Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has blamed National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula for the mishap that saw Azimio MPs skip Parliament on Wednesday evening during the voting of the proposed Finance Bill, 2023.

The lawmaker in a video posted on his official social media handles says the original plan from the Parliamentary leadership was for the voting process to take place next week after the third reading, only for speaker Wetang’ula to change tune moments after a section of Azimio MPs had left.

The controversial lawmaker read malice in the situation, pointing out that several MPs from the Azimio la Umoja coalition missed out on the voting process because of the initial directive.

Babu Owino said he missed the voting since he had arranged to meet his lawyer to prepare for his defence hearing at Milimani Law Courts slated for Thursday, June 15, following Wetang’ula’s earlier communication.

He says he had already consulted with Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi whom he disclosed that he had to prepare for his court case.

“I was not present today (Wednesday) in Parliament because my case has been scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday) in court for defense hearing and I was with my lawyer,” he said.

Out of 257 MPs present at the August House, 176 voted for the bill while 81 legislators voted against it during the second reading. The Bill now moves to the Third and final reading where legislators get a chance to amend certain clauses within the Bill.

The Finance Bill, 2023, was tabled in Parliament on Tuesday, June 13, by the National Assembly’s Finance and National Planning Committee.

The committee, chaired by Molo MP Kuria Kimani, advocated for certain amendments in the Bill to cater to the concerns raised by the public.

This involved reduction of the Housing Fund tax from three percent to 1.5 percent. Further, the proposed digital tax was revised to five percent from the initial 16 percent.

Prof Simon Gicharu

Thousands of squatters in Naivasha, Kenya who were evicted from a land that they claim was allocated to them by the former government of President Daniel Moi (deceased) have written to Kenya Commission for Human Rights seeking their intervention after Simon Gicharu , the founder and chairman of Mount Kenya University reportedly bought it through rogue land officials and influential politicians who served in the government of retired president Kenyatta.

In a letter dated 9th June 2023, directed to Kenya Commission of Human Rights, the 3,000 squatters notes that if the situation is not contained , they remain vulnerable and their leaders who have been fighting Mr Gicharu’s atrocity may remain in jail after they were arrested by police while protesting about the latter but they could not afford a cash bail or bond of Sh 200,000 and are now rotting in prison.

‘’We are over 3,000 squatters living in Naivasha,Nakuru county who have lived in 16,000 acres that was allocated to us by former president Daniel Moi given our vulnerable situations. The squatters are drawn from Kenya,Uganda and Tanzania.Few months ago, Simon Gicharu who owns Mount Kenya University with the help of another tycoon Benjamin Kipkulei acting for Uhuru era politicians and rogue police officers used police and arrested some of our members,’’ reads part of the letter

‘’They are still in remand since they could not afford to pay a cash bail or bond that was being asked by the court of Sh 200,000.We kindly ask for your intervention because no one is listening to us and the media has been bribed not to air our grievances. We have been to the Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika office and county commissioner’s office but they seem to be compromised too.We have documents to show that this land is ours,’’ reads the letter further that is copied to the office of the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Last month, the squatters had promised to match to Mount Kenya University campus in Nakuru to show their disappointment with Simon Gicharu for grabbing their land but they claim some leaders were bought off.

Locals who spoke to this publication said they have lived there for decades and in the year 2019,the government set up a local school for 3,000 squatters and promised them part of the land will be subdivided to them since they had no where to go.

Last month , Mr Gicharu who locals says landed last week with the chopper to inspect the eviction and subsequent uprooting of the crops where the houses were burnt.

‘’We have nowhere to go, Simon Gicharu who owns Mount Kenya university claims he bought this land from the government and now wants us out. He is using the police to defeat justice, the media has been compromised, they come to interview us and later get money from Gicharu and never air our grievances,’’ Mary Mwathi, 78, says in a video seen by this publication when the group camped at the office of Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika and Regional commissioner seeking an audience with them over the matter.

Most farmers claim the specific area they have called home is called Ndabibi and Kosovo.

Mr Gicharu has already funded the construction of a police post in the contested land as an effort to deter the squatters from resettling in.

