The deputy president William Ruto on Saturday took his campaign to Okoth Obados backyard. Residents thronged the area to witness the second in command and the politicians who accompanied him. While addressing a crowd on the roadside, he saw a woman identified as Mackline Otieno carrying an umbrella and he asked her if she could pass it to him.

Mackline quickly gave it to Ruto who was addressing the crowd on top of his vehicle. He in turn gave shillings 20,000 to the woman. In another incident, a man walking in crutches asked to be allowed to have a word with the deputy president. He got his surprise of the day when he was also given Ksh 20,0000.

Ruto also donated Ksh 2 million to boda boda saccos and small scale traders in the area. While addressing the residents, he blamed president Uhuru Kenyatta for frustrating his presidential bid, adding that his only hope now lies with ordinary Kenyans.

He criticized the government for failing to secure the economic welfare of Kenyans. He said that the work of the government is to make policies that ensure the youths are employed, or they can run their own business. Ruto pledged to allocate 120 million to support small scale traders across the country.

Public Service Vehicles in Nairobi are yet to be blocked from picking and dropping passengers in the city’s petrol stations. This is if a motion presented before the county assembly of Nairobi sponsored by Umoja One MCA Mugambi, goes through.

The MCA wants the executive and the Nairobi Metropolitan Service to issue a public notice prohibiting all PSVs from terminating at petrol stations to either pick or drop passengers. The MCA argued that the lives of Kenyans are being put at risk. Noting that petrol stations are places where highly flammable substances are sold. They are dangerous zones where deaths can easily occur in case of an explosion. Mugambi added that leaders have the task of saving lives. “There are better places where PSVs can do their business away from danger,” he said.

He said that most PSVs have colluded with corrupt county officials to set up such stations oblivious of the danger they pose. Sources reveal that most petrol stations in Nairobi offer parking and other services to matatus. The county government issued a similar directive in 2019 but it failed to take effect. The county is currently struggling with space as the Green park terminus which would provide an alternative is still closed.

Ruto with Waiguru

Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua has warned Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru over her decision to ditch President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party for Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

According to Gachagua, UDA is the party that has been chosen by Mt. Kenya people.

The embattled lawmaker now warns that should Waiguru continue ignoring Kirinyaga residents’ party of choice, she risks facing the wrath of the people which he says is more ruthless and long term than State persecution.

Gachagua went ahead to warn that Waiguru will lose her gubernatorial seat in 2022 should she fail to honour residents’ call for her to join UDA.

The warning comes just days after the Krinyaga county chief hinted at decamping the Uhuru camp for the DP Ruto’s hustler nation.

“We applaud Governor Waiguru for the courage, I know they will pester her here and there. But it is better for her to be pestered by police than be punished by citizens. You know the citizens’ punishment is legal it has no appeal once they are done with you it is five years, but this thing of being apprehended on Monday, Friday is a simple thing,” Rigathi told Waiguru.

The Mathira MP who once served as President Uhuru Kenyatta’s personal assistance further extended the welcoming arm to other Jubilee members stating that UDA’s window is wide open for them.

“UDA is a very popular party here and we want to say that all those who are coming are welcome, our party is very democratic, very wide and we will accommodate everybody,” he remarked.

Waiguru’s hint at joining UDA has ignited political rivalry in the region. Kirinyaga County Woman Representative Purity Ngirici is among the closest allies of Ruto who are seeking to battle it out with Waiguru.

Ngirici has already made her bid and has been on several campaign trails to popularise herself to the Kirinyaga electorates.

On her part, Ngirici has maintained that she is ready to face Waiguru in a fair UDA nomination if she makes real her decision to ditch the Jubilee party.

Apart from Ngirici, NARC-Kenya party leader Martha Karua is also in the race to try and unseat Waiguru. Karua has also made it bold that she will be taking her second stab at the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat after losing in the 2017  General election even after staging several court cases.

Waiguru had earlier admitted that she would lose the Kirinyaga seat if she risked defending it on a Jubilee party ticket.

Sugar factories in Kenya have for a long time struggled to revive, with mismanagement and lack of funds being pointed out as the main hurdle.

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has opened up on why these factories have been struggling all along.

The county chief who spoke spoke on Thursday at Bukura Agricultural Training Collage while meeting sugarcane farmers said efforts to revive the factories are hindered by cartels with selfish interests.

“They want to ensure the factories don’t revive. They want the industry dead so that they can continue smuggling cheap imports into the country,” he said.

He added that the cartels have been using their illegally acquired money to ensure revival efforts don’t succeed.

He revealed that these cartels are working with elected leaders to further their selfish interests at the expense of the industry and farmers.

Oparanya accused some local leaders of working with cartels to kill the local sugar sector.

He said that politics have contributed to the collapse of Mumias Sugar Factory and the government currently has no say in the management of the company after it was put under receivership.

He has urged members of the public to avoid electing leaders who have selfish interests.

Oparanya served as a co-chairman to a task force created by Uhuru Kenyatta to investigate what was ailing the sector and suggest solutions.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a woman who was allegedly raped by her area chief in Kericho.

