission is dead, his son Mr Daniel Lihanda said on Sunday.

Despite securing six degrees and a diploma, the controversial politician still could not secure formal employment in Kenya.

MAKERERE UNIVERSITY

Dr Savai, who holds six degrees from Greece and a diploma from Makerere University in Uganda, was barred from contesting for the top seat by the defunct Electoral Commission of Kenya in the 1997 and 2002 elections.

After failed attempts, the Kenya Republican Reformation Party leader’s effort to secure a formal job also hit a dead end.

Some of his academic credentials include Diploma in Theology, Law degree and two Bachelor of Education degrees, one in Arts and another in Science.

His family says he was barred from practicing law in Kenya because he had not graduated from the Kenya School of Law.

Dr Savai, who had wanted to vie against retired Presidents Daniel arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki, was disqualified because he lacked prerequisite materials.

In the 1990s, he participated in the formation of Forum of Restoration and Democracy (Ford) party, during the re-introduction of multi-party democracy in the country.

In 1997, Dr Savai contested for the Lang’ata parliamentary seat and lost to ODM leader Raila Odinga, who was then leader of National Development Party.

LANG’ATA

Lang’ata constituency has since been split into two constituencies – Lang’ata and Kibra – following the review of boundaries ahead of the 2013 General Election.

Mr Lihanda told Nation that his father was found dead in his shanty in a suspected stroke attack.

Mr Lihanda said his father never got any formal employment in Kenya despite the rich education background and his involvement in politics.

“He studied abroad and got one diploma and six degrees. When he returned to Kenya, he did not secure employment and ventured into politics. When he lost his bid for Lang’ata parliamentary seat, he also tried seeking a job but was not successful,” said Mr Lihanda.

He said his father was struggling with high pressure amid glaring poverty.

He said the politician’s family had raised only Sh30,000 out of the Sh130,000 needed to meet funeral expenses.

POVERTY

“We are calling upon well-wishers and politicians he interacted with to help us meet funeral expenses,” said Mr Lihanda.

Another son, Mr Abinayo Kivisi said the late Moses Mudavadi, father of Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi, asked his father to return to Kenya after promising to help him secure a job.

“My father left Greece only to come home to struggle and lead a poor life,” said Mr Kivisi.

He added: “I have made attempts to reach President Kenyatta and his deputy (William Ruto) but I have not been successful. We really need their help.”

The late Kibra MP Ken Okoth’s body was on Saturday morning cremated at Kariokor in presence of his family. However, the legislator’s mother, Angeline Ajwang allegedly skipped the cremation of his son’s body.

According to Okoth’s nephew Evans Oluoch, Angeline was against the cremation idea. Oluoch who spoke to Citizen TV said that Oluoch’s mother insisted up to the last minute that his body should be buried.

The mother is was also allegedly not involved in the cremation plans.

“Actually, the family did not meet because if the family met then Ken’s mum should have been there. If the family met, some of the relatives should have been there.Unfortunately, we just got the news yesterday on TV when Sifuna said that the family had agreed to cremate Ken and I’m really shocked because even his mum was never involved in this.” he remarked.

Oluoch further revealed that ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga had agreed to provide a chopper that would carry Okoth’s body. However, this was not to be.

“Plans were already underway and everything was set.The villagers were waiting. Some of the relatives did not come to Nairobi because they knew very well that the body is going to Kabondo. To our surprise, everything just changed last evening. We heard that the body is going to be cremated yet Ken’s mum fully disagreed. She really wanted the body to be buried next to her house,” he added.

He explained that the decision to cremate the deceased lawmaker was carried out by two family members together with his wife, Monica Lavender Okoth.

Fallen Kibra MP Hon. Ken Okoth’s remains have already been cremated this morning in accordance with his wishes and in the presence of his family.

Taking to twitter Saturday morning, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party said that his family was present during cremation.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, a Spokesperson for the family, who is also their legal representative in a case filed at the Milimani Law Courts by Ann Thumbi who claimed to be a mistress to the deceased had revealed on Friday that the body would be cremated today.