The new development comes just days after Kikuyu Member of parliament Kimani Ichungwah and majority leader in the National assembly questioned how Mount Kenya university has been the only private university in Kenya that has been receiving the highest number of government sponsored students at the expense of other private and public universities.

The outspoken legislator noted that Simon Gicharu who owns the university behaves like a cartel to get higher student placement funded by taxpayers in exchange for bribes.

These advances in temperature control keep the device cool, allowing users to charge and play games simultaneously.

The series also includes Intelligent Power E-IQ further advancing the charging experience with AI algorithms and security measures that protect users from overcharging.

The Perfect Companion for Mobile Entertainment

The NOTE 30 Series portfolio of devices features a 120Hz refresh rate display that benefits from Infinix’s Smart Refresh and Magellan Engine.

These features enable the device to adjust its refresh rate based on the user’s scenario, providing a smoother experience while consuming less power. Whether gaming or watching videos, the NOTE 30 Series’ display enriches the viewing experience.

Moreover, all models include an eye-care mode with TUV Rheinland Certification, which protects users’ eyes during extended screen time.

The ultra-thin bezels and stereo dual speakers, which are sound by JBL and certified by Hi-Res, make the NOTE 30 Series an industry standout for its audio capabilities.

Next-level Performance

Focusing on performance, the NOTE 30 Series is fully equipped with powerful internals specifically designed to empower the user to get more out of their day.

The NOTE 30 Pro and NOTE 30 4G use powerful MediaTek Helio G99 processors, with a 6nm process for energy efficiency and high performance. Meanwhile, the NOTE 30 5G features a MediaTek Dimensity 6080 6nm 5G processor and dual 5G SIM support, providing users with lightning-fast 5G speeds.

The NOTE 30 Series is proud to introduce its latest innovation: self-developed Ultra Power Signal (UPS) technology.

Designed specifically for weak signal environments, this groundbreaking technology is optimized for weak signal user scenarios, including basements, elevators, suburban areas, and landscape handheld.

With a new antenna design and proprietary algorithms, UPS technology greatly improves signal performance in signal jitter, signal dense, and signal weak conditions.

It can intelligently switch antennas, accelerate the network, and reduce the lag rate when using low-latency applications such as gaming, downloading content, and watching videos.

The NOTE 30 Series has achieved a remarkable up to 40% increase in cellular signal strength and a 100% increase in WiFi signal strength in landscape mode, ensuring a seamless and uninterrupted entertainment experience.

David Wanjohi is a name that has become synonymous with fraud, deception, and betrayal in Nyeri and the surrounding areas. The man who used to be a pastor has since turned his back on his religious beliefs and resorted to conning people out of their hard-earned cash.

Wanjohi’s downward spiral started when he began to crave wealth and material possessions. He believed that he could not achieve this through legitimate means, so he decided to take matters into his own hands. He established a company called Biz Guide Investments Limited, which he used as a special purpose vehicle to defraud unsuspecting Kenyans.

One of his victims, Alex, had known Wanjohi for over 20 years and had no reason to doubt his intentions when he asked for a loan of one million Kenya shillings. As a friend and a pastor, Alex believed that Wanjohi would use the money for a legitimate business venture. However, Wanjohi disappeared without a trace after receiving the money, and his phone was turned off. Alex tried to contact the Nyeri church where Wanjohi used to be a pastor, but it was closed indefinitely.

Other sources close to Wanjohi have also confirmed that he has swindled many of his friends and associates by borrowing money and issuing fraudulent securities as collateral. He has also been seen hiding in Nanyuki after being arrested in Nyeri for failing to pay for lodging. Wanjohi even went as far as borrowing a vehicle from a friend and was caught trying to cross the border with a ready client in Uganda.

It’s clear that David Wanjohi has no regard for his friends, associates, or even his own religious beliefs. He has chosen a path of deception, greed, and betrayal, which has left many people devastated and struggling to recover their losses. His actions have not only harmed individuals, but they have also tarnished the reputation of genuine pastors who genuinely serve their congregations.