According to DCI boss George Kinoti, the woman only identified as Mercy is believed to have falsely accused her area chief of forcing himself on her, after her husband discovered that the two have been having a clandestine sexual affair since August.

The chief was on Wednesday on spotlight after allegations that he was caught with someone’s wife. Such an embarrassment went throughout the Cheptagulgei village in Londiani.

In a serious case lodged at Londiani police station on Tuesday afternoon, the woman from Kimasian location who was accompanied by her husband alleged that the area chief had stormed her homestead earlier in the day and ordered her out of the house.

“She further alleged that when she obliged, the chief then forced her into a nearby maize plantation where he raped her repeatedly. Detectives launched immediate investigations into the serious allegations against the local administrator who had since been detained,” said Kinoti.

DCI further reveals that when she accepted, the chief allegedly forced her in a nearby maize plantation and raped her.

Investigations revealed that the chief and Mercy have been in a relationship.

One message found on her phone revealed said, “Let’s meet hapo mahindi yenu,” the chief has also been sending her some money as records displayed she had received Ksh 327 followed by a message, “Nimekuwekea kitu tupatane I give you.”

The husband stumbled upon text messages and discovered both have been going for their steamy session in a nearby maize plantation.

To revenge, she came up with the falsified claims against the local administrator.

It took the DCI’s intervention to save the chief’s name. They have warned the public against making such false allegations for revenge.

Over the past few days, the whole country was in shock after a doctor based in Nakuru allegedly killed his two children. Reports indicate that Dr. Gakara injected a substance believed to be insulin on his children aged five and and three years old.

According to various sources, Dr. Gakara committed the beastly act after a disagreement with his wife who had made arrangements to go further her studies abroad. His sister however denied the allegations. While speaking to the press, she said that his brother is a cool person who would do anything to protect his children. The claims that he disagreed with wife on going abroad for studies is false because he knew about the plans and supported it by paying for her school fees, said Dr. Gakara’s sister.

The doctor was declared dead a few days after fighting for his life in the ICU. A government pathologist by the name Titus Ngulungu on Friday released the results of the post-mortem done on Gakara’s body. The results showed that Dr. Gakara died as a result of ingesting a foreign substance. He stated that there were injection marks on his arm but they are not sure if the substance was injected by the deceased or by another doctor.

Dr. Ngulungu has urged his family to go on with his burial as they have taken samples of his tissues and organs to establish if he might have been killed. The other results will be out but not sure when. The post-mortem done on the two minors could not establish what exactly killed them and detectives took their samples for further investigations. The two children and their father will be buried in their Mbaruuk home in Gilgil sub-county on Tuesday.

In June this year, a man accused of shooting Nairobi hotelier William Osewe pleaded to be acquitted after he was prosecuted for attempting to kill the businessman.

In his argument, the accused, Tom Mboya said he was acting in self defense after the victim accosted him several times with allegation that he was having an affair with his wife.

The senior Counsel Tom Ojienda argued citing several cases where Mboya was threatened with possibility of elimination.

On Thursday, the accused requested the court to be given more time to obtain evidence before a verdict is made.

Tom Mboya was supposed to be sentenced on Thursday but the lawyer made the surprising application. The defense team argued that allowing the suspect more time to adduce evidence would shed more light on the case and offer a fair judgement to both parties.

The defense team however declined saying the accused wants to buy time after knowing things were not going well for him.

In his defense, Mboya said his actions were only self defense since Osewe is always armed. However, the defense team led by Anderson Gikunda urged the court to find him guilty and sentence him, arguing that it is by chance Osewe is alive.

Tom Mboya said that Osewe has huge influence and he was afraid when he was followed by the complainant and cocked his hand twice but did not shoot.

He further stated that he shot the complainant’s hand to disarm him. “He once told me he would chop off my manhood if I don’t stop sleeping with his wife,” said Mboya.

The ruling on whether to allow his plea will be made on September 27th.

Amidst the debate on the Competency Based Curriculum, the Teachers Service Commission came up with a new directive that all teachers should have fresh training every five years to refresh their certificates, lest they’re deregistered by the commission.

Photo: Courtesy

The commission’s secretary Nancy Macharia made the announcement that all teachers under TSC payroll should take the Teachers Professional Development program (TPD), which is accredited to be taken in any of these institutions; Kenyatta University, Riara University, Mt. Kenya University and Kenya Institute of Education Management.

Recently, Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi filed a petition challenging CBC program. He told parents and teachers that he had hearkened to their call arguing that the education system in Kenya should not be expensive, inefficient and ineffective.

After this, education CS Prof. Magoha swore to fight with them in court and ensured them he would win. Havi on Friday morning told teachers to suit themselves this time as they are called upon for the compulsory training.

It seems a section of teachers requested him to help them oppose the recent requirement for teachers by TSC. He wrote on his Facebook account,”Teachers, you left Wilson Sossion to be fought to exhaustion by the state. KNUT withdrew all the cases against the state when you replaced Sossion with a Secretary of ‘your preferred choice.’ Please, stop calling me to challenge the directive by TSC that you be trained afresh.”