Sifuna said, “we no-longer have a dispute because the matter has been settled. She was allowed to extract DNA samples from the body before interment.”

Thumbi had obtained orders blocking a cremation, burial or any manner of disposal of Okoth’s body pending the hearing and determination of her case.

Sifuna told journalists that the two sides had agreed to have DNA samples extracted from the body to determine if he is the father of Thumbi’s five-year-old son.

“The consent has been adopted by the magistrate and now there is no dispute,” Sifuna said, “This was agreed after long talks on Thursday night presided over by ODM leader Raila Odinga and Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.”

In the order earlier issued by a Magistrate’s Court, Ken’s mother Angeline Okoth, his wife Monica Okoth had been barred from undertaking any funeral rites for the deceased until the case is heard and determined. Lee Funeral Home where his body was preserved was also named as the third respondent.

In her suit papers, Thumbi said she was angered by the family’s failure to recognize her son to be listed as one of the beneficiaries of the deceased’s property.

One wants to feel confident and comfortable when visiting a specialist such as a gynecologist

As much as women are too scrupulous about their hygiene prior to an appointment, excessive thoroughness may adversely affect the examination and smear test results.

This is because during the exam the doctor pays attention to the nature, color, odor and amount of vaginal discharge among other things. Therefore changes in parameters may indicate chances of having a disease.

However, this does not mean that you give up personal hygiene at all.

So, prior to an appointment, it is recommended that you wash your vagina with warm water but without using antibacterial soap since such products also affect the vaginal pH and can distort the results.

He has been vocal and commanding, with him at some point insinuating that Deputy President William Ruto’s name will not be on the ballot come 2022. But is it guaranteed that he commands everyone? Well, Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) secretary general Francis Atwoli is now crying foul over President Uhuru Kenyatta’s aides and security chiefs for ignoring his calls.

Speaking to the press in his offices in Nairobi, the Central Organisation of Trade Union boss said unlike Francis Muthaura and other aides of former President Mwai Kibaki, Uhuru’s aides are rude.

He accused them of colluding with cartels to lie to the President over the Portland Cement land saga.

“They don’t receive my calls. If [Interior CS Fred] Matiang’i does not receive my call, how can he receive a call from a common mwananchi?” Atwoli asked.

The Cotu chief criticised Uhuru’s administration and urged him not to take the advice of his aides on anything concerning the land.

Atwoli said he is a trustee of NSSF which has 28 per cent of shares in the 4,700 acres of Portland.

“I and millions of other Kenyans are part of the land. We have shares there and we cannot allow cartels to lie to the President and steal land from Kenyans. No one has said that Portland has free land to give to the state,” he said.

He warned President Kenyatta to be keen if he wanted to achieve his agenda.

Atwoli urged the state to follow the right channel if it wanted to take the land, failure to which the matter will be taken to court.

“I want President Uhuru to get this right from us. There is no free land from Portland. If anyone needs this land let him follow the right procedure.”

The Cotu chief added that he was ready to die if cartels need to eliminate him to achieve “their vision of stealing from Kenyans” but said that justice will prevail even after his death.

A Nairobi court on has issued orders stopping the cremation of fallen Kibra MP Ken Okoth until the case filed by Ann Muthoni, Ken Okoth’s ‘second wife’ in court is heard.

The court also stopped burial until the case is heard and determined.

Ann Thumbi sued on behalf of her son, whom she says is Okoth’s.

Through lawyer Elkana Mogaka Thumbi, Muthoni sued Okoth’s mum Angeline Okoth and wife Monica Okoth along with Lee funeral home.

“The mother and wife have deliberately and unfortunately excluded me from the funeral and burial arrangements of Okoth,” the petition reads.

Muthoni said she only learnt of the arrangements from the media.

According to Muthoni, the family has unilaterally decided to have the body cremated “among other reasons to primarily destroy any evidence of her son’s lineage to Okoth”.

The order stopping the burial and cremation was issued by Senior Principal Magistrate GA Mmasi.

The case will be heard on August 9.