Testimonials

“I’ve never felt more betrayed or violated in my life.” David Wanjohi was someone I trusted as a pastor and a friend, but he used that trust to cheat me of a large sum of money. It’s been a harrowing experience, and I pray that justice finds him soon. I would encourage anyone who knows him to avoid him.” – Mary K., a victim of Wanjohi’s deception.

“I knew David Wanjohi for many years and considered him to be a man of integrity and honesty.” I had no reason to suspect him when he approached me with a business proposal, so I invested heavily in his company. It wasn’t until long later that I realized the whole thing was a hoax and that he had used my money for his own gain. It was a difficult lesson to learn, but I’m happy for the experience since it taught me to be more cautious in my interactions with others.” – John M., yet another victim of Wanjohi’s deception.

It is crucial to highlight that the names mentioned in this article, such as Mary K. and John M., are pseudonyms and not the real identities of the people whose lives have been impacted by David Wanjohi’s acts. These names were used to shield their identities for their own safety and to avoid any potential legal complications that could result from using their real names. It is critical to respect these people’s privacy and avoid seeking to identify them in any way.

Conclusion

It’s crucial that the public be warned against dealing with Wanjohi and his company, Biz Guide Investments Limited. If anyone has any information about Wanjohi’s whereabouts, they should contact the police or the email provided in this article: fraudreport254@gmail.com to prevent him from conning anyone else.

Gaucho

Bunge la Wananchi President Calvin Okoth alias Gaucho has allegedly been arrested.

According to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) communications director Philip Etale, Gaucho was arrested at Central Police Station when he went there on Tuesday May, 23, 2023.

Etale through his official social media handles said Gaucho was arrested by police officers from Nairobi Area (County Headquarters).

He had allegedly gone to Central Police Station to make an inquiry about his mobile phone that was confiscated some time back when he had been arrested.

Gaucho was given a chance to address Jubilee National Delegates Conference on Monday and used demeaning remarks against Sabina Chege and other leaders allied to President William Ruto.

Could this be the reason behind his alleged arrested?

Just a day after former president Uhuru Kenyatta held the Jubilee National Delegates Convention (NDC) at the Ngong Racecourse, the registrar of political parties Ann Nderitu has approved his ouster.

Nderitu addressed her directive dated May 19, 2023 to Joshua Kutuny, Deputy Secretary General of the Kanini Kega faction.

She also confirmed the approval of David Murathe and Jeremiah Kioni as Vice Chairman and Secretary General respectively.

Uhuru’s faction during the NDC expelled a dozen officials in an attempt to reconstitute a National Executive Committee (NEC) dominated by President William Ruto loyalists.

The Kenyatta-backed camp axed Kanini Kega, the Acting Secretary General according to changes ratified by a Ruto-backed NEC.

Monday’s meeting also removed Sabina Chege whom the Kega-led group named as Acting Party Leader replacing Kenyatta in changes upheld by the Political Parties Tribunal.

In its judgment delivered on April 16, the tribunal said that the notice for the National Executive Committee meeting issued on February 2 and the subsequent NEC meeting on February 10 which imposed Kega was conducted in line with the party Constitution.

Also removed alongside Kega who served as the Director of Election prior to the leadership coup are former Cheragany MP Joshua Kutunny (Deputy Secretary General) and Former Taveta MP Naomi Shaban (Deputy Party Leader, Outreach).

Others are Jimi Angwenyi (Deputy Party Leader), Kinoti Gatobu (Deputy Party Leader, Operations), Peter Mositet (Deputy Party Leader, Programmes), Nelson Dzuya (National Chairman)  and Kitui Woman Representative Racheal Nyamai (Deputy Director of Elections).

Kenyatta’s camp led by besieged Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni announced Chege’s replacement as House Deputy Minority Whip with Embakasi West David Mwenje.

It named new officials who include Maoka Maore  (Deputy Party Leader, Operations), Saitoti Torome (Chairman), Pauline Njoroge (Deputy Organizing Secretary), Jamleck Kamau (National Director of Elections) and Maison Leshoomo (National Women League Chairperson).

Jubilee Party nominated MP and the embattled National Assembly deputy minority whip Sabina Chege on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 attended Kenya Kwanza’s Parliamentary Group meeting that was held at State House, Nairobi.