Former Kenya Union of Teachers Secretary General Wilson Sossion called it quits after years of squabbles in the union. He faced a lot of resistance and attempts to be ousted out of office by KNUT members and despite putting on ha gard skin and telling them he would not resign, he gave it up on June 2020. Sossion then blamed the government for orchestrating his removal in a bid to stop him from fighting for the rights of teachers and making the union better.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has issued a statement on the claims that a file in the ongoing case on Arror and Kimwarer dam scandals had gone missing.

DPP Haji on Thursday September 23, 2021 while addressing the allegations dismissed them as misleading.

A local newspaper had early this week reported that the file in the case had been misplaced but Haji’s office has clarified that the it was not in any way related to the case on the two dams.

“The only missing file in the case relates to an application filed in the High Court by CMC Di Ravenna companies and their directors,” the statement from the office of the DPP read in part.

The statement signed by Senior Assistant DPP, Alexander Muteti, added that the office had already responded to the matter. He further confirmed that the missing file, which was indeed a court file, had since been recovered.

The DPP affirmed that it was ready and prepared to prosecute the case involving the two multibillion dams in court.

“We are ready to prosecute at the earliest opportunity as and when the date is set for hearing,” the statement added.

Muteti stated that the file was now in custody of the court’s registry and that the article published by the paper misrepresented facts and was calculated to mislead the public.

The ODPP revealed that it would formally raise the matter with the Office of the Chief Justice to ensure that the accurate position is clarified beyond peradventure.

Muteti further explained that the move to notify the CJ’s office is to avoid unnecessary speculation, noting that it was not the first time the said file had gone missing, occasioning delays in the matter.

The case stalled on Monday after it emerged that the file with documents challenging the prosecution of Italian firm CMC Di Ravenna boss could not be traced.

The Italian companies that were dragged into the Ksh63 billion Arror and Kimwarer dams scandals have sued Kenya in the International Court of Arbitration.

Thugs who were aboard a tuk tuk on Monday night held a police boss at gunpoint in Mombasa town and robbed him of his firearm.

According to reports, Mombasa Urban Sub County Police Commander, George Bamba Kingi, was heading home in his private car when a Tuk tuk blocked him on the road.

The thugs are said to have forced officer Kingi to alight from his car, whereby one of the suspects held him at gunpoint and ordered him to surrender his firearm, a Jericho pistol.

The other two suspects stole the pistol, loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, that was holstered on his waist. The thugs then fled towards Likoni.

“A multi-agency team responded after the police boss raised alarm. The officers combed the area, but nothing has been recovered,” a police report stated.

County Regional Police Commander Manaseh Musyoka condemned the act noting that police officers were working round the clock to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.

Further, he called upon Mombasa residents to come forth with any information regarding the incident, adding that there was a hefty reward for anyone who would assist the police in recovering the gun and capturing the suspects.

“The suspects, who were all armed, then ordered him to surrender, and since he feared for his life, he cooperated with them.”

“Anyone with information that can assist us to recover the gun to share the information in confidence and there is a reward for that.”

In the recent past, thugs have been devising nifty tactics in a bid to carry out their hatched scheme and evade justice.

From staging heists in wealthy neighbourhoods to robbing police officers, perpetrators are going to extra lengths in order to follow through with their plans.

Four armed bandits on Monday September 20, 2021 raided Ewaso Police Patrol Base under Kimanjo Police Station within Laikipia North sub county in broad daylight and caught officers off guard.

Armed with AK47 rifles the bandits struck at a time when only one police officer was on duty manning the camp.

The base is adjacent to Ewaso Trading Center, which is partly at the border of Isiolo north sub county that falls under the jurisdiction of Oldonyiro Police Station.

Reports indicate that a police constable fell into the trap as the four accosted him in the report office.

The terrified officer could not reach out to call for cavalry as he was disarmed by the bandits.

“They ordered him to hand over his firearm which he had or they shoot him,” a police report filed at Kimanjo Police Station read.

The officer, after realising he had already been cornered, handed over his gun and bullets to the bandits in a move to save his life.

“The officer handed the G3 and two magazines with 40 rounds of ammunition,” the police report added.

As the four bandits were leaving the post, they broke into his house and took away his police uniform, two jungle trousers, one jungle shirt, one smoke jacket, and one green jungle hat.

Cautious not to leave a trace nor raise curiosity, the bandits never fired a single shot during the incident as they stealthy turned the house upside down in search of other valuable goods.

They, later on, crossed to the Oldonyiro side of the boundary towards the Ewaso River direction after boosting their armoury with police weapons seized during the raid at the patrol base.

A multiagency team that was alerted of the incident arrived a few hours later, regrouped and launched a manhunt for the bandits.

The GSU and regular police opted to use trained dogs to track the scent and direction of the bandits and also used a light aircraft from a neighbouring conservancy to conduct a search and track mission.