A Jubilee Party rebel faction led by EALA MP Kanini Kega had earlier on named Sabina Chege as party leader, ousting Former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

However, a bid to re-establish party discipline and strengthen its ranks, the Jubilee Party on Monday expelled several party rebels, including Sabina Chege, Kanini Kega and Nelson Dzuya.

The Jubilee NDC held at Ngong Race Course gave the former President an opportunity to stamp his authority in the party amid an onslaught by Ms Chege and a faction led by Mr Kega.

The duo teamed up with a section of Jubilee-elected legislators to kick Uhuru off party leadership alongside Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, Vice chairman David Murathe and National Treasurer Kagwe Gichohi.

Kega would later issue a statement saying that the NDC convened by Uhuru was not recognized by the party and that the changes made would not have any impact.

However, Sabina Chege attended the Kenya Kwanza PG that was hosted by President William Ruto at State House on Tuesday.

The former Murang’a Woman Representative had over the weekend told President Ruto that they are orphans in Jubilee.

Speaking during an interdenominational church service at Isiolo Boys High School on Sunday, May 21, 2023, Ms Chege said the former President had neglected them.

At the same time, Chege pleaded with President Ruto, a former member of the Jubilee party, to accommodate Jubilee leaders when they knock on his door.

Eldas MP Adan Keynan who was elected on a Jubilee ticket was also among the rebel members that attended the Kenya Kwanza PG.

Kanini Kega and Kamkunji MP Yusuf Hassan, a Jubilee MP, also attended the State House meeting.

Her attendance has elicited mixed reactions on the internet considering the fact that she has been fighting for her position as the Azimio deputy minority whip.

Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party had resolved to kick her out of the position, but she survived after the National Assmbly speaker Moses Wetangula announced that she would retain her position until such a time when Azimio will convene a proper meeting and communicate her dismissal.

Below are some of the reactions from Kenyans on Twitter after Sabina Chege was spotted at State House during the Kenya Kwanza PG.

President William Ruto forced Azimio leader Raila Odinga to arrive late at the burial of the late Mukami Kimathi in Njambini, Nyandarua County over the weekend, ODM communications director Philip Etale has revealed.

Etale who was responding to attacks launched against the former Prime Minister on social media for going against the protocol to arrive at a function when everyone including the head of state has already settled down said it was a situation caused by President Ruto that forced Raila to arrive late.

According to Etale, Raila’s chopper that was supposed to fly him to Nyandarua was ready for takeoff from Wilson Airport by 9:45am.

However, a communication was made to the pilot that Harambee One that was flying President Ruto to the same venue was taking off and that he had to wait.

The ODM communication boss was responding to President Ruto’s chairperson of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors (CEA) David Ndii who had termed Raila’s action as juvenile.

Ndii had earlier on quoted lawyer Miguna Miguna’s remark which had termed Raila’s arrival as childish, noting that etiquette requires Raila to arrive at public functions on time.

“ETIQUETTE requires conman @RailaOdinga to arrive at public functions on time. Routinely arriving late after everyone has taken their seats is a childish and primitive trick to be noticed,” Miguna Miguna posted.

Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo has taken to his official social media accounts to allege that there is a plan to assassinate him.

The senior counsel through his Twitter account Wednesday morning claimed that police officers operating from Kabete Police Station have been tasked to eliminate him.

According to the lawmaker who is part of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition party team that is supposed to engage in bipartisan talks with the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition team, the alleged operatives are using a blue Subaru.

The alleged Subaru bears KBZ 373X as Registration details but the same, Otiende says, does not reflect at the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

He went ahead to allege that his security has been withdrawn for the same purpose, but affirmed that he was not afraid.

“So They’ve Tasked Shadowy Operatives In M/V KBZ 373 X Blue Subaru To Eliminate Me! A Vehicle On The Road But No Records At NTSA, But Operates From Kabete Police Station! And They Withdraw My Security For The Purpose! Well, I’m Not Afraid. History Is Replete With Martyrs,” he tweeted.

On Tuesday, May 2, 2023, the opposition leaders among them the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party leader Raila Odinga had their security withdrawn.

This is after the opposition’s planned protests in Nairobi flopped, with Raila and his team accusing the President William Ruto-led government of hiring goons to destroy property and blame it on the opposition.

Addressing the media from the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation offices in Upper Hill, Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua fingered Trade CS Moses Kuria and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for the chaos witnessed.

A public service vehicle was torched along Ngong Road by unknown people. Another truck was torched along the Southern bypass with goons disguising as protesters.

Trouble is brewing at Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) as disappointed staff bitterly complain about corruption, nepotism and mismanagement by acting Director General Prof Elija Songok.

According to sources within the institution, morale is at historic low and important research work has ground to halt due to graft.

To make matters worse, there has been no substantive DG or CEO at Kemri for three years since Prof Yeri Kombe retired. Prof Sam Kariuki who was in acting capacity until March 2023 took a sabbatical leave due to frustrations.

He handed over to Prof Elija Songok who was imposed by the Principal Secretary for Health Engineer Peter Tum. Songok had been serving as the director of research.

Songok was elevated to the position in dubious circumstances reeking of nepotism. Tum, PS for health is a village mate (they are actually next door neighbors) to Songok. They have a relationship going back decades and are close family friends.

When Tum’s children were studying in Canada, it’s Songok who hosted them in his house.

Curiously, Songok is earning double salary as the acting DG Kemri and also as a staffer at University of Manitoba in Canada. He is actually a Canadian citizen is its curious how a dual citizen can be appointed to head such an important Kenyan institution.

The biggest case of corruption involves a product developbed by Kemri known as Ujiplus.

While serving as the director of research, Songok led the team of researchers that came up with Ujiplus, a herbal flour to be used in fighting neglected tropical diseases.

Ujiplus is a fortified herbal formulation designed to be taken as a school meal snack for both nutrition and deworming.

Scientists at Kemri developed the integrated deworming and nutritious porridge but in a move that stinks of corruption, Songok grabbed the product and is privately selling it.

Usually when Kemri comes up with a product like this, it is sent to the commercial department which sells it to generate revenue for the research institution.

In a move that should interest EACC, Songok founded a company known as Terik Foods and Nutraceuticals Limited which now produces and sells Ujiplus yet the product was developed by Kemri.

Interestingly, Terik is the name of the sub clan in Nandi community where he hails from.

To make matters worse he has roped in his 2 sons into this corrupt scheme. The boys operate a shop just next to Kemri headquarters in Nairobi where they sell the Ujiplus. The sons also live in his official Kemri residence.

When Tum served as the CEO of KMTC, he had a personal assistant known as Barnabas Kimatoi. The he has since seconded the same guy to serve as Songok’s PA.

There are also irregular appointments and promotions happening under Songok’s watch at Kemri.

He has promoted his cronies and partners in dubious dealings to influential and lucrative positions.

Songok has removed Dr Kizito Lubano as director of research and development and replaced him with a Dr Nelly Mugo with who Songok has business interests with.

Dr Mugo runs an NGO known as Partners in Health Research and Development (PHRD) which is funded by Kemri. She runs the NGO with a Dr David Bukusu whose spouse Prof Elizabeth Bukusu also work at Kemri.

Another case of conflict of interest involves Dr Onono Maricianah who runs an NGO known as Kargeno Group. Kargeno group focuses on sexual reproductrive adolescent and child health.

Songok has appointed Dr Onono to be director of scientific programs and partnerships while still running the NGO.

In another case of malpractice at Kemri, the director, legal, Martin Machira whose contract is lapsing in August 2023 is irregularly pushing the HR committee of Kemri board to renew his contract.

Machira has blatantly continued to engage external lawyers are exorbitant cost to the institute against government directive when he should be the one going to court to represent the institution.

Another issue if the irregular hiring of the internal auditor. When James Mwangi was serving as internal auditor, he exposed a lot of rot in the finance department including the cash purchases totaling Shs 52 million which were highlighted in Auditor General Report 2020/21.

So the finance director Antony Wachira hatched a plot to get Mwangi out of the way. Wachira colluded with an intern who he had an affair with to falsely accuse Mwangi with attempted rape. The intern entered Mwangi’s office at noon and started screaming that Mwangi wanted to rape her.

When Mwangi was suspended over the issue, Wachira arranged for his own cousin Patrick Gitau to be seconded from treasury as the acting internal auditor.

When Wachira was made the acting director of Corporate Services, he used the position to confirm Gitau as the internal auditor even before Mwangi’s case was heard and determined.

Mwangi was eventually cleared by court and reinstated to his job but his office had been irregularly filled. Now Kemri has 2 internal auditors.

Another problem causing low morale within Kemri is the failure by Songok to pay some 2.27 billion shillings owed to unionisable staff as extraneous allowance.

Pastor Ezekiel Odero of the New Life Prayer Centre and church will face criminal charges related to mass killing of his followers, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has said.

The televangelist was Thursday morning arrested and taken to Mombasa for further questioning after spending a better part of Wednesday with Kilifi DCI officers.

He was taken to the Coast Police Headquarters.

CS Kindiki has confirmed that church has been closed down and over 100 people who were holed up at the premises have been evacuated and will be required to record statements.

“It is notified for information of the general public that today Thursday, 27th April 2023, Mr Ezekiel Ombok Odero the Head of New Life Prayer Centre/Church at Mavueni within Malindi Sub-County of Kilifi County has been arrested and is being processed to face criminal charges related to mass killing of his followers. The said Church has been shut down. The over 100 people who were holed up at the premises have been evacuated and will be required to record statements,” reads Kindiki’s tweet.

The televangelist is accused of being an accomplice of Pastor Paul Mackenzie.

Briefing the media on Thursday, April 27, Coast Regional Commissioner Rhodah Onyancha said various deaths have been reported on his premises and some recorded in morgues that may be linked to him.

The pastor denied the claims of occultism at his church before Kilifi detectives on Wednesday.

Police aware of the developments said the move to summon him on Wednesday was prompted by the ongoing exhumation of bodies from a farm in Shakahola Forest.

The farm is linked to pastor Paul Mackenzie of Good News International Church.

Kilifi County DCI detectives have arrested controversial televangelist Pastor Ezekiel Odero of New Life Prayer Centre and Church.

Pastor Ezekiel was arrested on Thursday morning over his alleged indoctrination of the public. His church has also been closed down.

On Wednesday, the DCI sleuths grilled the televangelist over his relation to the controversial pastor Paul Mackenzie of Good News International church who is at the centre of the Shakahola massacre.

He denied the claims before Kilifi detectives who told him they will summon him if and when needed.

Pastor Ezekiel also recorded a statement with Kilifi DCI on Tuesday, April 25 over his doctrine and church operations.

He operates the New Life Church based in Malindi, Kilifi County.

It is alleged that a morgue located near Pastor Ezekiel’s church has been collecting dead bodies from the church.

A source who spoke to one of the leading local dailies revealed that the DCI officers also visited Milele Funeral Home and grilled the CEO Mr. Johnson Amani Kea and his staff on the number of dead bodies the morgue collected from Pastor Ezekiel’s church.

Last week, reports emerged that the morgue had filed a complaint with the police against Pastor Ezekiel on claims that he had killed its business by performing rituals and driving away customers on allegations that the funeral home had been built at a blackspot with an aim of getting more people killed in accidents for the business to boom.

However, the funeral home’s CEO has denied the allegations, noting that they have not filed any complain with the police.

“We did not file a complaint. The police are in the process of recording statements on how many bodies we have handled so far from pastor Ezekiel’s church,” Mr Amani was quoted by the local daily.

On Tuesday, April 25, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki confirmed that police officers were investigating other flamboyant preachers whose teachings appeared contrary to what the Law advocates for.

Investigations into the life and doctrines of Pastor Ezekiel follows the Shakahola massacre, in which over 90 bodies were exhumed and over 30 people were rescued while starving themselves to death.

Controversial Pastor, Paul Mackenzie was arrested, with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji recommending the following charges; terrorism, genocide, radicalisation and aiding individuals to kill themselves.

So far some 95 bodies have been recovered from graves in the forest, officials said.

Police were Wednesday granted orders to search and seize all property belonging to Mackenzie and eight other suspects.
